  1. My number one bass hero. I love the tone and the bass lines. Me and the guitarist in our current band are real fans of Free… a previous incarnation of the band were called “Freezone”… so you can guess what we mostly played… even did “Mr Big” (Gawd ‘elp me)… spent some hours practising that…
  2. Can’t believe the black guard makes so much difference… never fancied the black jmj… up until now.
  3. It’s Tigerstripe ebony. I had two amazing examples on my fretless Warwick basses. It looks great.
  4. It’s a natural organic material… it’s part of the charm… it wouldn’t bother me.
  5. Mockingbird was one of their biggie “must play” songs… a bit dangerous to leave to encore number 5. Delph is just a few miles from here… nearly ran John Lees over once… he always was a miserable git… probably still is…
  6. Look through the photos… it’s got a flamethrower in the headstock… that does it for me.
  7. How about… “if you want to hear more we’re playing down at the Dog and Duck next Friday. The drummer has gone for a sh|t and I’m going home for a cup of tea and a KitKat.”
  8. I saw an ad for a bass player once… No Jacks or Jacos. I’ve just spent the last 16 months of lockdown embracing my inner Jack… but two minutes into our first rehearsal a couple of weeks ago I decided it was best not to upset Ginger… The fancy stuff is on the backburner…
  9. I’m still confused about it tbh. I’m in closed groups… you can view but can’t participate until you ask to join. I’m not on them as “Trueno”… just another made up name. Edit… as everyone probably knows, my real name is Tancred Trueno III.
  10. You can join facebook and remain pretty much anonymous. I joined for a couple of art groups and no-one knows I’m there. You’ll still get loads of “friend” requests from loads of people you don’t know but I just ignore them.

    Second tuner pedal

I think mine’s a TU2… I’ve had it for years and find it great for initial tuning and a quick check mid-gig. I like the fact that it also mutes the signal when you kick it in… and also that you can take a power out, which I use for my Tech 21 pedal.
  12. I can only headbutt with the beat…
  13. I think they’re taking the bargepole… I’d go somewhere else.
  14. 71? Still a spring chicken. Keep on rockin’
  15. Fiat 500. Short scale and makes a surprising farty noise when pushed.
  16. We had a dep singer once when I was in a functions band. He was actually a good singer but he just stood there and told jokes all night. We only got through about half the set. I loved it... he was very funny and we had very easy night.
  17. Chili... you’ve woken up the best thread on here. Great basses too.
  18. Someone will say it, so I’ll get in first... Fender Rumble 500 combo. Light, loud, sounds great. But... as you already have an Elf you may be better exploring other options.
  19. Waking this thread up as I’ve just got back from our first rehearsal. I was quite shocked at how good we were... everyone has clearly been practising and we have been doing stuff on Garageband (that was a pain). Everyone admitted to being a bit nervous and everyone had their own “moments”... thinking “I need to sort that bit out before next time...” Very positive experience, but it took me nearly three hours to get the bass to sit in the mix... I should be up and running next time.
  20. Similar story here. We should have bought a Basschat bottle and shared it around.
  21. Mostly variations on the metronome theme. As mentioned, it can be really useful to record yourself... and practice, practice, practice. Just my view... it’s better to be the weakest link in a band than being the strongest. Great motivation to stretch yourself and improve.
