1. Same cab in 8 ohms would be ideal. Its not always a good idea to mix and match cabs from different makes so stick with Ashdown.
2. Anyone see McFly tonight on the dance show. Nice LED job on the bass boys Ray but mysteriously no lights at all on the Ashdown stack behing him
3. Crawley Legion. One of our regulars. Went well but I had what I hope is a lead problem.
4.
A recording studio is not the place to be creative nor experimental, time is money! all your hard work as a band should be done and completed in the practice room and finalised in the studio!
Unless you are The Beatles making Sgt Peppers or The Beach Boys doing Pet Sounds.
5. Get a precision But seriously a precision only has 1 pup so using the neck pickup alone is gonna be a good place to start. Most modern basses are brighter than precisions so bit more bottom and bit less top. Keep adding bottom and taking off top until you get it right or run out of EQ - in which case revert to plan a above.
6.
I certainly haven't used the Accugroove as an extention cab to the GK combo, a never intended to either. no biamp facility on the MB150, i think just on their large amp heads?
Did not think it was likely to be honest but you never know.
ok, current amp is Demeter VTBP-201s pre or Trace V-Type pre into a Trace Elliot PPA300 power amp, which has two channels, but not bridgeable, hence my preferred 2 cab solution.
I think I would be inclined towards the Agi 1x12 solution. There are a couple of GS112 in for sale.
7. +1 for getting it checked by someone with a meter that works. Lots of Jap Crap (not an insult) form this era had DMZ
8. Just get an Aerodyne. They come up much more often and you can tell people that are impressed with such sh*t its the Duff model.
9. you still have not answered my original Q. Whats the full rig? I dont know heaps about GK but I know they have a bi-amp facility on some gear. If you have been using a GK combo with bi-amp and you have been putting the bass through the tweeter of the Accugrove cos you have used the wrong cable its gonna sound sh*t!
10. I used to have this:Like a c*** I sold it for f*** all when I did not need the money. Oh well.
11. OMG i have just got very excited ! [Edited by moderation, chill out fezz !]
12. Not being funny Mike but it goes like this. GK amps and GK cabs have a unique synergy. The amps and cabs have a built in bi-amp using the right cables. You have been using a GK amp with a.n.other cab with which cable? Try Homers GK cabs before you make a rash decision.
13. I think you may be suffering from "its not pre CBS" syndrome here. Its not SGC!
14. Is there a Duff sig - I thought it was just an Aerodyne.
15. Funny place to put this in the DHA section? A 79 is not that old compared to some of the guys 60's basses. I guess magnets could be affected by external factors or the copper wire can corrode if exposed to damp. Maybe just a bad batch of DMZ's. The thing is though I dont see a total BC Rich nutter being happy with a Lakky
16. Not being funny but if you are up to tearing the arse from a 6x10 you must be into doing a full pa job so whats the point. I can drown out our loud drummer with an HD350 and a 2x12.
17. Big G, Totally take your point regarding uncoloured advice but you are forgetting the Big S I alluded to in my post. Synergy. Some combinations work well, some are even better (P-bass, SVT) but some are total sh*t. Having been here myself using totally unsuitable bass/amp/cab combinations (but too long ago to be of any interest) synergy must be taken into account.
18. Jazz is the obvious answer. Thin necks like fat pencils. I think you need to work out your ideal nut width (precision 42mm Jazz 38mm) and then whether you can live with a semicircular (like half a circle) or more of a c section (which normally means shorter front to back than side to side but as you can see already is entirely dependant on font!). If you cant find what you want off the shelf there are lots of custom builders.
19. Is it me - or has their range diminished?
20. Well according to "Standing in the Shadows of Motown", a useful reference, Motown had 3 channels that was first used for the Marvalettes 1962 hit Please Mr Postman and two years later went straight to 8 tracks for the Supremes Baby Love.
21. Its a bass? If the pups sound good why replace them. Likewise the decal - unless you are going to try and sell it as a fender dont bother. Save your money to spend on something sensible like more gear.
22. Multi effects units are always gonna be a compromise - lots are cheaper than one good single pedal. I only use one effect though - VOLUME!
23. Another one finally finds their way home. Welcome back.
24. Recording of Sgt Peppers started in December 1966 and that has to have used more than 2 tracks!
25. Not sure of the whole picture here. Its a good idea to tell everyone what the full rig is etc to get the best advice. Failing that, if you are using a GK combo get a GK extension cab that goes with it. Using it with something radically different is likely to sound sh*t.
