The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
Trueno replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
£42.44 is a bit precise... what’s the 44p for? Anyway... just call me Ex-dubya. XWG is a bit formal -

There’s always the option to change your name... that’s what I did when I fancied a personalised car number plate. -

The Lionel is definitely at the top of the list for me. But who the hell wants a bass called Lionel? -
Just don’t play open strings or the first fret and you’ll be fine.

You really would like “Ulysses” then. But “Finnegans Wake” is a step too far imo...

I’ve never had any problems with my Geezers (oo’er). My first thought would be to make sure all the push-in connecters are still pushed in nice and tight... and the right way round.

Earlpilanz on ebay is recommended by some bc’ers. I ordered a Mustang pickguard from him... needed a MIM PJ without the hole for the pickup switch. Great service and great pickguard edit... can’t find him on ebay now... maybe it’s lockdown brain-fog... or maybe someone else will know better.

Markbass Mini CMD121P or Fender Rumble 500 - help!
Trueno replied to Duroc17's topic in Amps and Cabs
For the record... I used to play Warwick Thumb BO with the MB, never got to try it with the passive P-style pickup I use now. It would be interesting to try. -
Markbass Mini CMD121P or Fender Rumble 500 - help!
Trueno replied to Duroc17's topic in Amps and Cabs
Funnily enough... I’ve had both. I used to gig a lot with the MB but sold it when I thought my gigging days were over. I got an unsolicited new band offer... so bought the Rumble 500. We play classic rock, some slow blues and some rocky pop (or poppy rock) Purely a personal opinion, but I feel the Rumble suits me better... I just love the tone and never have to turn the volume up much. If I still had the MB I would still use it... but I was never that fond of it’s sound... I also thought it was too clean... I kept everything flat and played through my EBS Microbass II. I also use the EBS with the Rumble, but I hardly touch the tone on the pedal or the amp, it just has that “taking a blanket off the sound” sort of effect, as well as a handy DI and mute function. But... significantly... I’d play the Rumble without the pedal and not sweat it. If you really can’t choose... then toss a coin... but I suspect you may have a secret preference that needs validating by BCers. I can fit The Rumble in the boot of a Fiat 500... but I’ve also bought a Rumble 100 for home use and rehearsals. I play a MIM PJ Mustang fitted with Nordstrands... mostly on P pickup only at the moment. -
EMG Geezer Butler P/J pickup set. Review.
Trueno replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Accessories and Misc
Excellent pickups. I fitted these to my Squier Jaguar SS. No problems with fitting in my case and I fine-tuned pickup height over a couple of days. The bass is supposed to be a back-up, but I could easily live with it as my go to. -
I use a new Zoom B1 with a 2014 Mac Mini with headphones. I mostly play along to stuff the band has recorded on garageband and is on my iTunes. I did play with all the settings on the Zoom, but I mostly use the Bassman sim. It all works perfectly for me. The built in tuner is really useful, too.

Upgrading Pickups and Electronics on a cheap bass?
Trueno replied to BasistaFunky's topic in Repairs and Technical
EMG Geezer pickups do it for me. I’ve fitted them to my Squier Jaguar SS and they sound superb. It’s all passive and you get the electronics with it. -
I play the sax and the flute. I also make thumpy noises on the bass.

I put a fretless Status neck on a MIA Precision... about 15 years ago. It was a lovely combination. I had a new bridge... might have been ABM... as I didn’t like the BBOT. If I knew what I know now... I’d have swapped out the execrable S1 (which I hated and is the main reason I sold it) for a KiOgon loom and called it a do. Your bass looks fantastic... the pickups must sound great. If you re-finish I’d go for CAR... but I’m a CAR nut, so don’t listen to me.

Never had a problem... I get that Dave Swift chappie in to record my stuff.

Some VERY good news at last - live music back by the Spring?
Trueno replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Hanging was never the same after they brought in VAR. -
I was never very good with the “don’t spend the proceeds until...” rule.

Fairly modest here, I think... Yamaha BB404 Zoot Chaser 4 Yamaha BEX4 Fender MIA Precision Fender CIJ Mustang Warwick Rochbass Streamer (fretless) Warwick Rockbass Corvette (fretless) Warwick Corvette $$ (fretless) Warwick Thumb BO (fretless) Fender MIA Jazz ... all four stringers. I always had a “no more than three” and “one in one out” rule. Now I have... Squier Jaguar SS, with EMG Geezer pickups Fender MIM Mustang, with Kiogon loom and Nordstrand pickups
-
... and me. Passive Fender/Squier through an EBS Microbass II and into a Fender Rumble 500 (or 100 for rehearsals). Amp eq flat, unless there are room issues. Not a lot of shaping on the EBS, but it really lifts everything... it’s mostly set-and-forget. I love the sound.
-
I’ve never been very good at scrolling through menus tbh... I prefer twiddling a knob or two. I’m still on the setting I found within the first five minutes of switching it on... the Bassman set. Funnily enough, I’m just looking at the guide right now.

Unbiased review: Sire U5 short scale (30" scale) P/J bass
Trueno replied to Bassdude BE's topic in Bass Guitars
I just use standard straps on my 30” basses... not affected by the neck length. Fender have a short scale gig bag... fits my Mustang and Squier SS. A standard hard case may be too long for the neck but might fit ok... maybe you’d have to modify inside with some foam, if it moves about in the case. Try it and see.
