  1. Totally get that. I tried one in December and I fell in love with it. Couldn’t afford it then, but I wanted it.
  2. 100% agree with this. What we're likely to see if the increasing importance of live performance and human interaction. We're seeing people losing trust (and faith) in digital media. When you can't be certain what you're reading, seeing and hearing is true, you'll look to validate it through your own experience. Current iterations of AI are useless for stuff like content generation. (I know because I work with it and see it every day.) But in a few years time, it'll likely be indistinguishable from human-generated content, at which point the value of that will disappear completely. My business, for example, won't exist in 5 years time in the way it does now. That's not scaremongering, it's true – and it will be the same for many other roles, professions and entire sectors. We can chose to embrace AI and allow it to perform transactional roles and socialising the benefits. Or we can let it be owned by billionaires who cream off the profits while the rest of us suffer. I have a hunch what will happen...
  3. Incredible basses.
  4. Sight reading with no prior knowledge of the piece is very very hard. Classical players will spend months (if not years) learning pieces and still need the music. I wouldn’t beat yourself up about it!
  5. The "it cost less in the past" game can get boring and obviously price doesn't necessarily reflect value. But, as someone who has recently been through a fairly traumatic experience buying an old bass (and subsequently discovered it was stolen) I would agree with the statement that if it appears too good to be true it probably is. In the end, the used price here is probably still less than the new price.
  6. I think the bass returned to auction where it was picked up but the weird fantasist / liar / crazy guy who runs Essex Recording Studios. I had a bass that was played by Entwistle with photos and never thought to mention it to the the new owner. This is just utterly pathetic and patent nonsense.
  7. These are absolutely fantastic basses.
  8. This was a concession sale apparently and had only just been dropped in. The shop is nice but everything is priced quite high. Still, lovely place and good luck to them!
  9. Congrats! Seems like a lovely bass and still less than the cost of a new one…
  10. To be fair the dep has asked about a fee which the OP has information about. Personally, if the gig is £100 and there are 4, it’s £25 each (regardless of where you live). But it’s not clear that the landlord will give you £100 (or indeed anything!).
  11. My wife is going (as she has for the past few years). It's easy to be cynical but there's a hugely supportive community of people who love it. They're not judged by their size, sexuality or anything else. Eurovision isn't my thing, but fair play. And I've been to the final once too and it was pretty cool event. Oh, and my cousins used to teach Ollie Alexander and he sent her a nice message as well. Good luck to him.
  12. I got this gig bag with a David Gage Czech Ease bass. Assume it’s 1/2 size. it’s been used but the inside is coming away. It leaves a sticky residue on the bass and I don’t have the skills to re-line it so it’s up for nowt. if it doesn’t go I’ll bin it. But perhaps someone can save it.
  13. The BBC has a collection of instruments that it uses as props and for performances. (Or at least it did when my friend worked there.) Wonderful looking guitar this. Good luck with the sale!
  14. I feel as soon as I’m getting bored with music I play with other people and inspiration returns. While some may enjoy music as a solitary pursuit, I’m not one of them. If you’re anything like me, I bet your mental health has improved too from being out and being creative. Love to hear some so post it here!
  15. Pictures. they look pink to me but my wife says purple…
  16. The Simandl book is great. You can find a copy for free download now (it’s out of copyright because of the age). If you can’t find it email me and I’ll send you a copy.
  17. I used to import guitars from the States and sell vintage amps and parts the other way. Bought several Hiwatt amps for very little and made thousands in the end. The Partridge transformers alone could sell for hundreds. Used to buy old Fender basses and part those out too. Best was probably a Hiwatt DR103 I bought for £200 and sold for £1800. Worst was a slightly twisted 1965 jazz bass neck I sold for £150.
  18. If the system is compromised then change your password.
  19. I’ve got some of these for sale (advertised here, and I pay subs, etc!)
  20. Good point. I found “proper” technique impossible on every EUB - including the Eminence, SLB etc.
  21. This is the only safe way to do it.
  22. I’ll provide an answer but there are much more experienced players here that can help you. Firstly, I practice for short periods but often. Say 15 - 20 minutes several times a day. I use a mirror so I can see my fingering hand and look at what’s happening. It seems you’re using your thumb to apply pressure to your fingers. Discovering Double Bass was great at helping me understand how little pressure you need. I watch a lot of classical music live (part it my job sometimes) and the thumb is used as a reference point on the neck, but not to apply pressure. Every few minutes you’ll need to remember to relax your hand and use your arm weight to apply pressure. im struggling with all of this and have booked a lesson or two to help me. The best results will come from spending time with an experienced player. Build things up slowly and don’t agree to play 3 x 45s on Sunday this weekend.
  23. Agree 100%. The jazz bass with blocks is an amazing piece and I’m sure this is too.
  24. The band is exceptional and the vocals terrible.
