1. It's mine and an absolute beauty !! Thanks Mike
2. Thats fantastic... whats the U.k price for them ??
3. Got my tickets..... Going to take my young son to see how it 'should' be done !! lol
4. I might be interested in the short scale... pics please
5. Well I never !!! Think I better stick to my Laklands !! lol Did feel nice tho, must be the Jazz neck :-) On offer at £399 Is that about right or pricey for a Mex ??
6. Went into town this morning and looked inside my local 'Crack Converters' as you do in the hope of picking up a bargin when I saw a guitar advertised as a Fender Precision Bass. Well you could have fooled me (and maybe they have!) Have never seen a Precision like this. It's sort of a early tele bass shape (the first precisions) with Pres & Jazz pick ups. Tele Bass style scratch plate and controls, a Jazz feel neck 1.5" at the nut. The headstock looks total wrong to me (to narrow between the 3rd & 4th tuner (schallers) There is a ser no on the the back of the headstock MN407083 So what is it ?? Has my local Crack Converters been done or do I not know my Fenders (possible) lol
7. Thanks Guys..... It's got to be a Mustang. Anyone got one for sale ???
8. Can any of you guys enlightern me as to the differance between these basses.. I worked out that they are all short scale (what I'm after) and s/h prices seem similar. So advice and knowledge sought. If this subject has been brought up before... sorry, but a link would be good) Thanks in advance Les
9. Callum, I note, dispite the numerous e-mails between us and my offers to purchase your bass for the £300 you asked for, You have decided now to put the guitar on e-bay for £400.00 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ME:B:SS:GB:1123 That of course is your right ! But as a new member on here, it would have been curtious to let Me & possibly others aware of your intentions and not waste our time. I have turned down a number of fine basses whilst in negotiation with you and consider it bad form that you should list it on e-bay today without informing me that you do not want to go ahead with the sale! Cheers
10. Pm'd
11. Have you all found on Sky, channel 260 'Rock 0n TV' ? looks like it's tied into Planet Rock.... Great channel if you like YES, Rick Wakeman & Deep Purple (which I do) as they tend to repeat things alot... It could grow into something bigger !!!!
12.
I have used the hard wired technique for a long time. It is great and much easier to carry than wedges I use a Samson headphone amp which has been rock solid. I have never used a piece of Behringer kit which has lasted. Just my 2p.
Thanks Owen, The Behringer amp that I had in mind is identical to a Sansom one I've seen, except for a flashier case !! I always thought Behringer was pretty good for the price ?
13. Hi all, Hope you can help me with some advice on this subject.... Have just joined a Blues Brothers Show Band in the London area and whilst we have a massive PA system & desk, we are severely lacking in 'on stage Monitoring' The sound engineer is keen to get powered floor monitors, but the band members would prefer In Ear !! I know most of the pro's and cons regarding 'in ear' v 'floor' and having used 'In ear' before that’s the way I want to go. My plan is to have the band (who are static) kitted out with a 'wired In-ear' system via 2 x 4 channel Headphone pre-amps (Behringher???) fed from the mixer output with one each side of the drum kit for the band & horn sections. Jake & Elwood would use a wireless system (Trantec ???) . Have you had any experience with this type of set up ? and is there any specialist shops within a 50 mile radius of central London that you could recommend where we could try this type of system out. We have a number of prestigious gigs coming up and need to get this sorted straight away !! Cheers.. Dusty
14. Pics of the JO4, Immaculate condition. Both scratch plates included and a 'as new' deluxe padded gig bag
15. Yup.. I'm a big fan of the Purps, and whilst I have a lot of respect for Roger, 'My' Bassman is Yes's Chris Squire and they are both associated with Rickenbacker 4001's.. So I have a Mapleglow Rickie as well !!! Had it since 1977 and have an ongoing love hate relationship with it... but would never part with her !! I've been through so many basses over the last few years (Warwick Thumbs, Corvettes, MM Stingrays & Sterling) It was only when I bought a Lakland JO 5, I felt comfortable with the feel of the neck, so I bought a JO 4 ( the Blue & Sunny one in 2007 pic) and was knocked out by the feel, sound & quality of these basses. Had tried loads of Fenders in shops, but they never seemed to grab me, that I didn't want to put them down. Then I spotted a USA Bob Glaub on e-bay in America with the Jazz Neck, had to have it and to date is the best bass I've ever picked up ( The Warwick Thumb was close, but very neck heavy) I've got the Duck Dunn, as its the closest to my spec BG at a third of the price and will be my back up or will be used in tight spots where there is a risk of it getting a knock !! Glen Hughes is playing a Lakland, as is Mr Squire (how I heard about them!!) The list of 'names' using Laklands is growing daily. I think a lot of stars are using them because they are probably the closest thing to a Vintage Priceless Fender you can get, and I would not want to take a priceless guitar out on tour !!
