  1. I once took my teen daughter to see JT live and to be fair he put on a very good show and the fella can actually sing as well as write is own songs. Talentwise I'd say he's several notches above KM. I've nothing against pop and recognise there are some performers who do what they do very well and without the need for autotune or the help of pro songwriters. When there was all that palaver about Jay Z and Kanye West headlining I wasn't one of those getting all irate. Rap is the most popular genre worldwide and they're its two biggest stars. I'm not bothered about KM having the legend slot, just surprised.
  2. I'm a hardcore funk fan of many years with an extensive funk CD collection. I know the basslines to many funk tunes like the back of my hand and TBH if anyone covering these weren't playing them note perfect I'd find it jarring. Fr'instance I watched Chic's set from Glasto and I simply didn't like Jerry Barnes playing on seminal tunes. He's a quality player but here he threw in extra notes and put in some slaps where there should've been spaces.
  3. Cant say I'm really 'upset' as I don't give a monkeys about Glastonbury. Never been there, don't want to ever go there. I was more questioning her status as 'legend' . As far as I can see she started out as one of SAW's pop poppets and has pretty much followed the same path ever since.
  4. hmm as some peeps have already correctly pointed out the thread is about comparing the most commercially successful incarnations of a band with others that you may think are better. It's not about bands with the same line-ups who've had great and lean periods. So yes to Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC and The Human League but no to U2, Ramones etc
  5. I've always considered Danni 100 x more sexually appealing than her sister and never the got the fuss about K's 'ar$3. I prefer more of a booty on tha ladies. Anyway, I digress. So, KM is slotted into Glasto's sunday afternoon 'legend' spot next year. When i heard the news I had to check to calendar to make sure I hadn't done a Rip van Winkle and it wasn't 1 April. I know a lot of blokes will go on about her so called award winning jacksie but the simple fact is her' vocals are thin and nasal and most of the disposable fluff she's come out with was written by supposedly professional songwriters. So, does anyone among us ageing geezers think she is a 'legend' and deserving of the slot?
  6. A recent re-run of a christmas edition of TOTP on BBC4 featured the Human League miming Don't You Want Me Baby. I've never really cared for the mark 2 line-up, mainly because of the cr@p vocals of the 2 girls. Definitely prefer the more experimental line-up of the original band. So, who here thinks the Fleetwood Mac of Peter Green is way superior to the Buckingham-Nicks years. Would you give the nod to Syd Barrett PF over the megaselling incarnation. Were Deep Purple better as a psychedelic crew than a metal band? And any others . Bring 'em on. I'm only talking about comparing mk1 with mk2, mk3 etc line-ups not bands where they mostly kept the same members but which changed styles
  7. Best is my Cort GB74 from Bass Direct. At only around £400 it was a snip considering what a quality piece of kit it is. Worst? nowt really. I'm pretty rigorous and @n@l when It comes to spending money 😊
  8. Soz IM fans but to my ears they're one of the worst perps viz pointless by rote widdling and cod operatic warbling, two of the worst musical sins. And I really dislike the bass playing cos of the constant galloping technique and the rattling trebly tone.
  9. I think I know the post you mention. A particular sub-species of human I despair of are internet conspiracy theorists, the sort who infer that thousands of scientists around the world have colluded to play a huge hoax on the world's population viz climate change. Often i find myself wishing for an asteroid to come crashing into Earth so a few thousand years into the future, life can start again. You Tube is possibly the worst outlet for the many pathetic trolls who feel the need to disparage anyone who tries to do anything with their lives. I certainly wouldn't post vids of myself playing bass etc.
  10. I like the last track and a lovely bass line and tone going on there. Some nice work on the Joannas too but the drumming was a bit meh IMO and the drum faces irked me too. Soz.
  11. With you there all the way. Music's about writing and/or performing tunes not onanism with a bass/guitar substitute! I've seen some of this guy's vids and yes he's technically advanced but unless this can be replicated in a band in front of an audience it's pointless.
  12. a christmas like the Kris Marshall character has in Love Actually 😛
  13. They are at that. In the many gigs I've been to there's always been a mass exodus to the khazi or bar when a full on drum/bass/guitar solo is about to erupt. One of the many things I dislike about jazz is the way players typically take turns to do their thing whether its parping, widdling or banging away interminably. Solos really are a case of 'yeah so what, you can play but boy you're boring the t1tz off us!'
  14. Currently back on a downtempo trip with this possibly the best of the excellent DJ Kicks series, slightly edging out The Thievery Corporation.
  15. That Moby Richard drum solo. one of the most boring ever. Nearly all drum solos are boring even if technically impressive,. And I speak as someone who is primarily a drummer. I don't have Sky but would be interested in this programme.
  16. Is bitter on the way out d'ya think? I ask this as there's been quite a visible change in stocks on the shelves in all the supermarkets. Much more in the way of craft IPAs in 33cl can and bottle formats but fewer of not just bitters but also darker ales around 5%?
  17. As a kid The Buzzcocks meant much more to be than the Pistols and The Clash. and PS was underrated as a solo artist esp his Homosapien album. RIP Pete Shelley
  18. all brands of IPA available in the UK for a Yule long tasting session 🍻
  19. They're one of the those bands whose attitudes and politics I like but generally not the music. There were a couple of tunes from their very early days i used to quite enjoy but little else. Still, they're 1000 times better than any English jangly guitar merchants anyone should care to name
  20. Is this a first time mention of Venetian Snares on BC? I've recently come across a whole bunch of stuff on French ambient electronica label Ultimae by way of Carbon Based Lifeforms. Over the last last coupla weeks I've not been able to get enuff of AES Dana, especially...
  21. Give me Mongolian camel coaxing rituals anyday over the (Peter) tosh that is reggae!
