  1. Have you seen the picture of Sting with his? Looks like a beauty and given all the work done by the Martin team I’m pretty sure it’s incredibly playable too.
  2. I had a Harley (883 with some crazy pipes on it) and the carb blocked and it leaked an entire tank of fuel on my driveway. Great days (not). No Rickenbacker has ever done that to me. My best ever bike was a 2002 R1150 GS which I loved with all my heart. I guess you’d compare that to a Warwick?
  3. I love them. Don’t own one. But love them.
  4. Ben has exquisite taste in instruments, and I have 100% confidence this will be amazing. Looks like an incredible deal for someone.
  5. Agreed. We bought some incredible PA cabs on BC for very little cash.
  6. This assumes perfect market conditions, which as we know don't exist. If all dealers of one item or commodity (petrol, for example, or guitars) get together and set a baseline price that indicates to consumers that that's their true value. In this case, dealers are constantly pushing the bar for these instruments higher, which suggests to buyers (those looking for investments, one would assume) that this is their true value. My contention is that there's collusion to do this (and always has been). It just so happens that it's Wal now, but they can (and will) do this with other instruments. PRS perhaps, Status, Goodfellow – who knows. Seeing prices rising steadily suggests that they're a good investment (you won't lose money with a Wal, etc) when, again, this isn't necessarily true. My point initially, was that people are being encouraged to spend large amounts on items that aren't particularly rare because they're being manipulated to do it. These tricks are at play in all retail environments. (I'm a partner in a retail business, and none of this stuff is rocket science).
  7. Playing in a band is pretty much the only reason I now play an instrument. after the enforced isolation of covid, ain’t nothing better than playing music together and entertaining people.
  8. I’ve sold almost all the basses and guitars I own and don’t regret any of them. Currently have just four left to go. (Squier P/J, anniversary Jazz, 71 Martin D35, and a US tele). My house is tidier, wallet heavier, and domestically happier! Which reminds me, I should be advertising them soon.
  9. Ahh, I wondered what this is all about. I must admit I have no idea who Matt Garrison is.
  10. I love this video. Not one root note in an hour of practice... The guy is an insane talent, but personally, he seems to be playing bass guitar like a jazz guitar which is cool but it lacks the timbre and note definition of a jazz guitar. Hey ho.
  11. It's great to learn that world famous and insanely talented musicians have the same sort of fights and tantrums that us mere mortals do. I couldn't watch the video all the way through, to be honest, but he seems like a good guy. His books are great as well.
  12. I was in an originals band and was “encouraged” to miss one day of a holiday to do a gig that was an absolute waste of time. I understand the OPs point. I’d you’ve developed a set with transitions and arrangements with syncopation then a dep is never going to be able to drop in. So you’re worried that the band isn’t delivering its best. If you’re playing “Sex on Fire” at an estate agents’ conference it hardly matters, but if you’re playing to a fee paying crowd I’d be disappointed. Im in a band with a super-busy drummer and he’s always open and honest about what he can and can’t do and (so far) not been an issue.
  13. I’m intrigued at this thread. The aluminium bass with the crazy bridge above looks like something from the future!!!
  14. Haha, yes, I can imagine that being a problem! When I took an old bass into a luthier he found two plastic spiders and a crayon in there. Given the simplicity of these foam blockers I reckon I could pretty easily get one made from a firm here and we could test them out. I'll give it some thought today.
  15. You should be able to take a template (or even take the bass) to a foam cutters and they'll do it for you. These are available, but the price is pretty crazy for such a simple item. And looking at it, the construction of these is pretty rustic... https://www.thomann.de/gb/duke_f_hole_cover_gfk_black.htm
  16. Alls well that ends well, it seems Wes may have something that works slightly better for me. I’m not disappointed in the slightest, think we’re all excited to see how you get on with it. I think a few of us would really love to see some demo videos or hear some sound recordings when you’re able to.
  17. It’s likely the shrink wrap was likely part of the reason it was held up. They notoriously cause issues for scanners which mean they’re manually processed rather than automatically. As for condition reports, it’s notoriously difficult isn’t it? I hope you manage to resolve this.
  18. I think that's a really fair price for the bass. I was alerted that 4 people were bidding at the end of the auction, so I have no doubts I would have been outbid by someone. Luckily it was Chris.
  19. I’ve already expressed my disgust to Chris in a personal message…. Only kidding. Good addition to the Basschat family. My worry is that it would end up being shipped off somewhere else to be in a display case. Seems that won’t happen here. Can’t wait to see the unboxing video 🙂
  20. I meant eBay is full of time wasting bidders (not sellers!)
  21. Haha, I got pipped at £2509.66 - so whoever bid after me got it. I’ve messaged him as eBay is so full of time wasters nowadays.
  22. Lost out at the last minute! Hey ho. Plenty more basses in the sea.
  23. Crikey. Seems my meagre bid won’t get near it then. Perhaps that’s a good thing given the value!
  24. True! I’ve got a Bryant double bass that I bought from new. It’s amazing, sounds incredible, but is a bit too refined. When I took it out of the case there was a hushed awe and it just felt too nice an instrument to take out to the practices and stuff I do. If this one doesn’t work out, I’ll pick up a cheaper ply bass or old carved one (interested in the one listed here!).
