    You're taking it better than I did, I "failed" an audition a few months ago and I was really pissed off. Mostly because they never told me it was an audition, they said it was a jam so I didn't sweat the preparation too much. I also asked repeatedly if they wanted me to learn any of their songs and they said no. The "audition" was then 2 hours of them playing their songs and me having to make up basslines on the fly. In hindsight I'm glad I didn't get in as they were obviously unprofessional and incompetent, but at the time it really pissed me off.

    Time to be a realist, and accept that I'm just not using this, and the money would be infinitely more useful. I'll borrow my brothers camera soon to get some proper pictures but here's one I already have: It's in excellent condition, cosmetically there's a slight chip in the channel 4 volume knob, and there's some dents in the top grille but consider it's probably over 40 years old it's in superb shape. Functionally, the grub screw in the channel 4 bass knob has snapped, and so the pot can't be adjusted properly. This is probably a very easy fix, but to be honest as channel 4 sounds the same as 2 and 3 it's never been necessary. The presence pot also has a slight crackle, again a touch of contact cleaner would probably fix this. It still has the tubes that I got it from Tayste with, power section is Groove Tubes and preamp is a mix of Sovtek and Brimar I think, I can check if anyone wants to be sure. I haven't had the master volume above 3 since I got it and it's only had sporadic play for the last 18 months or so, always been properly warmed up and cooled down, just fired it up and it's running great. It's not a gritty tone, channels 2-4 give a lovely bright tone, while channel 1 is wired with different caps to give a great round smooth tone. I'm after [b]£250, [/b]collection form York would be the preferred option. I am open to posting it, price would be up to you, however I'd be very hesitant to ship it without insurance. If you're interested in having it posted let me know and we can work something out. At the moment I'm not looking to sell my cab on it's own, however if you wanted both we could work something out, it's an SWR Goliath 1 4x10.

A pleasant side note, dropping such an obtuse word into casual conversation, kicking me in the gonads - without hesitation - then laughing at me writhing around on the floor, is in hindsight, when I fell in love with her.

    An old girlfriend had a Curbow and she loved it, as she said it was the only bass she'd ever played that didn't interfere with her muliebrous physique (That's a direct quote BTW). I could barely play the thing, the neck dive was too bad but she said it was fine for her. As a light hearted joke I suggested her "muliebrous physique" was providing ballast, and you'll probably be delighted to hear she kicked me in the balls.

    Well my original idea of all bass and guitar is now long abandoned and has been replaced by a weird thing centered around an awkward 9/4 hip-hop beat and a tape delayed guitar bit....... Kinda stuck on the bass though, I've got a bass synth sound in my head but I just can't seem to get there with any of the VST's I've got, anyone got recommendations?     I keep meaning to comment on one of these threads, love her stuff, it's so dense with ideas and little quirk, brilliant to hear that in this area of the musical; spectrum. Her phrasing is just mind boggling, especially combined with the speed and pitch acrobatics. Can't wait to hear a proper quality version of this, there's some crazy stuff going in the the second instrumental bit with the strings and the whispery vocals and maybe a synth, but it kinda gets lost under the swirly tinniness of the youtube bitrate unfortunately, I'll definitely be giving the EP a listen.

    My dad gave me some super heavy duty stuff they apparently use to hold train side panels on, but I never got round to using it, as I wasn't gigging at the time and was constantly changing the board. My board is just a flight case, I've had a few jams recently and I've just taken to putting a pillow on top of the pedals, holds them in place perfectly. I'll probably dig out that train stuff if I start gigging again though.

    I really can't settle on an interpretation of this, I look at it and see a lot of things, a mountain range, a guy trapped under a sheet (reassuring seen as that's what it is), and any number of sci-fi/horror films where something bursts forth from a membrane. I'll probably end up doing something claustrophobic and unsettling. I'm setting myself a slight challenge of only using a bass, guitar, and pedals to generate sounds, which should be fine except for the glitchy drum beat I have planned, that could be a bit of a ball ache.

    It looks like I'm going to win a guitar on evilBay, the seller has agreed to ship it if i arrange and pay for a courier (although last time I agreed that with a seller they got very annoyed that they had to package it...). I'll use interparcel to arrange it, so does anyone have opinions on who's the best out of TNT, Parcelforce, UPS and CityLink for shipping guitars? There isn't a case included in the sale so he'll probably pack it in a box, so careful handling will be very important.

    Good mix of styles again this month. To satisfy the curiosity of probably no-one, my title is an anagram of "Harvey's Bristol Cream", with the possessive apostrophe omitted because that's just the kind of grammatical badass I am. It was the christmasiest thing I could think of.

[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAc5JCKfgZ0[/media] One of my favourite songs of all times so it's no surprise I like the bassline, but I think it's really creative. Fitting a good bassline around 2 guitars, keyboards, strings, vocals and a very busy drum part can't be easy, but I love the way the bass meanders around everything. Every instrument is doing it's own thing but it never sounds cluttered, at least to me.

Less is more. [/quote] The trouble is a lot of people think like that and they shouldn't, music (to me at least) isn't about how many notes you can play per minute. A lot of these sorts of players act like there's some sort of league table and whoever can play the most notes "wins" at bass. That's just not how I view music, and I don't see why that opinion is somehow invalid because they can play more notes per minute than I can (because ALWAYS what those types of players mean by "best").     Definitely back in this month, that picture for me conjures up ambient gloom drone because it's kinda depressing, or fast heavy post-hardcore riff-fest, because clearly a lively night of drinking has preceded it, can't decide which to opt for.

    A fixed £20 fee would definitely put me off selling, ATM I only sell a couple pedals a year on here, and £20 up front to list less £150 worth of stuff that isn't guaranteed to sell, and in fact probably won't sell just isn't worth it. Probably half the stuff I've ever listed here I've either given up on selling or had to take to eBay, so an up front fee is just stupid, what if I pay my £20 in January, list a few things, but by December I've not sold anything, would you refund my fee? The marketplace just isn't reliable enough to justify an up front fee. A capped percentage of all sales might work, but you'd probably just get people factoring it into their prices like they do with paypal fees, raising prices so potentially they don't sell. As much as it pains me to say it, I think what TB do is pretty sensible, anyone can view and reply to classifieds, but only supporting members can post them. A TB supporting membership is $20, which is cheaper than the £20 you're proposing and gives other benefits besides just classifieds. The problem though is that you'd probably have to remove features from a regular membership to give to the supporting members, like avatars, signatures and the like. Personally I would pay £10 or £15 a year for a supporting membership, but you'd probably have a backlash from people who don't want to pay when their avatars disappear or they can't post ads any more. I know we have significantly less members than TB so it might not end up being worth it, but I think it's far preferable to just paying for classifieds access.
