1. Hi, just letting everyone know about a guy in the USA who does custom parts. I ordered some brass pick up surrounds from him about 2 weeks ago..they arrived today and are really nice. The owner ..a guy called Dave was a pleasure to deal with and his work is tops. I couldn't find anyone in the UK to supply these..especially so quickly. He accepts paypal and I payed $56 for a pair..for use with EMG 35 series pups. He can be found here.... http://www.fretsonthenet.com/
 2.
I'm really having thoughts about getting this installed on my Spector, purely because I know the bass has much more potential and even though the Spector Tone-Pump is very useable, I'd just like to have more control over the treble and mids as opposed to the 2 seperate volume controls and the treble and bass controls. Has anyone had experience with this pre-amp? Does it make a significant difference to the tone? Thanks All, Josh.
Hi Josh, I fitted the BQC to a passive fretless I own and it made a big difference in terms of tonal possibilities. The only thing I was not to keen on was that the wiring coming off the main circuit board is very brittle (at the solder joints)...so if you do install be very careful as the wiring sometimes snaps off at the circuit board...this is a real pain if you don't remember where the wires were originally attached. I liked having the mid sweep.
 3. After years of resisting the urge to buy a Jazz derivative I thinking of going for it. I have got my eye on a VM jazz..the ebonol necked ones... the question is simple ..are they any good...I want that Jaco bridge pick up tone. Is there a huge difference between one of these and a USA jazz? I know that they can be upgraded but I have heard it said that an upgraded Squier is still a Squier..is there any truth in this. If the difference is small then I reckon it's worth a shot. Has anyone put a J retro in one as an upgrade...did it kick butt?..or even different pick ups. Your advice gentlemen please. ps if you have any other recommendations for the Jaco tone ( a different make of bass)...then I am all ears. I'm looking to spend a max of £250
 4.
Not my cup of tea either!
I think it looks great...so there.
 5. Just had an idea..I'm not sure of the practicalities but here goes. Would it not be a REALLY COOL IDEA to compile a sound sample library of peoples basses? Many is the time when I have wanted to buy a bass...usually online but wasn't sure of how it would sound. I am suggesting for example.. 1) Fender jazz front pu fender jazz bridge pu fender jazz both pu's and then the same for more exotic basses.. I think it would be a great idea for the Basschat website....just think of how many different basses are owned collectively! What do you reckon?
 6.
I'd say the seller may break lucky in the present economic climate but that's about what it's worth on an average day! But Hey stranger things happen on eBay... it may end up going for stupid money if an idiot and a shill bidder get started.
Thanks for that.
 7. Hi chaps, does anyone know what this is really worth? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Warwick-5-string-fre...A1%7C240%3A1318
 8.
Unfortunately, it's not an easy job. The fingerboard is ebanol rather than wood, so probably won't take very kindly to being planed. There are several people in the US with the required expertise and proper equipment to straighten the neck for you but it won't be cheap. If it's not done correctly you will have problems with the non-aluminium sections separating from the aluminium ones. The best place to ask for advice and find who can do this for you is the Kramer Aluminium Forum. Good luck.
Many thanks for the link...looks very useful
 9. I have a customised Kramer fretless with an Aluminium neck. The action is pretty good..but there seems to be a 'generous' amount of relief (forward bow). At some point I think it will need straightening...does anyone know of anyone out there with the necessary expertise? Any pointers in the right direction would be gratefully received.
 10.
Thanks to everyone for the interest but the bass is now sold. If anyone wants one building with a personal specification let me know.
well done Paul Raj
 11.
I would assume it was that Luthier Extreme or whatever it was on ebay from brazil that made loads of shoddy bodies and the occasional full bass, mainly sort of copies of all the big basses around. But I guess how good they were relied on the person who got the body and what they did with it if it wasn't one already made.
I am afraid you are wrong my friend..the bass was made in LEEDS by the seller..he also hand made the pickups...so I'm afraid that they are NOT Lane Poors....I haven't rceieved the bass yet . I am expecting it to arrive tomorrow...who knows.maybe his own pickups are really good..we'll see.
 12.
Looks very Warrior-ish.
Just what I thought too
 13.
Hand Made or Home Made
Handmade at home I guess..as long as it sounds wicked who cares?
