  1. I love Candy Apple Red. It looks great with the white scratchplate and maple neck. GLWTS
  2. Don't confuse me with the facts!
  3. Off the tip of the reed. You're basically interrupting the airflow so you don't play legato. It might be worth having a few lessons... just to make sure you've got the basics... or an easy starter book, just for the technique. There are probably you tube lessons... there wasn't any you tube when I started. ... and don't even think about playing "Baker Street"... listen to King Curtis' "Memphis Soul Stew"... THAT'S how you play it. In fact, listen to everything by King Curtis (Curtis Ousely)... his version of Peter Gunn is awesome.
  4. If you don't tongue you will be playing legato all the time. You go t-t-t-t with your tongue. That's all part of articulation. I would advise loads of tone exercises each day. Long notes... followed by more long notes. Then long notes crescendo and diminuendo... hold the notes when your breath is tailing off. Don't play flat at low volume and don't play sharp at loud volumes. Then play more long notes... then repeat. All those keys are actually an advantage. If you include the octave key you've virtually got a key for each note... easier than playing a flute, which has a greater range and fewer keys.
  5. TE watts not the same as normal watts = good. I do have a mystic cardboard box where I keep my rune stones... along with the tarot and other similar stuff... I'll give them a cast and see what turns up.
  6. Curse you, Mr Stew. I've spent many hours considering post-lockdown amplification... particularly going from lightweight to super-lightweight (due to my cronky legs). Now you've put my brain into overdrive again. Feel free to share any views... plus or minus.
  7. I'm in the "would like to try one" category. I love the look, not sure if the sound would suit me.
  8. Another short-scale player here... I love the Wyman bass!
  9. I also think, if stuff is sitting around in a huge heap for weeks, there's more chance of your precious strings etc etc disappearing into oblivion. I'm going to order some pickups from bass direct. I'll check with them first, unless they're coming via UPS or DPD or whatever, I'll wait a while. On the other hand, I had a package of coffee beans supposed to be delivered by DPD a few weeks ago that went walkies. Some git will be sitting down now supping my coffee... Coffee Direct sent a new pack out pronto. No fresh coffee beans.. the horror! the horror!
  10. Very interesting point... cheers. The thing about the one10s is that they are mega-light. I have problems with my legs and my balance. But, the RCFs have a very good profile for carrying, which is in their favour and one would sit nicely on the floor as a wedge.
  11. Why is it so cheap? What's the catch? It seems it would make a good basis for an ultra-light rehearsal rig plus a Barefaced one10... then add another one10 later for gigging. Truth is, I get my killer tone through my EBS Microbass II and usually leave the amp controls flat (with only minor tweaks for the room). What could possibly go wrong?
  12. Definite vote for the tort, for me... oh! The bass looks great too. ... and I'd get a grommet for the hole... oo er, missus...
  13. The mismatch in size never bothered me, but I moved to a new band who went through a massive PA so I never really needed the extension cab after that.
  14. I used to have that combo with a 15" MB extension cab... it was a monster.
  15. Well... advice... If I was going to do it, I think I'd try a craft knife... it's like a scalpel (but you may know that already). I'd pick the required length, then slice down the length of the silk from that point to the end, then try and scrape away the silk. I don't know how tidy it would look and I don't know neat the end would be... but that's how I would go at it. Something very sharp and slicey/scrapey action... plus a bit of practice. Maybe take off a bit at a time.

    NBD - P/J

I'd be tempted to leave it on passive myself. Lovely looking bass... and I love PJs.
  17. Bits I've read on this forum seem to indicate that latency is a problem, but I'd be interested if anyone has any success.
  18. There is an old thread on BC about this, but I'm not good at posting links. 1) get the bass line completely nailed. 2) practice, practice, practice. My extra points... 3) be entirely comfortable with the singing... in my case I found that singing in a higher register was easier. 4) I simplified the basslines under the singy bits, then after loads of practice, I found I could put the more complicated bass back. But I reckon that good bvs make more of an impact than fancy bass.
  19. I have discovered... after much practice... I actually can sing backing vocals while playing the bass.
  20. I presume the Sutherland brothers were the same from "Sutherland Brothers and Quiver"... saw them, late 1974, I think.
  21. If you can fit it on a Nano then it is minimalist. I'm still thinking about upgrading my EBS Microbass II to a III... then I wouldn't even need a tuner... or a Nano. But... if I got a III I think I'd just set it up to get the same sound I get now.
  22. If you have a smart meter you'll soon tell... when I put my kettle on it goes straight to DefCon3.
  23. Yes... classic Zootbass outline. It's a cousin of the Zootbass Chaser I used to have (the one I regret selling).
  24. Layer of pancakes... with some goo on top.
