  1. Go on wiki and there are track by track credits. There are lots of musicians credited on Future Nostalgia and on 6 of the 11 tracks bass players are credited but it's true none are on Don't Start Now .
  2. Yep this apology of a crunkcore band whatever, Brokencyde, were a signed band have made singles and albums. I guess we can all find shyte amateur covers bands
  3. Usually I try to find some merit in stuff that's not my bag. In jazz, prog, fusion and metal I appreciate the high levels of instrumental skill. With the likes of Mariah Carey, Whitney et al I know they can actually ding. However, by chance I've just come across some American youth called Brokencyde and this abortion of a record. I won't abuse the word 'song' or 'tune' by applying them here. BE WARNED. I doubt anyone here will have heard anything quite this bad. If you have please put it up for our delectation. Fortunately, we in the UK have been spared this pollution while a quick Google shows this lot are justly and widely reviled in the States.
  4. Yes I posted this on another thread. IMO the versions year are actually better than the studio recordings
  5. Yes point taken, though there are a few more out there that buck the trend of serial awfulness. I'm thinking of Olivia Rodrigo who has a song out called 'Driving license' which I think is quite a novel approach to a love song. There's also The Weeknd who's made some decent tunes plus Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake who are not averse to a good song. TBH when I watch some reruns of TOTP from the 60s to 90s or listen to Absolute radio, 90%+ of the chart stuff back then was dire. Far more dispiriting are many more recently formed rock bands you can hear on Planet Rock, recycling 70s-80s e.g. the Pretty Reckless, Brothers Osborne, Beth Hart, Halestorm, Greta van Fleet .....
  6. I've recently been caning Dua Lipa's cracking new album Future Nostalgia and unlike so much contemporary pop it actually features lots of musicians playing 'proper instruments'. Furthermore there are some tasty basslines going on. Here's Julia from Thomann demonstrating some of them
  7. It is at that but I actually prefer the more stripped back sound on this vid. Also she's best on her own with backing singers. Her collaborations with others don't show her in the best light. The version of Levitating here is mercifully shorn of the inappropriate nay cr@p rap in the middle of the studio version. I've heard too many potentially good pop songs ruined by rap solos. They've become as obligatory in pop as widdly guitar solos have long been in rock
  8. Yep, the mrs and teen daughters rip the p1$$ out of me as I've got a soft spot for Dua Lipa. I like the husky ish edge to her vocals and she comes across as very grounded and easygoing. And then the tunes, which I generally enjoy leading off this vid with Levitating. Nice work from all concerned; DL, the guitar players and the ace harmony vocalists.
  9. Likewise. You could always rely on the Half Moon to put on good bands. Remember MM had a great singer . I think he was called Noel but cant remember his surname. Jim Mullen inspired me to throw away my guitar pick as he used to play with his fingers.
  10. This takes me back to the days of rave in the early 90s. Cracking Underworld remix
  11. Lots of progressive.........................house/trance, topped by this toppermost tune by Way Out West
  12. Nice work there! Great showcase for LJ's skills.
  13. I'd give that clip 10 Likes if it were poss. That's why he's my all time fave bass player. Only problem with that clip, the audience looked dead from the nack down. Sure there were chairs but they they're for standing on!
  14. Never that fussed about Odyssey but IMO Chic's classic era for others is equal to their own tunes , Certainly have never had much time for Diana Ross' vocals and diva personality but this is a stone cold classic
  15. Dunno if any of you guys are familiar with the very fine Fila Brazillia, whose eclecticism covers many bases not least jazz tinged funkiness like this...
  16. This is the thing. I know the woods and components used in US-made Stingrays are better than Indonesian made SUB Ray 4s, but not by a factor of 8 - 10 as the price difference suggests. If I was a professional player then I'd go for the real deal but as I'm a hobbyist and occasional dep player I can't justify it.
  17. I have a Peavey Cirrus BXP, a Cort GB64 and Sterling SUB Ray 4, all made in Indonesia. Got absolutely no beef with the quality of workmanship at all. In fact I'm not sure why some players still have a bias towards US and European-made.
  18. Considering arrangements for big festivals tend to begin once the previous ones finish 4-6 months doesn't give much time for organisers even if the all-clear was given now.
  19. This cracker is from one of my top five best rock albums of the 80s . Just totally different from owt before or since! I always thought of it as Twin Peaks on vinyl
  20. Viz For The Love of Money IMO it's best played with a pick through a phase pedal to get the necessary attack and the ghost notes are essential for getting it right. I'd also recommend and
  21. Flipping things over you can get some buyers who really are annoyingly, nay pathetically @n@l about the tiniest imperfection. A few months ago I sold a very well looked after Ibanez electric guitar via EBay for less than half the price I bought it. Advertised as 'like new' I checked it over in minute details, could see no scratches and spent an hour cleaning it and packing it safely. A couple of days after the buyer got it I had a message saying expressing his disappointment that it wasn't 'like new' as there was a 'hairline scratch' near the neck pickup. He attached a photo which I expanded but still could see nowt. He must've used an electron microscope to look for flaws or mebbe the Hubble telescope. I mean he'd already knocked me well down on the price until it was cheaper than all other copies of the same model. People eh?
  22. Due to having towear specs for reading now, for a moment I thought this was a tune by someone called Nigel Hitler
  23. While I work I have Planet Rock in the background, not because I'm a fan but it's like aural flock wallpaper and blocks out extraneous sounds. If I have Five Live on I get distracted while stations like Heart, Radio 1, Smooth FM are not for my demographic. Radio 4 is just dull mostly. I digress. Hearing some song called Working Class Man by some bloke called Jimmy Barnes reminded me this theme of working (class) men has become a bit of a cliche in rock music. You don't hear Lady GaGa or Dup Lipa singing about proletarian women. Just Googling this, I've come up with Working Man by Rush, Blue Collar Man by Styx, Working Man by Imagine Dragons, Diary of a Working Man by Blackfoot, Working Class Hero by Green Day, Hard Workin Man by Brooks & Dunn, Workin Man by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band,... I've yet to come across a song about a hedge fund manager or chartered accountant. Maybe someone should come up with songs about white collar workers. So, are there any other themes that've been done to death and what would you like to hear about instead? Over to you...
  24. Being a major Larry Graham fan I find it quite useful to have a bunch of his stuff in one place