 14. I just bought another bass that I did not need...,couldn't help it..it was custom made by an unkown builder....made with exotic brazilian hardwoods, the makers own handmade pick ups..a top notch case....and it was a steal...c'mon what was I suppose to do?? Has not been delivered yet....I've already ordered some Nordstrand big singles.http://basschat.co.uk/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=140274640366
 15.
How about if you give a detailed review of your wishbass over on the appropriate forum. I'd like to hear of your expreriences with your Harley Benton 6er too.
That's a thought..but I can't upload any pics of my wishbass as I don't have a digital camera. The Harley Benton..IMHO is a really cracking bass..I bought it to see if I could get along with a 6'er. It played/sounded great right out of the box, very versatile tonally too. I think I paid £120..including shipping from Germany.
 16.
Many thanks gentlemen
I nearly forgot...how do I know how far from the bridge to position the pick up...are there any guidelines on this. I am after a very growly sound.
 17.
make sure you are routing for the Delano pickup and not just a standard MM shape. I've discovered at least one brand of generic but commonly supplied MM pickup case won't actually retro-fit a stingray because the corners are too sharp on the newer pickup casing.
Many thanks gentlemen
 18.
i think your completly missing the point check the guy's ebay feedback, he has many happy customers
+1 on that point. I own a wishbass..had it for a few months now. I did all the necessary "googling" and the general concensus from people WHO ACTUALLY OWN ONE (important point), was that the finish was poor but they liked the tone. I like many others did a bit of work on mine ..which basically involved sanding down to the wood, rounding a few edges, and then finishing with teak oil...it took about a week. I really like my wishbass. (I own some very high end basses too)..it has a feel all of its own..very comfortable to play.and a very pleasing tone..and each one really is unique. The much maligned bridge works perfectly well..no intonation problems at all. There is a lot to be said for simple engineering solutions like that. ..and I've also noticed some high end builders who use a similar arrangement. More power to Mr Wishnevsky.
 19. Hi, I have a bass currently fitted with 2 bartolini soapbars, and an EMG BQ3 preamp system (with mid sweep control). I want to replace the bridge pick up with a Delano Music Man type . Is it simply a question of pulling the old Bart out and replacing it with a delano (After routing to correct size)..or is there something I am overlooking??
 20.
I have a Delano MM in my Single cut... And it is the Growliest Pup i have ever had. But that could also be a combination of various things... Bridge, Woods..etc [ i dont know if that makes any differance ] I do know it has a very high output. Infact i dont use any on board Eq at all. [ Agi 3 band ] It is just run passive [ i dont have any tone control when in passive mode] The Delano Pups Rock...! Garry
Where did you buy your Delano MM from? and how much did it cost.? Do you remember the model number? there seem to be a few variations which is confusing. Thanks in advance...
 21. I have a fretless bass (4 string) currently fitted with bartolini soapbars. I want to replace the bridge pick up as I want a REALY GROWLY SOUND.....tuba like. I was thinking of a Music Man type pick up..but I am open to suggestions. I currently have an EMG active BQ3 circuit installed with variable mid sweep. Can any body suggest a pickkup that will fit the bill. Your thoughts gentlemen please??
 22.
I've done my knee in, so I'm in the same boat (or rather, on the same stool). Rock n roll.
You might want to try camping shops..they do 3 legged foldaway stools...very light too. But alas no padding, comfortable though...I use one when I am camping out at festivals to play my guitar with.
 23.
Relisted with a lower reserve (£450) and a BIN reduced by £100 and still with Brooklyn Gear strap and Trussrod tool. Peter
Hi. believe it or not I am unfamiliar with the sound of Warwick basses...Is that a MM type pick up near the bridge? What type of tone could I expect finger style played near the bridge with the MM style pickup only? Are you open to offers? Best Regards
 24.
I've got a maple neck fretless Precision, which was converted from fretted. Obviously when you pull out the frets there is damage to the finish of the neck which has to be stripped back so its best to refinish the neck with something hard wearing; I didn't do this myself and got a local luthier to do the work, that was back in 1989 and the neck still looks good and I use roundwounds! Cheers Charla
Thanks for that. BTW...we share the same birthday
 25.
no please dont do that to that lovely white L2000 (if it is the same bass you are referring to)
Oh...and what lovely white one would that be???
