  1. I asked at PMT and em this was basically what they told me. It’s one gig fee so I’ll order from Thomann. Appreciate the reply!
  2. Personally, I’d replace a busted pot or jack socket with new ones rather than try and source a vintage part. It’s all part of instruments story after all. Alternative is that a dealer doesn’t know (or wilfully ignores) then changed part and claims it’s all original.
  3. It’s with a dealer but I assume it’s a commission sale. Any real vintage dealer would do the work and stick it up for a bigger profit.
  4. There’s no real definition. It’s because bits have been changed that it’s not as desirable to a dealer or collector. When people say “players instrument” it often means it’s damaged!
  5. I’d look at all these as a trade down on what you have in terms of build quality and diversity of sound. No way would I swap a U.S. Jazz for an Epiphone.
  6. Sort of similar design to the Rascal. Loved that and never bought one when I should.
  7. This may not qualify as vintage, but it’s 100% collectible. I love these!
  8. I’m a pathetic, puerile man and I feel ashamed this made me laugh.
  9. I have just bought one of these and it’s ace. I’m trying to find the official hardcase but they’re all sold out. Can you let me know if there’s an alternative hard case that would fit? Mucho thanko.
  10. Music moves on. People lamenting the death of bands as a music and cultural force are those who’d believe music peaked in the 60s and 70s. Theres plenty of good stuff out there. Put down the 483rd Pink Floyd reissue and embrace it!
  11. They got the label wrong on this one.
  12. Looks amazing! Neck alignment can be changed, just loosen off the neck bolts and position the neck in the right place and screw in. Happens all the time. Obviously can’t see inside the bass but it looks all original from the outside. These seem to be rocketing up in value. Best of luck with it.
  13. They swapped the location of the thumb rest on all basses in 73/74. If you’re worried about originality, I’d post some picture here and people can share their views. (The arguments only seem to happen about the high value pre-CBS Fenders so should all be fine!)
  14. Once you’ve got a double bass there’s sort of no point. I did buy it for practice in the evening as I got an amazing deal on it, but it’s just sat in my living room shaming me every day!
  15. This looks cool. To my eternal shame I have a Wav 4 bass and I’ve literally never played it.
  16. Some people reckon it’s hippy BS but this could help you: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/alexander-technique/#:~:text=The Alexander technique teaches improved, posture and move more efficiently. I suffered from back pain after a motorbike injury and this - as well as some work at the gym - has transformed my posture. Im not medical expert so always speak to a professional before doing anything but don’t ever risk your back.
  17. One of the beautiful things about the double bass are the overtones. Of course, you won’t get this with an EUB. Adding a bit of chorus or reverb can help add another dimension to the sound, too.
  18. As everyone else says, don’t do anything too drastic!
  19. Think we can all agree that a ply bass is the way to go. One thing to consider is the cost of a set up and strings. A good set of strings is £150+ and a set-up can cost anything from £100 to £rightening. When it comes to double basses there aren't many "bargains" to be had. An unloved, unused or uncared for bass is a money pit. As someone said on here, buy from someone you can trust – either a dealer or a trusted forum member. Try before you buy and take lessons from someone who has played before to avoid short term pain and long term damage.
  20. Yeah! I’ve got a pdf copy of it but the book is much better.
  21. I want to buy it and can get it online but thought I'd ask the team! Progressive Repertoire for Double Bass - Vol. 1 (I know I could put a wanted ad down there, but nobody checks that do they)
  22. I’m not sure how that’s possible with guests requesting 24/7 access. When I was heading to Europe for a tour, the hotel manager allowed us to put all of our gear in a conference room. Turns out the Sky cycling team were staying at the same hotel and all their £13k Pinarellos were in there as well. Its easy to be judgemental here, but we’ve all left stuff in cars and vans I guess and it’s a horrid feeling.
  23. If one of my kids made that, I'd be impressed but I'd still hide it away in the loft.
  24. It is indeed a thing of absolute horror.
  25. This is going to put UK politicians in a real pickle. Trump is anti-Europe and will wage a trade war. The UK can, if it wants to, placate him and avoid that. But the risk is that we upset Europe and put a greater barrier in the way. It's fascinating and scary in equal measure. Prices here will increase and I can see that having a huge impact on consumers which is of course, you and me.
