I've just got a Fender Rumble 500 for my return to gigging phase of life. Bloody marvellous it is... and light.
-
I've had my own issues with Andertons. I won't use them again.
-
We can start now... buy as much as you can before 1st January 2021. Sounds good.
-
Is this actually a "buy as much stuff as you can before 1st Jan" thread? I thought I might sign up for the abstinence in 2020... in good faith, I might add. Then I saw something in a NBD thread that made me go weak at the knees...

I've been to see some bands perform before I've even approached them for an audition. Just stood at the back and not announced myself. It's not just the music they play, it's very telling what they're like when setting up, between sets and tearing down.

Looks great and very interested to read your comments. Have fun. From a tall guy that only plays short scale basses - you've given me GAS!

The best revenge is to thrive. It will probably be easy to find a better band than that shower.

Jack Bruce teaches Rory Gallagher the riff as they go on stage
Trueno replied to prowla's topic in General Discussion
Funnily enough, I found this clip a couple of weeks ago and sent it to the rest of the band... just so they could bask in the sheer awesomeness of the performance. For a brief moment it made me regret selling my Warwick Thumb... but it never made me play like Jack... -
Some modest pedal-related GAS for 2020. Who knows where it will end.
-
I had one just like that with the funky logo and bridge. Mine was fretless. I bought it brand new about 2006, I reckon. It was a good bass for the money. I only sold it because I moved on to a German made Thumb.

I used to have one of these amps and the DI out was always too hot for the desk. I used the DI on my EBS Microbass pedal. I had no idea you could change the level, but it was about 12 years ago so maybe the amp has changed a bit... quite possible I missed it, though. As it happened, the DI from the EBS wasn't too shabby...

For Sale - Hofner Ignition Club Bass. ***SOLD***

The vintage mode is off the menu... too much for me. There's still four bands of eq to go for. Think I ended up with the bass flat and some lift on low mids.
-
I'm strictly short scale now. I've had a Squier Jag SS for a while and just got a MIM PJ Mustang. Interesting comments about the eq. First try out at rehearsal last week and the drummer was saying there's too much bass. Got a new amp as well (Rumble 500) so need to experiment a bit.

Happy ending#1 I got a Fender truss rod tool and it engages. The 3/16 hex key doesn't, but this does. End of problem. The tool is going in my bass bits box. No... I'm not even going to adjust the truss rod... or maybe just a little bit. Yes... Fender are miserable gits for not including one. Happy ending#2 Had my first rehearsal with the new bass yesterday. Bloody awesome. NBD post coming soon. Thanks to the BCers who have shared my pain.

I don't think they do. Think I've even read some reviews that they don't even provide them with quite expensive stuff. I didn't get the usual two hex keys with this bass (a Mexican)... now I think about it, that's one of the reasons I was confused about the right key. I got the hex keys with my Squier Jag a few short years ago... and that cost me the grand total of £170 (a bargain).

This truly is the Bass of the Gods. After some to-ing and fro-ing with Andertons (who I bought it off) my instinct is "f*** it". It doesn't actually need adjusting and I won't be changing string gauge... ever. If it ever needs some adjustment I'll be getting my retirement pension by then (???) so I may get the luthier to whack in some expensive pick ups and stuff at the same time.
-
My usual "tool box" allen keys don't fit. It occured to me they're probably metric while the Fender is imperial. 3/16" seems to be the standard size. I have some 3/16" allen keys in my bass-tinkering stuff, but they don't engage. Getting a light down the socket showed that the adjuster is full of crud... mostly sawdust. Cleaned some of it out but the keys still don't engage. I might have to take a punt on the t bar. The only other explanation seems to be that the Mexican guy in the factory decided to fit a mutant truss rod... the last one in the box.
-
I'll try the whole lot, thanks. Now I've had a good thump on the bass this afternoon There are no buzzes or anything... plays and sounds great. So it will remain a rhetorical question. Cheers.

Just got a brand new Fender Mustang MIM PJ bass. I've stuck a Gotoh bridge and my fave strings on it and set it all up. It's all pretty damn good tbh. The truss rod may need a smidge of adjustment... just being perfectionist, there are no buzzes or anything. I can't find a hex key to fit... so I'm assuming it needs a Fender ball end wrench. I just want to check before I buy one... and is it one size fits all... or am I missing something? Even if I don't need to adjust now, I want one for future eventualities. Cheers, everyone.

Hofner Ignition Club Bass. My new bass is due to arrive any moment, so sadly this has to go on my "one in, one out" rule. It's in very good condition and never left the house. Feel free to ask any questions, but not sure what else to add at the moment. I would just say (if you don't know anything about these basses) make sure you're aware of the quirkly control layout... The bass is very light and comes with the added bonus of a vintage-style leather strap (it's actually a Fender Strap, but works very well with the vibe... it's very comfortable and balances the bass well). Also, I've added proper Hofner Potinobs (???) to the control plate, more in keeping with the vibe. I've replaced the original scratchplate (nasty) with a whizzy new one from Jack's Instruments. And it's currently strung with La Bella "Beatle" flats, but I'll include the unused original woundrounds as well. The only downside... one of the screwheads for the truss rod cover is stripped, but you can still take the other two off off slide the cover aside for truss rod adjustment. No other quirks that I know of... except the whole bass is damn quirky... that's the fun. No problem if you want to come and try and take away with you, but I can also ship to anywhere in the UK for an extra... erm... let me see... say £10 and I'm diddling myself. I'm hoping this is well-priced, I need the space and it must go to a good home. Cheers, Guys

Good luck in your search for the perfect stack! But keep the Ashdown, though. To tweet or not to tweet, that is the question. I'm glad my new amp has a tweeter switch... it'll probably remain off. I think my previous Mark Bass combo had no option to turn the tweeter off... I even thought about disconnecting it. But I never entirely got on with the Mark Bass sound, mine was heavily modded via an EBS Microbass pedal.

I've already been looking for extension cabs... heh! heh! It's on the GAS backburner at the moment. I had an extension cab for my previous Mark Bass amp, but found I didn't need it very often. But if I found the type of gigs we do need the rig... I'd get one. I love the tolex covering and silver face look btw. I used to end up hoovering all the gig detritus off the Mark Bass woolly covering (I'm a bit weird that way).
-
Thanks, guys Back to plan A on the GAS. Control myself and go along to a music shop and try some stuff. I think a Mustang is on the cards sometime... regret selling my CIJ Mustang years ago. I think it's better to get used to the amp first. The new band. I've been with these guys before but they've got rid of the pain in the a*** keyboard player and got a new singer who's also a good guitarist. It's classic rock, but also some not-so-usual stuff... Jeff Healey, Joe Bonamassa, Tom Petty. I left them originally because they didn't do enough gigs, but that suits me now. It's relaxed, no egos, no ambition-mismatches... they also have a strict limit on only one fag break per rehearsal (I don't smoke). So far so good.

New band, new amp. Sold my Mark Bass after quitting gigging for good (or so I thought) so decided to go for something lightweight but completely different. Although it looks a bit of a mini-beast, it's crazy light... it even feels a touch lighter than my practice amp. I've only had a quick thump on it, just to check everything's working, but will need to try out properly in the rehearsal room next week... I'll get a workable tone and go from there. Very pleased so far... tonewise, weightwise... and it won't look quite so silly as the Mark Bass when standing between two guitar half-stacks. The good news is that it's too hardcore for my boxroom/practice space, so I get to keep my much-loved Orange Crush 50. The bad news... it sounds so good with my Squier Jag SS that I may have to de-GAS myself. Very nearly pulled the trigger on a Black Friday Vintera Mustang.
