Beyond A-Ha and Death/Black metal, Norway's music scene has a lot more to offer. Just been enjoying some Dagny after a recommendation on another thread. She's excellent as is Sigrid. Also Norway's home to some fine electronica such as seminal ambient electronica guru Biosphere, space disco merchant Prins Thomas, fellow part time collaborator Lindstrom, Norway's answer to The Chemical Brothers, Ugress, and the better known Royksopp. So, any other small countries you reckon are punching above their weight music-wise considering their small populations?

I like this a lot, as I do her fellow countrywoman Sigrid, whose voice isn't dissimilar. IMO pop's in quite a good place now, well female fronted pop anyway, what with these two, Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo.

Hope it's just a wind-up🤞

driving back home in the car today it's been pretty much wall to wall Goldfrapp. Here's the lovely Alison... -
Reminds me of a nightmare date I had when I was around 19. I'd taken this girl for a day out in London, thinking we'd be spoilt for choice for things to do. Anyway to every question of mine such as 'shall we go to the Madame Tussauds/London Dungeon....whatever' I got the same answer. 'I don't miiiiiind, whatever you liiiiiike'. Imagine this being said in quite a whiny, miserable voice, repeated ad nauseam. Later on in the day I opted we go to the movies in Leicester Square. So we did. Around half way through the film I needed a wazz so told her where I was going. On coming out of the toilets I peeked through the door into the theatre and the next thing I knew I was hightailing it to the tube station. I briefly stopped to ponder whether running away was the gentlemanly thing to do, decided 'f3ck it' and went on my merry way. So, running away is a good and well recommended solution to many problems and you shouldn't feel bad about it 🙃. I wonder if the Chinese or Japanese have made a martial art of it?

I've never been kicked out of a band but I have been in one where I was the only member left.

Have to agree then again I think this particular song is one of those done well by Dylan anyway. One of my fave songs to play when learning guitar

Too true. Often why I like to keep 'friendships' light and superficial. IMO it's best not to get to know people too well. Some long-standing former friends very dark sides came out over Brexit, revealing them to be small-minded, angry, deluded bigots that i couldn't recognise. -
Bob wrote many great songs....the best renditions being done by others as I think many would agree. This cracker came into my had today, out of the blue

G n R are one of those bands whose success and popularity has always puzzled me. Appetite sure is vastly overrated IMO, but Perhaps isn't half bad, not terrific but it's ok. It doesn't have me diving for the off button and it's certainly better than most rock songs I've heard from the last 10 years . Axl sings better here than on Sweet Child of Mine or Mr Brownstone.

Yep agreed. I rewatched LA Confidential a few days ago and still hugely enjoyed despite knowing why KS has been up in court for and, for that matter, about Russell Crowe's history of violent outbursts. Seems to me a substantial percentage of great/famous composers, musicians, actors, artists, sportsmen, philosophers, scientists, leaders, entrepreneurs etc have been pretty unsavoury at best and if we were to personally cancel all of them there wouldn't be many left. In general, I find I'm able to separate the artist etc from the person unless the person in question was/is a child abuser or rapist. -

99.999% of the music I've heard on Planet Rock just isn't my bag, in particular country rock and southern rock. But as in everything else in life there's an exception to the rule and in this case it's these guys. An excellent outfit from all the tunes I've heard e.g. these 3 cracker -

Thing is if we 'cancelled' everyone who had skeletons in their closet we'd all probably be lonely and friendless. I'm guessing we all have close friends who might have some dark secrets but if we knew about these we'd might unfriend them or at least become wary of them. As for musicians, writers etc I find it best just to enjoy what they do and not deep dive into their personalities. Often ignorance truly is bliss. -
Friend of mine's son has a BA in music and sound production and is making a very nice career for himself as a freelancer. Not sure of the details but he's in much demand and he's still only 21. From what he says it seems that's where the opportunities lie if you want to make a decent living

Typifies generally how low rap/hip hop has fallen since the mid 90s. Utter talent free dreck and Post Malone's not even the worst.

What do you think of this setlist?
Barking Spiders replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
they're eclectic lists that's for sure. If you're putting your own spin on each song to make them sound more like a cohesive set that's all to the good imo. IMO whether you can pull it off is dependent on if your singer(s) have the pipes to be able to pull off a tune like Levitating, especially the backing vocals. I'd drop Valerie as that's been done to death on the pub rock circuit but at least you're not doing Mr Brightside, Brown Eyed Girl, Sex on Fire or anything by Oasis. -

Can't stand Plant's vocals on the rawk/blues stuff. Not too bad on the more folky tunes. As for DP, it's Glenn Hughes' contribution I can't stomach. In fact his vocals in any band he's been in are the worst sort of histrionic. Then there's are cod operatic style of Rob Halford, RJ Dio and Bruce Dickinson...ay caramba!😣😱. And as for Brian Johnson's godawful racket in AC/DC! Geddy Lee's voice doesn't seem so bad now.
