  1. I happened to overhear my stepdaughter referencing a Soundgarden track playing on the radio (Jesus Christ Pose as it happens, on Planet Rock) as 'old people's music'. Make of that what you will 🙂
  2. I'm waiting for Bozo to find a way of claiming credit for the UK coming second
  3. He's get my vote over the Ethiopian entry
  4. Errm the' West' part of the world to be precise. Plenty of others that have either come out in support of Putin or who are sitting on the fence (for fear of upsetting Putin and the US)
  5. I take it we're talking about the 'Greensleeves' to Henry Purcell era?
  6. If ABBA can reform in their 70s, I guess ST II is totally in keeping with the times
  7. A right mismatch there in terms of musical prowess, e.g. Billy Preston had Louis Johnson, an all-time bass great, and the Rolling Stones fielded Bill Wyman.
  8. Ha ha praps not. Been following them for aeons as I'm a tad partial to this kind of 'world fusion', for want of a better word, having a similar vibe to Transglobal Underground, Afro Celt Sound System, Loop Guru etc. real good festival stuff.
  9. Then again, it's probably fair to say most people don't care for music that's heavily guitar-centric. With good radio exposure, IMO EoN would have broader appeal than Rush ever did
  10. Mrs Spiders mk3 was a huge fan, still is I'd guess, and often played her albums in the house. To my ears KBs singing was nails down a black/chalk board caterwauling while the music had too much prog about it for my tastes. I might view her more indifferently had I not been well overexposed to her music over the course of 13 years. Mind you my ex could do amusing note perfect impersonations of her singing.
  11. mostly in the States by the look of it and no top 30 singles in the UK, other than a duet with Aron Neville, which is why I'd never heard of her
  12. Next question, before I Google, who's Linda Ronstadt? I'll add the Glitter Band. IMO it's a shame they were tarnished by their former boss' shenanigans, with none of their songs since getting airplay.
  13. Listening to some of Stax, funk, Philly stuff it struck me that there are quite a few bands that started out as a house band for labels and got be to be successful in their own right. I'm thinking of Booker T and the MGs for starters. So, any other house bands or backing groups that did well for themselves without their leaders?
  14. Best thing I did as a newbie was get lessons on a dry slope a few weeks before doing it for real. Ok, the response of the brush isn't as fast as the piste but you get familiar with the key skills. Or there are Snozones around the UK. I only know the one at Milton Keynes.
  15. Well, I think it's a shoo-in Ukraine will win and the UK will continue to prop up the final table. I assume Russia's been banned as they have from all sporting competitions.
  16. The two founding members of Sphongle are Simon Posford and Raja Ram, who also made Goa/Psy trance under the names Hallucinogen and Infinity Project respectively. They're quite different from Shpongle though, more full on and upwards of 140 BPM, E'd up four to the floor bangers. Viz Sphongle, you can't go far wrong with any of their albums.
  17. Can't get enough of disco-funk from the late 70s/early 80s at the mo'. Here's a tidbit from The Kaygees, formed by the younger brother of Ronald and 'Kool' Bell of Kool and the Gang and mentored by Ronald. Unsurprisingly it sounds like early KATG.
  18. Ta dah!!!!! first time I've seen Shpongle mentioned on BC in many moons, well about 4 years whenever I joined. They do a great live show. Do you like the related Hallucinogen and the Infinity Project perchance?
  19. Here's an absolute dance floor stomper from War. Contrary to received wisdom I love their more disco phase than their earlier latino, jazz funk fusion.
  20. Ditto that! Skiing was one of my great passions. Dodgy knees has largely put paid to that
