  1. I hope this becomes a thread that’s used for good. If we all review it we can write the sort of adverts that are informative without resorting to cliches. I’m as susceptible to that as anyone else.
  2. Surely that’s less about the wood and more about the construction? I really don’t get the whole tonewood thing to be honest, but I am a Luddite.
  3. Ahh. Is it a northern thing? I’d understand WHYG (what have you got), but WHY was always a mystery!
  4. Does this mean: First person to see will buy (because it’s so good) - or - First person to see will buy (because you have no choice!!!) Any other good ones from adverts? Also, I still have no idea what WHY means in an advert.
  5. Similar story here. One guy kept a Banksy print in his divorce (“I always hated it”, his wife said). She changed her tune a couple of years ago, but was to late. There were galleries kf the ruff here in Bristol. Fair play he’s stayed loyal to the city.
  6. I could have bought an original signed Banksy print for £25 in a Bristol shop in 2002 that’s now worth about £40,000.
  7. You think? I’ve seen Fenders as dark as this if they’ve spent a life in smoky clubs but I profess to be no expert.
  8. I once laid down a vintage fender on the floor and it marked the back, which is why I never take them outside. The worst thing I ever did was use Pledge on a vintage finish which started to come off in my hand.
  9. You’ll have a wonderful time! Amazing city and people. Someone will do a cliche about Amsterdam, sex and drugs but there’s loads more than that there!
  10. I always love how they can stick a price up like that and provide no details. Andy Baxter on the other hand provides about 9,000 photos of everything you can think of. Some inconsistencies. Neck plate is from a 63, but control plate has recesses and pickguard screws, so that’s possibly swapped. Deffo had a refret as it would have had pencil thin frets and those are fat ones. Hardcase isn’t original. Probably worth a look but I’d take a proper expert (and a screwdriver) along before parting with my cash.
  11. This is a reasonably priced 70s Jazz, but look at the pickup routing... Just awful. https://bassbros.co.uk/product/1975-fender-jazz-bass/
  12. This can happen with old Fenders. I had it with a 74 Tele Deluxe. It’s not a fault, but can’t be an issue if you l prefer a higher action.

  14. Personally, I can’t find any other reason to play bass than to play live. I’m in now way criticising those who love to shred at home but, unlike guitar or piano, there’s little enjoyment in it. That’s why I’ve taken to playing guitar at home, and the byproduct means my bass playing is better.
  15. This is funny! I recently swapped from playing bass to guitar in a band with a load of my best friends. It’s really strange, figuring out when to play and when not to play, how to use dynamics and trying not to double the bass parts I’d played. When I’m at home I practice guitar not bass and it doesn’t harm either.
  16. After trying to sell gear on Gumtree I’m convinced most musicians in the world are timewasters… Personally I hate guitar amps cranked too loud, people who don’t prepare for rehearsals, venues that refuse to pay and people that endlessly talk about string spacing.
  17. For sale at £425. Will be heading to eBay soon, so snap up a bargain-ous Fender beast.
