  1. errm, not really. Didn't get any of that at all from the lyrics
  2. I just had to Google this line and have a listen on YT. I gave up 40 seconds in but have read the masterful lyrics but I'm confused. I take it this this diver is having a night-time dip in the old briny. I'm a bit worried s/he's been down too long and so is at risk from the bends. But s/he must be ok as before you know it s/he's riding some tiger. If the tiger's also been for a paddle maybe that's why it's clean. Quite right, nobody in their right mind would choose to ride an unclean tiger. Not too sure I like this hiding in the sun bit, not unless s/he's covered in SF50. Sounds a tad risky to me. Anyway, back to this diver. S/he's now gone to a masquerade, probably getting there by clean tiger, which s/he then jumps on again probably to get away from the masquerade because s/he's not too comfortable being the star. Think that makes sense, kinda.
  3. 👍 to Dagan from PMT TV. Although it's clear he's mainly a guitarist he has a good presentational style and has put up some good 'shows' on great cheap/budget basses and guitars
  4. A few years ago I lost interest in playing bass, guitar and the drums. This coincided my growing dislike of rock music and temporary loss of interest in funk. Instead I became far more interested in electronica. It was only listening to Squarepusher that reinvigorated my love of the bass. I generally still can't abide rock music but have discovered loads of other interesting electronica /dance where the bass is used such as Groove Armada.. So, maybe you also might have become bored with the music you're playing and listening to but just need to find something new to revive your interest in the bass . I'm with the others here saying buying a new bass isn't the answer.
  5. Yup, that's it. I get quite a buzz out of researching and shortlisting stuff and often nowt comes of it but I've had the hit. Could be musical instruments, hols, cars, bikes, boots, drills. The processes are the same.
  6. Had to cut and paste this load of old horlicks into Google to find out the guilty parties and again it's Black Sabbath, ay caramba😩
  7. I'm a big fan of slap (in the right place.... i.e. funk and errm some 80s pop) but this is most definitely not the right place
  8. I like the nifty way they rhyme 'Hersham boys' with 'cockney cowboys'. It's right up there with this little peach, 'Generals gathered in their masses, Just like witches at black masses'. 👌
  9. Keeping my spirits up against the onslaught of moody/angsty female teens with this cracking live version of Burning Down The House. I've already played it 5 times today it's so uplifting!
  10. OK, the bass should never be played in a bass duet anymore than there should be kazoo players trading licks. Sorry but I found the whole performance technically efficient but soulless and dare I say a bit robotic.
  11. Right now it's Venq Tolep by Robag Whrume who makes electronica that would fit in with the Warp stable. So if you like stuff such as Plaid, Mouse on Mars etc this should fit the bill.
  12. The thing for me is, the bass should never be played as a solo instrument anymore than the triangle or kazoo
  13. Nope, I'm way off happy. I want a StingRay in natural ash but I cant justify shelling out £2k + to the mrs or meself TBH. I've only two basses at the mo' including a Sub Ray 4. I'm eyeing up a Ray34 though, which I guess I could happily settle for. Nowt else really appeals anywhere near as much .
  14. Errrmmm...hmmmm...not sure what to say or think really. 'Bizarre' about sums it up for me
  15. Seems David Byrne and friends have been there and were clearly disappointed with the lack of visitor attractions and cultural events in said Tyneside town, bemoaning this fact in their tune off Talking Heads' sophomore album Fear of Music, 'Hebburn'. 'Hebburn Hebburn is a place A place where nothing Nothing ever happens'
  16. Larry Graham is one of my fave players evah and this here is one's he's associated with. There's a lot going for it but the white fingerboard!
  17. This. GG have always been the only 'prog' band I like. Not for them tales of goblins and wizards, capes and all that bobbins. While a lot of prog to me sounds contrived, pompous and forced, GG had a natural, offhand, casual cool about their musicality and virtuosity and a sense of fun! Beats me how their lesser peers went on to hit the big time and they didn't.
  18. Herewith is the ultra-sappy 'I've never been to me' First she starts off saying she's been to Georgia and California -not mentioning specifically which parts but that's by the by. I've been to Rhyl and Clacton but it's not worth putting in song. Then she says 'Oh, I've been to Nice and the isle of Greece'. This is where we know she's telling utter porkies about her travel adventures. If she'd really ever been to Greece she'd know that it's bordered to the north by Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria and to the east by Turkey.
  19. Billy Joel states in his defence that 'we didn't start the fire' when in fact two of his accomplices are doing stretches in San Quentin for arson
  20. Sting may've been a teacher but clearly he never taught physics as he doesn't understand the impact of gravity and lack of said force on the human body or otherwise he'd know his legs would most certainly not break if he was to walk on the moon However, he was a seer of sorts when he advised his pupil to socially distance herself from him while in the classroom
  21. Dunno why but in the last hour naff pop tune The Lion Sleeps Tonight has been worming its way into my ear. This is a song that peddles misinformation inferring that lions live in the jungle but as any fule kno, the habitat of lions is grassland, savannah, dense scrub and open woodland. Open woodlands are no jungle tho'! Now if they'd sung 'in the jungle... the tiger/panther/jaguar sleeps tonight' that would've been better. Fleetwood Mac are woefully ignorant of the fact that thunder often happens during dry conditions and not just when it's raining. The lyric should read 'Thunder often occurs when it's raining'. What other song lyrics are factually incorrect
  22. and fortunately many Oasis and other Brit-Pap CDs now find themselves residing on the shelves in your local branch of Age UK, rubbing shoulders with Dido's No Angel and assorted Katie Melua albums
  23. ...and what other musicians have had long and illustrious-ish careers but have only ever owned/played just one or at most 2 or 3 instruments of any kind?
  24. An indie type band I was in submitted a couple of tapes to JP but were rejected as we didn't have a shed to record in but had to make do with the outside khazi round the back of my mate's nan's house
  25. The EBMM Stingray is hands down my #1. Tim Comerford's has the edge on Josephine Wiggs' cos of the finish. Quite like Doug Wimbish's Spector though I'm not a big Spector fan. Not sure when this vid was put together but Ian Hill from Judas Priest needs to gen up on his erm.. geog or 20th century European history as Czechoslovakia is no longer 😏, certainly not when I was last there two years ago.
