okkk... some hope there... i will look for some other sizes... this is a Chinese made Telecaster btw 2012 i believe...

Is it possible that a Fender bass would have a non standard sized truss rod? I put the alan key i use for other basses and it just falls in without grip as if it’s bigger or smaller… bit confused. Basically are all truss rods the same on any model and does the description above sound like the truss rod is broken? Peace and thank you D

Today I've destroyed the tip of my left middle finger.
DDR replied to Jackroadkill's topic in General Discussion
Hey Jack 8 years ago I was operated on my left (fretting hand) index finger tip to remove a melanoma (skin cancer). They replaced my nail and part of my index finger with skin from my arm. I was very afraid and frustrated, but, while there are some technical things I can't really do with that finger I am still playing bass and drums and enjoying a lot. You'll adapt to find a way around it I'm sure. Sending you peacefulness and positivity 💫 Dave -

I got one of these, fell for it ... Managed to step out right at the end but had to cancel all my cards... Annoying but quite obviously a scam.. was not thinking straight

so do you literally put the whole string in a boiling pan of water on the stove? How long for?

What about the whole boiling them thing? I think I heard it first from Mike Mondesir. Supposedly gets the zing back. Anyone tried that?

Thanks everyone, so it looks like mostly we're saying they're good for the money, good and reliable for live if you need amplification, some don't like how they look. Barefaced might be better for some but it's down to taste (they certainly seem to hit the lighter spot) but generally, for the money they seem pretty decent. I'm recording valve di usually so the reliability of a live show where I'm not on iem is the one... I appreciate your time!

Interesting. What are you using now if I may ask?

Hey, So my gallien krueger mb112 is turning out to be pretty unreliable, and I'm looking to get a light 15" cab to go with my Ampeg portaflex 500 head. I'm in Europe otherwise I'd be hitting up Barefaced. I'm looking at Thomann.. lots of mark bass options around 15kg. I'm wondering because I always heard great bass players I worked with and that I respect hating on Mark bass. Any info on what that's about? Is it still a thing? Any thoughts on why I shouldn't get a mark bass cab? Thanks!

Very nice! PJ is the way 👌

As a drummer who used to frown at a bassist with more than 4 strings but now plays bass in many different contexts, it's interesting to note that the low B appears to be very useful. Not sure why the subject is prone to debate

for those with a budget this is the one i’d go for if i could

There was someone selling one of those Stingrays here for 1800 with mono case... I was looking at loans... If it's still there....

Hey Billy Yeah, I tried the P5R, V5R (with the 24 frets) first because this was my budget. I generally felt pretty uncomfortable with the 5 strings there but was surprised to feel more comfortable on the V than the P. I also felt the soundscope was more vibrant... I guess just brighter 😉 Then I picket up a couple of Music Mans there. Kinda wish I hadn't. The second one was this one : https://www.andertons.co.uk/music-man-stingray-special-5-bass-guitar-frost-green-pearl-electric/ I swear I suddenly started playing like I'd been playing 5 strings all along! Had to run out of there 😔 This p5 was really cheap as B stock at Thomann and even though I hadn't gotten on with the P5R so well I decided to risk it and just put my fingers to work. I found it surprisingly good today though. I'd love a Mercalli obvs but more than twice as expensive. I know everyone says this but I think this sire P for the money is crazy good and if I decide to keep it can always upgrade the hardware so....

An almost reluctant but inevitably enjoyable NBD. I have a gig coming up in October that I need a 5 string for... I could have probably got away with a 4 tuned DGCF but... I thought it was time to get to grips with this. Of course I went to a nice store in Guildford where I tried all the 5s and the most comfortable and best sounding one was about 2K out of my budget so, after crying, I walked out the store kind of hurt inside and went home to ponder. I found that bass here second hand only 1K out of my budget but I still couldn't justify it... This time with less outside tears but more internal turmoil I went and bought the cheapest-good 5 string I could find in Europe and this morning it arrived. I have to say, I've been feeling pretty good about it so far. The plan is to learn and then, if it is that 5 strings is the way for me go I'll find myself in Guildford again with the holy grail of 5 that I'd tasted that day. Happy learning days Peace 🕊️
