If we ever did get our finger out and organise a Essex Beer/Bass Day, I'm sure Mike at the Bass Merchent would let us have the use of his Rehearsal Room !!! He may even put in some tasty amps for us to try out P.s, another Bass Player looking for a band !!

Having been through the Fenders, MM's Warwicks etc etc, I now swear by Laklands. You can pick up a nice US Joe Osborn for that sort of money, or save yourself a few bob and try a Skyline. Best value for money bass on the market.

If we get a few more of the Essex Lads to come out of the closet, we could have our own Bass Day !!

I'm in Basildon
Just wondering if the skyline Bob Glaub's are usually lightweight. I've just pulled the trigger on one which supposedly weighs about 7.5lb, which will be the lightest P type bass I'll ever have had. Hope that weight is pretty accurate.
Mine is a US model and would estimate it at around that sort of weight. The Skylines come in a bit heavier. Best Bass I own Enjoy

I need to part with my 'new' Line 6 Variax bass in Black. I've taken it out of it's Line 6 Gig Bag twice for about 10 mins each and put it back again. The Plastic on the Scratch Plate and the Label on the Headstock are still in place. This is a great Bass and ideal for a studio situation. I've acquired too many basses over the last couple of months and have been 'TOLD' to thin them out (you know what I mean!) Comes complete with Bag, DI Box, Special Lead. Offers around £450.00 Pics to follow....

+1 for the wrist bands, also handy for mopping the sweat from the forehead (or most of it in my case !) I tend to suffer now with a blister on the side of the thumb after each gig, caused i expect from the way i hold the pick and it rubbing against the E string. I've tried plasters, but they look a bit silly! Any ideas on this problem ?
All the above comments are true and correct ... but in my experience if the singer's not up to scratch no will take the band seriously no matter how brilliant the musicians or songs are. Some originals singers can escape a bit because of stage prescence / character / great songs etc - think Bob Dylan. Theres nothing worse than getting to the end of a gig and trying to book another and the venue says 'great band, lousy singer' and you know in the back of your mind that they're right but you didn't want to bring it up earlier cos they're a mate or good guy. Had a similar situation with our 'ex' singer at the beginning of the year. Lost one prestige, good paying gig that we had played many times due to the guvnor thinking the singer was crap, we put this down to the manager being a ars£hole, but then a few weeks later we lost a second even better gig due to the guvnor not liking the singer, in fact they would not let us play the second set ! In the heat of the moment the singer quit, which we accepted, he then spent weeks begging us to have him back !! Problems were, He was/is a good singer, but the bands style had changed from Blues to Pub Covers, which he was not comfortable with. He was also a mate but not a good front man. It was hard for all of us.

The quality question about USA v Korea came up at the SE Bass Bash, and as I have / have had 3 Skylines and a USA, IMHO, the USA are the better basses, lighter & better finish. BUT, You would be hard pressed to tell them apart, both visually or sound wise. Maybe at the next bash we could do a 'Blindfold' test. Buck for Buck, the Skyline wins hands down, even up against some of the top end Fenders. (That should start a war !)

Many thanks for organising the Bash Dave, Sorry I could not stay longer. Heres the Lakland Boy's with their Toy's !! L - R, Silverfoxnik with his DJ 5; Hamster with his 55-01 with Audere pre-amp, also holding on to OBBM's Duck Dunn with Darkstar pick-up; OBBM with his DJ 4 & 5, both with 'J' Retro's and Dusty with his JO 5 and BG-P/J.

I've have a T shirt that I got from (and is still available) from the Hard Rock Cafe which say's 'Musician looking for Groupies' Not as good as Franks idea. Strange thing is, it was bought for me by my wife and daughter, but I'm not allowed to wear it unless they are with me .. So unfair !! Back to subject, Agree re lack of Bass Players on film, I was watching the Live Earth thing and started writing down (sad) the basses being used. At times it was a real struggle to determine the make! But it was great to see two Laklands within the first 30 mins. Best thing on the day for me was the first time I had seen Flea in action.... Fantastic. And of course, Derek Smalls 5 pick up Lakland Bass
