When I'm occasionally wound up I like to put on Ty Cobb by Soundgarden crank up the volume and play along on either bass or drums. Total catharsis!. + 1 here for pretty much any STP track. I'd go for Plush, Trippin On a Hole..., Interstate love Song and Sour Girl.

I also had to re-read that. Couldn't believe my eyes that any self-respecting bassist would contemplate such a thing!!!

The interesting thing about Conway Twitty is the near total lack of body movement -

I took my missus to the MK Stadium gig. While she'd never heard their music and wouldn't choose to now she hugely enjoyed the gig. -

What about Rammstein? Not sure they'd have been quite right for the 100 Club -

Nah, plenty of time to fit in a few happy moments not liking things. But thing is he's an outstandingly charisma free performer considering he was in the entertainment industry. Yep, you don't need to do Dave Lee Roth high kicks but as someone said Lemmy just used to stand relatively still but still exuded charisma...and I'm not even a Motorhead fan! -

the Conway Twitty brand of country music is the absolute last. If they'd played any at Guantanomo alongside Barney the Dinosaur theme and Babylon by David Gray you'd admit to anything -

In some episodes of Family Guy they insert vids of this bloke called Conway Twitty who seems to've been a big country star in the 60s-70s. I'd never heard of him before but checking out clips on YT I have to see he comes over as the most uncharismatic performer I think I've ever seen. That said it might be because i was distracted by his bouffant hairdo. There are some performers whose music I care for not one jot but they have that 'something' about them that still makes you watch them. Just wondering about other charisma free singers etc that have still carved out a successful careers and also those with bags of charisma whose music is maybe not that great but who cares. -
I prefer this, the original, standing at a pithy 3.14 mins. IMO the LZ version goes on way too long without ever going anywhere, clocking in over 7 mins

Just got round to shelling out the wonga for Underworld's Drift box set having had to make do with streaming till now. It's just more greatness from the lads. It was on discovering them along with The Orb, Leftfield etc in the early 90s that I gave up on most new guitar band music after the Grunge phenom passed. -
Nipped into Cheltenham HMV for the first time in a year and was surprised at how much floor area is now taken up by LPs, maybe 2 or 2 times as much since I was last in. What surprises me is how much they're going for, £23 -30 a pop, ay caramba 😲 When CDs originally took over from vinyl I was more than happy to get shot of all those scratchy, warped platters and replace some of them with shiny, tiny, perfectly flat CDs. Unlike some I'm not bothered about sleeve notes, credits, photos...Even on fave albums, half the time I don't even know the names of fave tracks other than they're track # 2, 6 etc on the CD player display. But for just one LP I could get 3-5 CDs. Anyway, anyone here happy to mortgage their homes just to buy lots of vinyl, not forgetting the record player (are they called that any more?)

Nate Smith is a big inspiration for my own drumming. TBH I'd forgotten about the bass and was more focused in his playing. See, you don't need a big eff off kit a la Neil Peart to sound good on the skins.

Ha ha, I'd pay to go to a gig like that. Good value entertainment. Just wondering who most on-stage handbag antics tend to be between and is it mainly a rock thing?

this morning, as I work it's Wire's 154 album. IMO there are few bands who made such a cracking run of first three albums. Fave track from 154 is .. -

Funny thing is he co-wrote some great hits of the 90s dancefloor era such as 'It's A Fine Day' made a hit by Opus III and Lost Witness' Happiness Happening. -

Seems to me metal is possibly the worst for having so many ridiculous subgenres although electronica comes pretty close. That said, electronica is my go to listening 80% of the time and there's a big difference between say downtempo stuff which is for kicking back to and trance and House which are about the dancefloor. -
Two pages in and till now, no mention of Muttley McLad of The Macc Lads. Shame on you all 🙃

Hmm IMO having broader categories does help, esp when you're in HMV etc looking for such n' such but having sub-sub-sub genres like mathcore is getting silly. -
Are you good enough to play a Fodera?
Barking Spiders replied to Rayman's topic in General Discussion
Bottom (bass) line is that you can probably bet three quarters of people in a given audience can't tell a bass apart from a guitar, what its function in the band is, let alone what's a budget model and what's top of the range. My own good lady is a big music fan and while she can identify what to her are cracking bass lines (esp Suart Zender's in Jamiroquai) she had to ask why some of my instruments have 6 strings while others have 4 chunkier ones. And in no way is she a a couple of planks short. -
Larry Graham and Bootsy Collins both led their own bands and did the lead vocals. Looking at who everyone else has been mentioned, against general perception there are a helluva lot of bassists that are band leaders/front men and not some anonymous bloke lurking among the amps.

Yep I like me some Kyuss and White Zombie. Be fun to do More Human than Human. Bush were/are 'kin awful and very glad the yanks kept them over there. IMO the Grunge period was the first, best and last era for quality rock from the US. Definitely throw in some punk, esp a bit of Dead Kennedys -
considering who votes I'm certainly not a fan of the band or metal in general but I know enough to realise Judas Priest are a massive influence on the genre, second only to Sabbath, so I'm surprised to see them so low down. Kate Bush has been a big deal in many countries but not in the US. Too quirky and oddball for the Billboard mainstream, same with the homegrown Devo, NYD and MC5. Pat Benatar's radio-friendly, mainstream rawk probably fits the bill more. The one US band I think should be put in - that's if they're even remotely bothered which I don't think they would be -are Pixies. Like the Ramones (who are in), Pixies are also not as commercially big as big as those they've influenced. Grunge and the whole alt-rock scene owe them a debt.

My mum doesn't but some of my cousins' mum does. She patiently tried to teach me when I was 11 but I was a bored pupil that was more interested in hitting things, whether in the boxing ring or whatever made a great sound. So what you says resonates with me🙃
