  1. Never heard of Ayron Jones before but I'll sure be checking out some more. I too am a massive fan of the Seattle sound of late 80s-90s. Hew reminds me a bit of Filter
  2. I'm guessing it's because Free have never been a big band, in terms of album sales, and beyond Alright Now non-fans probably don't know much about them. Lots of people have heard of Flea partly because his band have shifted over 60 million albums and partly because he wears his undercrackers on stage or a sock over his lad.
  3. An all time fave of mine is this from the Junior Boy's Own label, which was formed by several big time dance music producers back in the 90s including Andrew Weatherall. The biggest acts were Underworld and The Chemical Brothers. The short lived Bocca Juniors were actually Weatherall, Terry Farley, Pete Heller and Hugo Nicholson. If you like the production on Primal Scream's Screamadelica, you might like this if you've never heard it before
  4. to be fair he might be able to shred like a monster if given free rein but his band mates might be a tad p1$$ed if he did go off on one midset
  5. You're telling me they managed a full half hour?😲
  6. Just as well I'm a part-time town cryer. I'll put this out to the local masses tomorrow morning
  7. Yikes that's some list of credits including Jacko's big 3. Explains why he inserts a bit of Thriller in his solo in that clip
  8. Here's George Duke and friends getting seriously funky. I generally hate solos but within this context they actually enhance the tune. Check out Louis Johnson on fire but also there's some lovely funky guitar going on
  9. Quickly legging it off the stage in the direction of the bar is my preferred option.
  10. Agreed. It doesn't matter how virtuosic a player is - as Richard Bona surely is - this kind of noodling grinds my gears as the Yanks say. Then again I do have an intense dislike of jazz in any form, especially electric fusion whatever. Right up there with prog as a load of self-indulgent bobbins. IMO that is before I get flamed. My clip of Louis Johnson a couple of pages shows how a bit showboating can be pulled off without boring the titz off me i.e. when the groove is still being maintained while it fits in nicely with the rest of the tune.
  11. If I could do it like this then I'd do it wherever and whenever possible however inappropriate and unasked for....🙃
  12. Nice stuff. Never heard of him till now. Really like his tone
  13. Pretty much down to Sterling by Musicman and Cort, of which I have two each, although I were to get a fifth bass it would deffo be a Sire M Series.
  14. yeah agree, they started on a high with the debut but in general subsequent albums got patchier. IMO Bleed Like Me is their second best as it has more good than poor tunes. Never liked Version 2 much despite its rep.
  15. Like it. Big fan of both ADF and Stewart Lee. I recall him doing this skit on Comedy Vehicle i think it was.
  16. Born Slippy wasn't the first banging slab of techno used as the main track in a Danny Boyle film. This cracker was used in Shallow Grave which gave a big step up for the careers of Chris Ecclestone and Ewan MacGregor.
  17. The Flea and Fieldy tones are pretty dire and I'm not mad about Macca's sound there. For me, Steve Harris's clanky galloping is about as bad as those.
  18. Hmm actually, I think this is the first year I've not bought a single new release. Last year I only bought Run The Jewels' fourth. I've listened to Fortitude several times online and while I applaud Gojira's environmental campaigning I find it patchy. IMO Magma is still their best by quite some margin, probably partly because of the clean vocals.
  19. I'm looking forward to the reforming of Brotherhood of Man with some tunes containing more suspect lyrics
  20. Not to mention issues of crippling self doubt, lack of worth, glaring into the void of hopelessness and putting their instruments up for immediate sale on Gumtree
  21. Thing is, what with kids learning/memory capacity being much greater than adults', if they start of 3 then by 10 they should be ready to go pro and so be able to pay for their board and lodging
  22. He's mega talented for sure but he's got to rein in the gurning. I just couldn't make it to the end of the vid as it was just too much.
  23. Sh1tty death, that's unreal. Possibly the most impressive youngster I've yet seen on a YT vid
