  1. Yep, one of the most irritating and very repetitive longish 'songs' ever
  2. I'd probably put Glenn Hughes at the top of my list for worst offenders among male rock singers. I don't like his, or Coverdale's, vocals in Deep Purple Mk3, but worse are those on Black Country Communion and Dead Daisies tunage. I don't hear enough dynamic range, compared to rock vocalists like Layne Staley, Mike Patton or DP mk1 Ian Gillan
  3. Yep and that's why I can't fkin stand it either. Dreadful stuff
  4. On PR a track by Smith/Kotzen has just been on. It's not a bad tune and Adrian Smith's vocals are fine but Ritchie Kotzen rivals Glenn Hughes for that bombastic/histrionic way of over-singing, which has me diving for the off button. Of course, pop's chock full of divas who over-sing like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and so on but I choose not to listen to whatever stations play that stuff. Trouble is there are loads of rock vocalists who sing/sang this way like the bloke in Queensryche and RJ Dio. Just wondering where the BC massive is on this. I expect many will disagree but I won't cry.
  5. I'd liked to have blindfold tested BCers on this thread to guess who played this track. I think people would have immediately said Average White Band. Hard to think it's the same group who played on songs like Leader of The Gang!
  6. Yesterday I picked up a Glitter Band greatest hits for £3. Bargain! When I was around 9 or 10 I used to nick my older sister's Glam 45s which included a lot of GB tunes. And they're mostly top quality pop-rock. It's such a shame they've been tarnished by their former employer's rep that they no longer get any airplay. I think this was their biggest hit
  7. The other day I stopped off in the village of Honiley, which is not far from Kenilworth in Warks. Much to my dismay there's no Blue Plaque for Puff the magic dragon. I asked a local where Puff might've lived but I was met with a look of confusion and bewilderment. I've a feeling he's keeping it secret or I've made a mistake. I'm a mite frustrated songsters are misleading listeners with erroneous geographical information. Take this Susan Quattro as one of the perps. Try Googling Devil Gate Drive and nowt comes up. Maybe it's been renamed something, like Acacia Avenue. Praps a BCer lives on it and can clear up the confusion?
  8. Viz the Babylon Zoo and the Stiltskin ads, the problem was they used the best bits of each tune, while the main parts with the vocals aren't up to the quality of the snippets
  9. Sometimes TV ads get knocked for misuse of certain well known pieces of music. Conversely, if you don't listen to music radio they can be a great way of discovering songs that might become faves. Here's four of the bat for me which have become big faves but were it not for the ads I'd never heard of three of these groups. Let's go... First up, So Easy by Royksopp, used in a 2002 T-Mobile ad Next, Bohemian Like You by the Dandy Warhols used in this 2007 Vodafone ad Next, I was already a Leftfield fan but only heard Phat Planet for the first time on this seminal 1998 Guinness ad This last tune is called Zoraide by Cairobi, which was used on Halford's 2014 christmas 'Nothing beats a bike' ad
  10. Back in the day PJ were pretty wild live. Not for them shoegazing!
  11. When I actually did gig a lot back in my 20s and 30s I only ever had one bass, an Aria Pro II Integra. Back then I had no attachments or responsibilities but also not a lot of money. Most of my earnings went on booze, other stimulants and travel leaving not much for anything else. This saw me through around 350 gigs in all. My collection only increased when I was earning more disposable income but actually had less time for playing in bands on a regular basis. At one point I had 8 but am now down to 3. As I'm unlikely to be ever gigging much again it was easy to come to the decision to sell off the others.
  12. The only time I was really disappointed was G3 at the NIA Brum , 2004 I think it was. I'm also a big Martin Simpson fan and once saw him at Folk by The Oak with some American guy. Too much of him and not enough of MS.
  13. I play drums, mostly funk-style, ripping off the likes of Zigaboo Modeliste, Jabo Starks, Clyde Stubblefield etc. However, I've become a real sucker for drummers like Tomas Haake (Messhugah), Mario Duplantier (Gojira), Dave Lombardo, Brann Dailor (Mastodon) and Jay Weinberg (Slipknot). Check this out
  14. Here are some by the ladies. Take this gem from Carly Simon 'You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht/Your hat strategically dipped below one eye, your scarf it was apricot' . Then again how many songs contain 'strategically'? Now this from Mariah Carey is well lame - I'm like a bowl of gumbo/You ain't hotter than this, I'm what they play in the clubo' from erm 'Dont Stop' And we cant forget Madge. 'I don't like cities but I like New York/other places make me feel like a dork' (I love New York)
  15. Listen to many songs and it's a tad squirm-inducing the way words have been crowbarred in, with the helping of a hefty steel-capped boot, to create a rhyming couplet. Sting has been responsible for a fair few mebbe this being the most pseud... 'It's no use, he sees her, He starts to shake and cough/Just like the old man in That book by Nabokov' (I've not read any Nabokov so this goes over my head) And there's this gem from Rhythm is A Dancer by Snap: 'I’m serious as cancer / when I say rhythm is a dancer'. Nice! Duran Duran have penned several WTFs, praps best known being ' And fiery demons all dance when you walk through that door / Don’t say you’re easy on me, you’re about as easy as a nuclear war'. I take Simon Le Bon's word for it that nuclear wars aren't ..erm...that easy. But Noel Gallagher has to take gold for beauts such as.. 'Slowly walking down the hall, Faster than a cannonball / Where were you when we were getting high?' (Champagne Supernova) 'She’s got a sister, and god only knows how I’ve missed her/On the palm of her hand is a blister' (She's Electric) Cause I've been standing at the station, In need of education in the rain /You made no preparation For my reputation once again The sink is full of fishes/She's got dirty dishes on the brain / And my dog's been itchin', Itchin' in the kitchen once again (Some Might Say) bring 'em on..
  16. Today it's been Gojira's From Mars to Sirius this being a live version of From The Sky and this by Amon Tobin well different from his darker, cinematic, twisted drum n'bass Ninja Tune days it being very ambient
  17. quite a few electronica/dance acts have gone under several aliases e.g. Future Sounds of London record and perform under 30+ including Amorphous Androgenous KLF went under the names of Justified Ancients of Mu Mu and The Timelords Underworld have recorded as Lemon Interrupt Dave Lee (real name) is better known as Joey Negro, Jakatta and Sunburst Band and also has about 14 other aliases.
  18. All interesting and encouraging to hear so I've decided to keep plugging away, so long as I can find like-minded people to gig with once relative normality returns to the world!
  19. OK so he's not a band but Garth Brooks went under the pseudonym Chris Gaines to make a rock album so as not to alienate his country fans. Ha, it was considered relatively unsuccessful as it only went 2 x platinum in the US rather than the normal 8+ x platinum his country albums normally sell at.!
  20. While it's not a question you're not meant to ask ladies, it doesn't really matter viz blokes 😁, so, Covid-19 restrictions notwithstanding, who's gigged at the age of 55 plus? If yes you have, what's the general profile of the crowds you play to? I ask this as I miss gigging but as I've now pushed past 50 I'm deciding whether to persevere or knock any notion of ever playing live again on the head.
  21. A doctor writes: - No, this is a very rare, abnormal condition for which you'll need to see a specialist. In the meantime I'll prescribe you a week's supply of Graham Central Station
  22. I dislike most jazz but I like Enter Sandman so why wouldn't I check out the thread? I just find the cover in the OP intensely dull
