Nah! Turn ‘em inside out and they’re good for another six months.
  2. I hate bbot bridges… more aesthetic than anything else. I replaced the bridges on a MIM Mustang and a Squire SS Jaguar with a Gotoh bridge. It was a straight drop in replacement in both cases.
  3. Tedious stuff. Luckily I stopped listening before it trashed my memories of the glorious Lizzie original.
  4. Someone snap this up quick! Awesome bass, awesome price. This is the one that got away… could even be the same bass. Absolutely loved the fretboard and the tones. I allowed myself to be talked into selling it by the BL of the band I was in… and I left the band a few weeks later. If I was still in a band or had the least intention of joining one, I’d give it serious consideration. GLWTS
  5. I use ghostery for this site. No ads.
  6. Never gigged… means it’s unplayable.
  7. It’s a shame you never got into it… that’s some fantastic kit to learn on. I ‘ve had an earlier version of the Jazz and I’ve also had an Orange Crush 100. Great bass and amp… but I’m sure that most people looking at this will already know that. GLWTS.
  8. Is that a Shetland… a Northern Powerhorse, maybe. …. please don’t lock the thread…
  9. I’d have been proper tempted 20 years ago. Nowadays I’d buy the Squier and replace the pickup and electrics… if I was still in a band.
  10. If I wasn’t bandless… and if I didn’t have two short scale basses which are honed to (my version of) perfection… I would seriously consider one of these. Not a fan of the headstock. 3+3 would look better… I also think a tele style would look good. The sound in the demo also floats me aural boat.
  11. My first bass… mine was black, love that colour, though. GLWTS
  12. Might be a chance to pick up a V.1 at a bargain price. Don’t fancy the exploded pallette V.2 personally.
  13. I played classic rock on my fretless… all the usual suspects plus AC/DC, Lizzie, Guns n Roses… no-one ever noticed the difference.
  14. Geoffrey Hughes also voiced Macca in the Yellow Submarine film… so there is a bass connection. The character of Eddie Yeats in corrie was my hero.
  15. As an experiment… put on a capo, say second fret… and tune the bass down. This might help to decide if a 30” scale might work for you. Or… keep one bass set up this way for a bit of relief when you need it. You may also consider getting an Ashbory bass… I see the Bass Centre in the UK are now selling cool-looking versions. Again, it might provide relief on bad days, as well as a different double-bassy tone. I’ve seen pro gigs with an Ashbory… the bass player used it in the first set for more acoustic-y bluesy stuff. I found a fretless was easier on my hands, done most of my serious gigs with one, with slightly lighter strings. The fact that you get no pain while resting is a real positive.
  16. Try using a Powerball gyroscope exerciser. You can get them from Amazon at all price points, but you don’t need the screen or flashing lights. I got a basic Powerball for about £35. It worked for my wrist injury… it may or may not work for you. Takes a bit of getting used to… first couple of times it just dies on you.
  17. Many years ago, in the cafe at the Forton Services on the M6, someone put Lizzie on the juke box. When I looked up… it was them. Phil Lynott was wearing the most unfeasibly tight leather kecks and they all looked Rocker than Rock. I’ve played a lot of Lizzie in bands, but a full on tribute band sounds great. Hope the gig goes well.
  18. I took Glucosamine and Cod Liver Oil before I had my hip resurfacing. Now the new hip is the only bit of me that works properly. When I had trouble playing with my bony claws I found it easier to play fretless. I had two awesome active Warwicks and played in rock bands… just the same as a fretted and had no complaints from band mambers. Never played a mwwaaahhh in my life. Also… it has been very cold lately… a bit of warmer weather may help.
  19. I converted my MIM PJ Mustang into a P only. Put an EMG Geezer into the P position and a dummy J pup cover into the J position. Put in a Gotoh bridge (cosmetic only, can’t hear any difference) and rolled the fingerboard.
  20. I bought a Shure Beta 57 years ago. Originally for sax and flute… because I read it had quite a flat response (compared to the SM58 anyway). It’s built like a tank and had many uses since I started playing bass, including micing drums, guitar cabs and BVs. I’ve never used it to mic a bass cab, but I’m sure it would be fine if I did.
  21. I’ve been asked twice… and found it weird. I’m sure on one occasion they thought I was someone else…
