1.
I set intonation on my fretless using the edge of a fingernail to stop the string for accuracy.
Good idea. The edge of a credit hard might work, but you may need three hands.
 2.
Then you may miss a treat. A *good* e-kit is great and sounds great onstage too.
The reason I don't like them is because I've been there and done that. I can assure you I'm not missing any kind of treat.
 3. Always worth having a look at Gary Willis' website for fretless stuff. Don't know how to link, but try googling Gary Willis fretless set up.
 4. You'd be better off with a proper amp stand. Or otherwise see if you can knock some sort of wedge together yourself. If it's the same one I had.... three bits of cloth covered stuff with a bit velcro... it's not worth the money, and not very stable.
 5. I had imogees once. Soon cleared up with the ointment.
 6. I have a 121p which was fine for home, rehearsal and gigs. Used to have a Markbass 15" extension speaker for larger gigs, but the band went through a huge PA, so I sold it.
 7. Two drumkits are for wimps. I used to be fan of Big Pig (Bill and Ted soundtrack if anyone doesn't know them). Don't think they'd fit in the local, though.
 8. Never ceases to amaze me how bands can spend hours and hours in rehearsal and then ruin it all by drinking before a gig. It's not only unprofessional, it's downright embarassing. If you're playing for free for a mate's birthday, fine... otherwise stick to orange juice. I've been in some bands where a member has had a serious drink problem... it's just a waste of time. Same people used to say that the drink makes them play better... that means they're so p****d they can't hear how bad it is. Rant over... carry on everyone.
 9. Drummer turns up with an electronic kit... I'm out!
 10. You're working 60 hours a week and you're wondering why you're tired? Obviously you get a whack of andrenaline when you're I stage... I've always found that the effect is more profound when you're feeing particularly knacked. If I've felt great I haven't noticed the stage high as much. Then you'll probably feel even worse when you come down the day after a gig.
 11.
This is a superb instrument, relieved it was a leftie; otherwise I'd be skint!
Very true. Beautiful example of a Warwick.
 12.
The flip side to this is what sort of band uses fake stacks on stage...
I am seriously impressed. I could stick my 12" inch Markbass combo behind that.
 13. You don't have to worry about heft, punch and oomph controls if you get a wallop pedal.
 14.
just fiddle with stuff until you get a sound you like
That's what I do.
 15.
You could ping back "what's your highest price?"
Glad you said that. Think I will say: make an offer. I suspect I may not hear from him again.
 16.
Not just when selling musical equipment, but when selling anything, the question I hate the most is "What's the least you'll take for it?" Why would a seller answer that question? If you want to buy it, make an offer. If your offer is acceptable, you've got a deal. If it's too low, the seller will tell you that, and he/she might tell you what he'd accept. And the negotiation can continue from there. When someone asks me "What's the least you'll take for it?" I know they're not a serious buyer - just a tyre kicker. Maybe it's just me though? Anyone else get pissed off by this question? Frank.
Funny that... I'm currently selling an Epiphone ES335 on Gumtree and have just been asked that question. Not sure whether to say make me an offer, original asking price only, or just ignore it. Truth is, for what I paid for it (brand new a few years ago) I could just as easily hang it in the wall and look at it. I want the space more than the money.
 17.
Yes, when you're playing with a full pro PA, sometimes the stage is the quietest place to be in the room.
This is my view of the conventional wisdom. I think I must have been quite lucky with most bands I've been in, because I've never considered it much of an issue. My last band, one of the guitarists was the stand in sound guy... he had a real handle on it. My only problem was the cymbal crashes, but I always liked to stand close to the drummer and I wore ear plugs.
 18.
Where does Oomph start and end, then?
Oomph is just below Whooomph, but just above Pfffft. Pfffft is the point where smoke comes out of your amp.
 19.
Thanks lads. I think they finally know that I am absolutely determined to follow through on leaving, if the situation arises.
Best of luck. If you have to leave then another one will come along. My view is that there is no such thing as a perfect band, just a perfect band for that moment in time.
 20.
Oh I know both situations exist, I was just pointing out that not every pro even at the lower levels are in blue's situation.
Actually I was trying to reply to Blue's point rather than disagreeing with you (which I don't). I should have quoted Blue, but it's a bit tedious to "spot quote" on an iPad. Next time I'll go upstairs and wake up Big Computer, although that requires an intensity of effort to which I am quite unused.
 21. D'Addario are usually my "go to", so that's probably why I quite like the Fender strings... might even stick with the, for a while.
 22. Actually, I have known band members living on the breadline in the UK. One of the reasons I quit the band, because they would do any gig just to get some money, whereas I had a full time job and couldn't gig up to four times a week. They were also fiddling their benefits, which I was uneasy with.
