  1. I'm in the process of a 'sympathetic restoration ' of a recently acquired bass. I've read a lot about different products that have been used for refinishing, many people pointing out that some lacquers/ varnishes can react with others. I'm not completely stripping the body back, just getting the old finish sanded smooth, filling in dings/ dents etc. How do I know what was used for the original finish on the bass, so I don't screw up when I attempt to apply the new finish. The bass in question is a 1977 Greco GOB 1200. any ideas, and tips are most welcome.
  2. Very impressed...sounds like he nailed the design.
  3. Aaah yes I see your point........ssssccchhhhhhh! Keep it quiet......
  4. Many thanks for the offer my friend..but miraculously, I've managed to track down and order the parts from a place in America. thanks again for your generous offer, and general 'great guy' vibe.👍👍
  5. Thanks Lefty...I stumbled across repro guitar parts a couple of days ago, and have placed an order. You're right, they're expensive but they had the bridge posts, knobs, and special truss rod tool I needed.
  6. Just managed to source some very scarce parts for my recently acquired Greco GOB1200...if anyone has a vintage Ibanez, or other Jap exotica check out this great guys website. http://www.reproguitarparts.com/
  7. The Shergold range of basses and guitars from the 70's used obeche as the body wood..Shergold marathon bass, and masquerader guitars.
  8. Very little...basically 2 brass posts that are threaded...easy for a machinist.
  9. Just bought a vintage bass, and I need 2 bridge posts made , as the current ones have been bodged around with....looks like something a guy with a lathe could make...anyone no anyone that might help. Each post has 2 different threaded sections. There must be a talented machinist on the firm surely?
  10. I'm looking for an eq knob, as one of them is damaged. The bridge thing is an illusion.. the way the bridge is adjusted from the bridge posts makes the bridge tilt forward.. I thought the same thing when I checked out the pics. I'm also after a pair of bridge posts...any ideas?... I'll check out sources for Ibanez Spares and see if I get lucky. thanks for the info.
  11. You know that lovely feeling when a bass you've been gassing for years shows up, coinciding with having the cash? Just happened to me..I'm over the moon. I've been drooling over this bass for many years..picked it up a few hours ago. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1977-Greco-GOB-1200-Electric-Bass-Guitar/302609356900?hash=item4674ec5864:g:dUcAAOSwdTJaY0Vf It has many dings and chips, but all the controls seem to work. Not sure whether to play it as it is or restore to its former glory. What say you fine gentlemen? PS does anybody know of a source of spares for these basses?
  12. I remember that bass! I ummed and Ahhhhed about that too...never realised it was the only one!
  13. I hope it has the same spec as the originals..including the Piezo. Thanks mate..that's great news!
  14. Wow! Any idea of the prices?
  15. It was listed as " no longer available ".. I was in contact with the seller, who told me it was sold to a chap in Germany..must've sorted it outside ebay I reckon.
  16. I guess we've all been there, waiting with some money put aside for THAT bass you've been waiting for to turn up for sale. In my case earlier this week the bass of my desire was up on ebay..a fretless Ibanez Affirma 4 string..in lovely condition. The original asking price was perhaps slightly more than its worth...but because I faffed about waiting for the price to come down ( and it did!)..... another less fussy bassist bought it. " He who hesitates is lost" YUP. The one that got away! Gutted. Anyone else have a similar tale of woe?
  17. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ampeg-8x10-bass-cab-used-but-in-good-condition-and-fully-working-with-flightcase/253415474848?epid=561648521&hash=item3b00bd46a0:g:AAcAAOSwkvdae1Cl
  18. Looks quite nice..but looks like it might be very neck heavy.
  19. It's to replace 3 standard pots. The 10 way rotary switch is a good idea but I don't think it's going to be possible to get 3 10 way rotary switches and fix them to the scratch plate ..and also they would require me to re rout the control cavity.
  20. The reason I'm asking is that I have an instrument fitted with Alan Entwistles ATN system, and some of the pot settings are 7,8,9 (or other) on the pots..I wanted a neat accurate and quick way of dialling in those tones.
  21. I'll look into it thanks, it's seems difficult to find ones suitable for mounting onto a scratch plate, and of correct value.
  22. No KiOgon..Im looking for a genuine multi detent pot..thanks.
  23. I'm looking for some pots with 10 detents, for use on bass or g****r. 250/500k. Does anyone here know of a supplier? thanks in advance.
  24. There was a broken connection between the copper winding and the wire to the preamp..I located it on the actual solder point on the pick up. So I cut the copper wire, unwound 1 turn, carefully cleaned the shellac off the wire with wire wool, and resoldered it....it worked! So relieved, the sale can now go ahead.
