1. This is the only pedal I've used in a live situation (apart from a tuner). Awesome bit of kit and built like a tank.
2. My first band when playing bass was very inexperienced and a real shocker after my sax playing gigs. The (so called) lead guitarist was incapable of counting and just stuck fills in at random moments. If it's your first band you should just stick with it for a while to gain a bit of experience and then find a decent band. It's best to be in a band where everyone else is better than you... it's challenging but much more satisfying and you will improve hugely. Sounds like you are banging your head against a brick wall with this lot... I 've been there... very frustrating.
3. Don't know where I heard this and don't know how well it works. Heat the screw up... best way is by applying a soldering iron. Screw expands and the hole expands with it. Screw cools down and shrinks, hole stays the same size. Might just give you a tiny bit of wiggle room when you get the pliers on it.
4.
There's always a serious one
Or maybe one who doesn't realise how his post is coming across, which is usually my speciality.
5. They're all arguing about: Are we alone in the universe Whether the swear filter works when you play Mustang Sally Summat about flying from Birmingham to Rome ??? Sorry, can't help you with the fret sizes, I just go with what I get, which are probably medium jumbo frets or jumbo frets. I know I didn't fancy the idea of the tall narrow frets on the new pro Fenders... they're supposed to help when youre bending the notes, which is something I don't do when playing live. So if I had the choice, I'd probably take along my Am Std Jazz and say, go with that.
6. We definitely need to hear the other side of the story. Maybe we could forgive him if he played it with the necessary heft.
7. Great job! I also debated whether to upgrade the nut on my Thumb BO to a brass nut and decided it wasn't worth it. If you try it and have a positive outcome I might revisit that one.
8. Just get this one out of the way... Jazzy McJazzface... and move swiftly on. How about Take Three?
9. How about a MIM fender or something similar and buy an unlined neck separately. I fitted an unlined Status neck to a P bass once.
10. Don't I love rests. Some rests are very simple, but it can get a bit complicated until you're used to the music. One thing I do is subvocalise the rest... like a small hum in your head or a tiny tongue click instead of the note.
11. Maybe he really wants a short scale bass but can't be bothered/can't afford to buy one.
12. Each to their own, I suppose. At least it gave me a good old laugh.
13.
I use Tux Guitar its free and you can use guitar pro files in it if you decide too
Thanks for that.
14. Just a thought... you may be able to use a tiddley plastic funnel, from Amazon or a pound shop. I bought one recently for summat or other. You might need an unusual amount of digital dexterity (or three hands) to apply it, though. I agree about the straws... I've had a large can of contact cleaner for years. Where's the straw? Gawd knows...
15. Thanks for the replies. I should have been more specific in the op. I'm mostly after tabs plus playalong (if possible).... like guitarpro ( as I remember it, at least). Wouldn't be averse to some lesson-y stuff to get back up to speed. I don't gig any more, so I was thinking of making up a "set list from hell" and blasting along to it as the fancy takes. I don't want to spend much time challenging my technique or anything... I've had enough of that sort of pain over the years. All recommendations will be checked out.
16. I used to like Guitarpro, but for complicated reasons I don't have it any more... changed my computer, lost my reference number, guitarpro won't answer my emails... Any decent cheap or free alternatives? Or maybe good reasons why I should buy the full version again. No you tube suggestions though... can't get on with a video of a guy showing me stuff... don't know why. Cheers.
17. Thought I would finally shift myself and finally post this.
18. I have two basses and thought about getting rid of one. After months of careful consideration I've decided I actually need three. The issue, I think is whether you have any basses that you don't play and it's a bit if a shame that they lie around unused. I've quit gigging and I thought I only needed one bass for bedroom noodling. Ironically, playing both basses to see which I prefer has led me to the conclusion that they are both excellent and very playable in their own ways... and both entirely different (a fretted Jazz and a fretless Thumb). Now I think a fretted Precision would complete the set... maybe a pimped up MIM.
19. I used to use Doc's Proplugs, which are relatively cheap, fit into the outer bits of your ear and don't go into your ear canal too far. Might be worth trying until you get a better custom made solution. I suffer from labyrinthitis myself, but never had any problem using these little critters.
20. I've always thought I've been quite cool and relaxed pre-performance, but I can always tell from the dry mouth that this is not really the case. On the occasions I've played to crowds of 1,000+ I've always been a bit more nervous. It's like a roller coaster... you're nervous when you get on, you're ok once it's started... and as soon as it's finished you want to do it again. Congrats... and enjoy yourself... it's much better than playing to an audience of six people.
21. That is a crazy amount of bass for the money. I already have a jazz, but glwts.
22. In the spirit of the OP... I picked up the bass because I couldn't manage the full six strings in the standard gee-tar. Why would I want to complicate that by adding one more... and me back couldn't handle the extra weight anyway...
23. Having read through all this lot quite carefully, it seems to me that you and this band are not a good match. I'd bin 'em off and save further pain.