16. Time to up-date the wall with the 2008 collection........ L - R Skyline Joe Osborn 4 (natural with Maple), Skyline Joe Osborn 5 ( Natural with Rosewood). USA Bob Glaub P/J Jazz neck in Birds Eye Maple, Jazz P/up @ bridge & Drop D tuner. Skyline Duck Dunn in CAR and Rosewood. The 2007 collection was.... L - R, Skyline JO 5 Natural with Rosewood, USA Bob Glaub...both as above. Skyline JO4 in Sunburst & Rosewood and a Skyline JO 5 in Lake Placid Blue & Rosewood Unfortunatly, the Skyline JO4 in Natural / Maple / Black has to go Contact me for more info, |Sorry, but will not be able to respond until 1st June
17. A good question this.... Mine would be ..... Lakland USA Joe Osborn Jazz Neck, (far nicer than the Korean JO's and DD's) Birds eye maple fretboard, NO Headstock & made thru neck into a Rickenbacker shaped body. Status individual tuners. Music Man Pick Up at the Bridge and Lindy Fralin Jazz Pick Up near the Neck. Black Body Mirror Pickguard. And Made by Mike at Zoot Bass / Bass Merchant (does the plug get me a discount) ? Would probably look horrible, but you did ask !! Failing that... the new slimline Status if they could match the JO profile Neck
18. Hi Dave, I find the P's a bit growlly if thats the right word with the tone on full treble and a bit boomy on full bass, the additional Jazz pick up does give you the option of a brighter sound if you want it. So I would still prefer the flexibility of the PJ option
19. Pics as promised..... Jammed with it on tuesday, all the banjo pickers liked the colour ! Rehearsed with it on wednesday... I'm in love
20. Alarmed to hear some of the comments here regarding the Duck Dunn as I've been Gassing for one for nearly a year now and finaly got my hands on one (other than OBBM's) on saturday in Brighton. I was in love and had to have it..... so my lovely wife bought it for me ! I cant (at the moment) fault mine. weight wise, I dont thing theres anything in it, between my USA Bob Glaub PJ and My Skyline JO4 (now for sale ) It's going out in a moment to the local blues jam before i show it off to the band tomorrow !! Let you know how it goes pics tomorrow of the DD and all four of my fantastic Laklands
21. As a Ford Employee, we saw early video footage of the instraments being made & tuned etc. Yes they really do play, dont think I'd like to cart them around. I think Mike Rutherford and Kenny Jones were involved in there somewhere.
22. We can all do with an extra inch !
23. I was a SR5 owner til I saw a Blue Lakland JO5 on evil bay which took my fancy. Put a bid in and won it. The Lakland was so much better, the SR5 was on the bay within the week. I've since replaced the Blue one for a natural one with a tort pick guard. The neck on the Laklands felt thinner anda lot more playable to me. Try all before you buy if you can, chopping and changing can cost !!!
24. If your stuck between a P or a J.... easy Get a PJ ! Mine is a US Lakland (better than new Fenders) Bob Glaub P body with a Joe Osborn J neck. It has Lindy Fralin 'P' pick ups at the neck and Lindy fralin 'J' pick up at the bridge. Have spent many years and a fortune trying to find 'my' ultimate bass and there it is. Had various Ric's, Fenders, Warwicks, Status etc etc etc, but the Lakland is the dogs danglies. P.s, could not vote as I'm torn between the two... but the J would probably just win it!
25.
For a Duck Dunn I'd see you your JO4 and raise you my grandmother! :brow:
Tempting..... Does she still have her own teeth ?
