1. VM Squiers are good. Do they do fretless? My VM Jazz was better than the MIM, so would save you a few quid.
2. A headless model?
3. I tried some Epiphones. Didn't like them. Still have to try a genuine Gibson bass.
4. Generally the valve in V1 is the one that changes the sound/tone of the amp. The others are generally irrelevant
5. At the moment I use a Hartke Bass Attack pedal into M-Audio Pro interface into PC and Shure headphones.
6. Competent guitarist. Played bass on my demos. Formed a band with another guitarist, filled in until a bassist could b found. Ended up lumbered. As much as I like playing guitar, the only way I have played in bands for 20 years has been on bass
7. Squier VM 70s Jazz Harley Benton SC P-Bass Westfield P-Bass I found at council skips. Hoping to do up for Ramones tribute band
8. Most of my fave bass sounds are from players who use a P-Bass, yet my fave sounds from me are with a J-Bass. Or so I thought. When I went back to my Harley Benton shortscale P-Bass, I figured my finger-playing sounded much the same as with the J-Bass. I figure its all subjective and down to confidence in your playing and your instrument.
9. Funny how as a guitarist, I always liked to have a spare guitar/amp/tuner/etc. But as someone who has played more gigs on bass I don't bring a spare (my other bass is a short-scale), but I have broken a few strings (one during sound-check and another during the gig).
10. I had our band name on my Valvestate 8080 years ago. I wouldn't do it again. Not all bands last, so is pointless imho
11. How does this compare to the Squier VM?
12. I used to practise in our garage. It was a house in the country. We had dogs, cats, goats, garden machinery in there. Our roads were covered in slurry and muck. I drank and smoked in there. As did many of my mates. Everything looked like it was giggled. But wasn't. "Never gigged" can still be "as if gigged".
13. Our last manager used to say, "If in doubt, do nowt." We need a session in the buff, and he quit.
14. My bass amp was my Valvestate 8080. I have always been a guitarist that plays bass. I acquired a Sound City bass amp from the 70s soon after. The Marshall was quite clean, but no match against the JCM900 50w my guitarist used. If I'd have known at the time I would have closed up the speaker cabinet for a few more for award-facing db! Was the Pro-Bass the equivalent of the Pro-Tube? I had the AOR30 for a few years. It sounded great for bass too, but the Valvestate was louder.
15. I use both. I was a pick user for over twenty years, but I find in play certain things much better with fingers now. I actually dig in more with fingers. I used to always use black 1mm nylon Dunlop, now I find d myself using the grey ones.

17.
Has anyone ever made a replica ? Fender (US or JP), Tokai, Shuker, Bravewood etc etc
Bass Centre Bass Collection have a Frankenstein model. In pink. Which is weird, as I don't think he performed it in that colour. Haven't tried it though.
18. The Laney in a local practise room is awesome.
19. It was something like 10 years before I realised my Sound City was the B model. Sounds great for guitar or bass
20. When I bought my VM Jazz I also tried a MIM Jazz. I did not hear feel £200-worth of difference.
21. I have not changed the pups in my VM, despite narrowing it down to SCN and Quarter Pounders as contenders. I do not feel the pups are that bad, and may actually just insulate cavities with copper tape instead.
22. I'm from Northern Ireland. I've been playing guitar and bass for over 25 years. I've had more gigs as a bassist, so that's what I tend to concentrate on. I gave upon success with my own material a long time ago, and stick to cover bands and pub duos these days. I play a Squier Vintage Modified 70s Jazz through Sound City B50+ and Hartke Transporter 410. I had my amp guy modify a MkII 100w Superlead, but that is nowhere near as loud. Although if we practise at keyboardist house I just use a Blackstar HT1 into a 212. For home-practise I just DI into the PC.
23. For home-practise, I use Behringer Bass DI and Harte Bass Attack. I still haven't worked out which I prefer.
