What are you listening to right now?

Nice one. Next on my to buy list๐ -
I had a similar argument with myself viz getting a 335 (my #1 choice of any guitar) or an Epi copy in natural finish. I've got an Epi Sheraton II. It's a heavy beast for a semi and initially the neck seemed a bit thick for my dwarf hands but now I'd never get shot of it. It's that good it's cooled off my ardour for the 335.

Culture Club last night 12/08/21 Audley End House

I probably like about 5-10% of the music in any show though I like the presenters, particularly Wyatt and his cymbals of appreciation. Danny Bowes seems ok as a person but I'm not a fan of his band's music and that style of hard rock. -

I keep coming back to Sigrid's 'Sucker Punch' album which I play obsessively. No need for autocue, an orange face and eyelashes like spiders legs Not -

They certainly were and the first two still get played to death on Planet Rock along with Alright Now, More Than A Feeling and Here I Go Again. I've often wondered if music artists have ever asked broadcasters not to play their songs to death for fear of a backlash -

Mrs Spiders MK1 has been a lifelong fan and when we were married she used to overplay CC albums way too much for my liking and turned my mild indifference into something like pathological dislike. Sorry to poop the positive party people. -
I've got around half a dozen Cure albums but their total output has been pretty inconsistent and can understand why people might not enjoy them and same goes for Joy Division and other post punk 'miserablists'. There are some gems among the Cure's albums but also some real duds. I'd put Disintegration at around #3 or 4 and but definitely place 17 Seconds at #1.

It's odd how none of the original / first wave punk bands wore tartan bondage trahsis, had mohawk hair dos etc. Being the pendant that I am ๐, it's an error to call the punk hairdo of choice a Mohican. In the fillum Last of the Mohicans, it was the Hurons led by Magua that had that hairstyle. Chingachook and Uncas who are Modhicans don't.

Ah, you're from the US. They are/were an alternative pop band who were big in the UK in the 90s. I guess their sound wouldn't travel much outside the UK. As with many other UK bands, they had a very British sound and lyrics that wouldn't mean much to anyone outside the UK.

Excluding divas (who can actually sing but tend to lose all self control) for me Rose's vocals are down there with Geddy Lee and the bloke from the Beautiful South for me wanting to drop kick the radio into the neighbour's garden any time they come on.
-
Nah they weren't punk as such. They had two or three handful of punkish singles but were really at the start of the new wave thing along with Dury, Costello, XTC etc

At the moment I'm checking out Weezer stuff other than the blue album and Pinkerton. Still love the former while the latter grew on me over time but they fell off my radar after that. They subsequently received a loads of hate so I'm now going through the rest of their albums to see if any of it was deserved.

I'm going against the grain here and say I didn't mind it, it's ok but then other than Paradise City and Welcome to the Jungle I can't stand the rest of AFD . I may be in a minority here who detests Sweet Child of Mine. Absurd isn't a great song by any stretch but I quite like the punky vibe as my taste in rock largely leans towards punk influenced bands.

which kinda leads to this...

Another fan of the lovely Sigrid on BC . Just picked up her album today in HMVon the strength of this and Strangers. In a righteous and just world she should be as big as Taylor Swift.

Changing tack slightly, who are fave musicians of yours from the post punk and alt-rock genres, not just bass players but other instrument geezers. Many of the electric guitar players I like and rate as being original and recognisable are from bands in these genres e.g. John McGeogh (Magazine, SATB), Johnny Marr, Terry Bickers (House of Love), Joey Santiago (Pixies), Geordie Walker (Killing Joke), Graham Coxon (Blur), Andy Gill (Gang of 4). I much prefer these guys to the conventional 'classic rock' 'guitar heroes' who always get trotted in out in 'greatest' polls. Drumwise there've been great and often overlooked players like Pete de Freitas (Echo ATB), Budgie (SATB), Chris Sharrock (Icicle Works) and Big Paul Ferguson (Killing Joke). A lot of great bass players have been mentioned a lot over the years so I wont say any more about them. So, bring 'em on.

I've been playing Chairs Missing by Wire several times over the last couple of days. It really is a cracking album and one of the few I'd give 10/10 to, not a single filler track and full of variety but still cohesive. Hard to choose a fave track but here's a contender

I think it might even be a first for R4, certainly whenever I've been listening from time to time over the last 20 odd years.

I've currently got serious GAS for another semi-acoustic /semi-hollow body guitar in addition to my Sheraton. Particularly looking for a single cut with a hard tail and have my eye on an Ibanez Artcore AGS73FM in natural and a D'Angelico Premier DC in champagne. It might be heresy to admit it but of late I've been playing my Sheraton a lot more than my basses. I love drumming too but we don't have enough room for multiple kits around the house.

Indeed not and I speak as a big fan of Joy Division. I've got lots of time for Hooky but he seemed an odd choice.

The Beatles music WILL be heard in 1,000 years!
Barking Spiders replied to SteveK's topic in General Discussion
The key word is RAPID. In the past changes took '000s of years not merely decades. I'm not looking to get into a debate. I've attended conferences on how CC will impact on the built environment and the evidence for man-made CC is irrefutable. I'll leave it there. -
He was a great drummer, with sheer power and stamina. I've read he had some long-standing condition that affected his legs, which is why he left Slipknot. As sad loss nevertheless at just 46.

But they didn't have to deal with rapid climate change. In the past, prophecies weren't based on science but on religion and superstition. In my line of work (civil engineering) we have to factor in the impact of climate change and keep up to date with the latest scientific findings and it's not looking good. -
