  1. Quick question on this preamp... I have settled backline for electric bass, but I'm being asked to do some upright gigs soon, which may require amplification. I have a few powered PA speakers. CouId I use this preamp and a powered PA speaker (or is that a silly idea) Any advice appreciated. I've never amplified a DB (or played a gig with one, but that's another story).
  2. This is true. There was a lovely chap on here who had an incredible collection (Rick, I think) of mint condition vintage instruments. While I'm sure the value was incredible, I could never really get why you'd want something so pristine. My old 60s jazz bass I used to carry in a soft case on the bus, and gig all over. Nowadays it's too expensive to do all that, and it's a shame.
  3. If it hasn't been played, why the hell would someone sand the neck pocket? I saw this and was somewhat skeptical about this. I have no reason to doubt Mr Baxter, but if I were buying I'd certainly ask for an explanation as to why this had happened as I'm scratching my head a little bit. Perhaps a shim was fitted at some point? We may question his prices, but there's a lovely looking Fender Precision fretless on there which is very rare indeed, for what's a good reasonable price.
  4. These are super fragile items. I’d not go for the cheapest but the best!
  5. I bought a set of Golden Slaps to try. If I like them, then I’ll buy a new set so if anyone wants them in late March, let me know. They’ll be available then.
  6. My point about McCartney is wrong too. Especially as the Beatles considered them to be competition with Brian Wilson. These headlines and polls and ratings things are trash and exist only to generate dissent which creates clicks.
  7. That’s tragic. I’ve seen RS numerous times and I love them.
  8. Given Paul wrote half of the songs, he'd be better calling him one of the world's best popular music composers. That's sort of what Rick is saying (his example comes sitting at a piano, not with a bass around his neck) that would be more accurate. Anyway, music isn't a competition and he also wrote the Frog Chorus, which illustrates there are limits even to genius.
  9. This bass is all original, apart from changed pickups or scratch late, or tuners, or bridge. How many times do I see this? I messaged a seller and he said “it’s all original, apart from a refinish”, which would inevitably (if done properly) necessitate the removal of the pickups and wiring. Its a small thing, but language matters! Apologies for the rant, but the cat didn’t know what I was talking about.
  10. Man that’s a fugly thing. I can see it working on a aluminium bass but on a conventional one, I’m not so sure!
  11. I broke my little finger bowling last week - thankfully on my right hand!
  12. This is an lovely one to play through. Not challenging, but great!
  13. Indeed it does! I believe these are jazz profile necks. That’s why I bought this one as the neck was so lovely.
  14. Good point. I’ve got the worlds worst man flu at the moment and just had some terrible brain fog. I’ve updated the title, but there’s no attempt to deceive.
  15. Currently strung with Chromes, but I'll swap these to my Jazz bass so will come with a brand new set of Rotos.
  16. Here is my Squier Precision Mini in Dakota Red. This is new and has never been played. I bought this for my kids but they both prefer acoustic guitar (no accounting for taste) and I keep knocking it when I adjust my guitar cases so it has to go. Does £125 delivered sound reasonable? The neck will need some lemon oil, as this has been stored for 2 years. Probably have the original receipt somewhere. Reason for sale is space and gear rationalisation. (And, err, something large and expensive incoming).
  17. Here is my Squier Precision P/J special. This was my gigging back up bass and is lovely! I’ve had the pots and the jack socket all replaced and the bass was recently set-up. Its been well used and what you’d call roadwork condition. The pickups are strong and it plays amazingly well. I’ve had a guess at the value as I simply don’t know. Having invested a few quid on it, this seems fair but feel free to DM and chat! £180 collected from Bristol or handover somewhere nearby. Reason for sale is space and gear rationalisation. (And, err, something large and expensive incoming).
  18. I think there are two elements: build quality and iconic status. Are Ricks and Harleys iconic? Without a doubt. Do they suffer from dubious build quality? In my experience, yes. Did I thoroughly enjoy owning them? Yes!
