EBay's rules & regs state that if the seller put's an item up for sale with no reserve, then it's a sale, ad that it's all above board & legal. The seller will be charged the listing fee and the selling fee no matter what. Not sure if the buyer can open a dispute against the seller if no money has changed hands.
That's some consolation..he'll be out of pocket for quite a few quid then. I can't be bothered to start a dispute..especially as you say..no money has changed hands (yet).

Welcome to the forum. If you're not getting on everyone's nerves..then you're not practising enough! My old mate played for New Model Army...he is/ was the drummer.

I'm having an interesting experience at the moment on " The Bay". I just won the bidding on a killer bass..no reserve..and no one else bid on it! But the seller has gone all quiet. I was hoping for an invoice yesterday morning for the revised total including shipping ( the bidding ended Saturday evening)... But no reply..even though I messaged him yesterday evening. He could be away for Easter (possible).., but I have a suspicion that he's not gonna give me the bass...cos he's gutted at the low price I won it for. I know there's nothing I can do about it...and tbh I'd feel the same as him...BUT...I'm GUTTED nevertheless. 😭😭😭😭
A friend of mine had a late 60's fretless jazz with block inlays, converted to P/J. He gigged it for over 15 years with no epoxy and no problems. He played it through a vintage Fender Bassman valve head and 2x15 cab. It is still THE most sexiest sounding bass I have ever heard. He's a really tasty player too though. Go for it.
Sounds like the way to go then. Thanks for that..I believe I am suitably reassured. I'm particularly pleased that it stayed good even tough it was gigged regularly AND without being epoxied.
You cannot be a fretless player without some comparison to Jaco. So get over your guilt and play that Jazz like there is no tomorrow......
Good point...and I will. Thanks for that
Should be fine, Birelli Lagrene did just that.
Hmmmm...he's a fine bassist..I guess if it's good enough for Birelli......
I'm having a fretted neck (rosewood) with blocks converted to fretless as I type. I hope it will work.
Any chance you could let me know how it all worked out?
-
hi to all. Simple question. Can basses with necks that have block markers...(like a jazz), be defretted to make a good fretless, or will the block inlays scupper the idea? I've just pulled the trigger on a Sire Marcus Miller...and was considering buying another one to convert to a fretless.
Concerning Jaco, The Himalaya, i understand your thoughts. Of course he almost "resume" this bass, as John Coltrane did with the Tenor sax. Above all, Jaco created a Style, or Spirit. Pino Palladino extended this Heritage with a... Stingray, Mick Karn with a...Wal, Jean-Marc Jafet with an... Ibanez So unless you try to clone Jaco's playing, i think that there are various manners to find a personnal way with a JB : touching differently the strings, using flats or mixing the 2 pick-ups, etc... You will find cause you are an artist. Surrender to the perfection of a Jazz Bass Its Design : simplicity, ergonomy, various colors beauty, elegance... I used to own 6 JB at the same time, i am an addicted, in love with this thin neck and asymetric body This woman Meshell Ndegeocello, great Artist, shows how to have a personnal voice with its flatwounds geared Jazz Bass. She lighted my way and point of view in 1993. Sound, Groove, Charism, Freedom http://youtu.be/uSJxP3Cy9qc
Thanks. You make some great points. I've never heard this lady play before...she's great...I love the music too...thanks for that.
Glad to be of service, and happy birthday! Seriously, I'm sure you will get on with the bass. Enjoy.
Thanks Discreet..I'm really looking forward to giving the bass a damn good hiding!
-
Well I hope you're satisfied. My bass playing brothers. Because of your evil and bad bad advice..I've just pulled the trigger on my very first jazz bass ( after 40 years of playing). I should never have started this damned thread. Mr Discreet didn't help at all with that review of his bass. I've just gone and bought an identical one to his from the German company....well it is my birthday in a couple of weeks. I've got to admit though....the sense of relief after so many years ..is just fantastic. Thank you all for your advice.
Buy an Acoustic 360.
NOOooooooo!
Get the jazz... you won't sound like jaco, you'll sound like you with the sound you want
You sound like the little red guy that sits on my left shoulder

It's like this chaps ( and chapesses). I've got some killer basses. I've been playing for donkeys years. The sound I LOVE is a killer back pick up sound.....like you get from a jazz/ super jazz. A sound that burps, growls, fizzes. I am an artist in my own right with my own style...and have avoided buying a jazz BECAUSE I love THAT TONE...(it's all Jaco's fault). I've avoided buying a jazz cos I know that all I'll do all day is try to play Jaco licks instead of developing my own way as I have been doing. But I just cannot help lusting after THAT SOUND..... What the hell am I suppose to do???? HELP!!!!!!!!
A bassist has a genuine need for the following basses as a minimum: two fretted jazz basses one strung with flats, one strung with rounds; two fretted precisions, one with flats one with rounds; a fretless bass, possibly a jazz; one with decent active electronics for a modern hi-fi sound; a vintage bass; a custom made bass; a bass with exotic woods; a semi-hollow; an acoustic bass; a headless bass; a bitsa frankenbass; an acrylic bass; a keytar; a bass that nobody else has; the bass everyone else has; a broken bass that's always in the process of being fixed..... and a Hofner.
Brilliant....and spot on.
-
I'm glad you like it. I think the EB is a great undiscovered territory.
I think you're spot on....a little open secret.
Isn't that lucky that no-one bit? Glad you're getting along better now. Gibson bass in "not crap" shocker, eh?
Yup..A Gibson that sounds brilliant....first one I've tried that does the buiness.

I bought this bass new before Xmas..and decided it wasn't for me..after only 5 mins of playing. I even have been trying unsuccessfully to sell it. Yesterday I tweaked the action and tried playing it through my proper rig, and not through the tiny practice amp I was using. Well how wrong can a guy be? The bass blew me away! I just didn't expect it to sound that good.....phenomenal in fact. I think it was the high action, heavy strings, and type of strings that made me dislike it initially. But after playing it for about an hour I was knocked out at the array of tones it has to offer..it really rocks!..and has some great soloing tones too....from a Gibson?? This is a keeper! Really glad no one bought it!
