I know..... If I had a magic wand, I’d love to put Bass Direct in a new premises with sound booths and plenty of room & see how they did compared to a “control” Bass Direct, in that dungeon they’re in now.

I’ve been up there a few times and they need more space, IMO. I think they suffer from cabin fever as do us lot when we want to spend a bit more time than is “alotted” to try out a 3k bass, perhaps. I’ve literally been in a queue to plug something in up there and then it’s not as personal as you might like. Divise is a good description too, as I bought a Sandberg from them but they tried to persuade me to step up even higher, to the Xotic basses. In hindsight, I wish I had. On the flip side of that, I always wanted a Warwick and actually went there first to play a few secondhand ones. I was told “I didn’t want a Warwick and that Zender actually played a P bass on recordings.” I bought a SS1, from Beedster, in the end & it’s one of my favourite basses. Its like a jungle in Bass Direct. They should send David Attenborough up there to study human dynamics.

Apparently, a lot of guitars and basses came to the UK without cases originally, which is why we're all looking for them. Interesting that all 4 things are different... over 10 years. That seems like a lot of effort to me. Anybody got anymore anecdotes or gems they need to offload? Apologies in advance for my dullest thread!

The next case is my 1972 P bass.....

Hey groovers, Somebody came to look at a bass I’m selling, last Saturday. Very nice chap, I might add. Anyway, the case for this particular bass is in stupidly good condition. The guy I bought the bass from was a private collector & he had all the iconic basses in his house, like a little museum. Anyway, on Saturday, the chap viewing the bass said “How do you know it’s original?” He had a good point & I didn’t really have an answer. It tickled me & I went off, squirrelling around in websites in search of some truth. I’ve got 3 different basses from three Fender “eras” & I’ve photographed the same parts of them to distinguish changes that happened to the cases in just 10 years, I think. Here’s the pictures of my 1967 Jazz bass case for your perusal, if anyone’s still awake at this point. I’m showing the logo, the position of the logo, the hinges & the handle of the case.
