1. I would be tempted to add to what you have got. Otherwise you wont be getting better gear - just different. Dont know much about Hartke gear but if portability is the only problem I would be tempted go replace the 4x10 with 2x2x10.
2. If you are still gonna use a low calorie back line like your 1x12 then you can still use the lineout on that. If it sounds crap then get a BDDI or Microbass.
3.
curious to know if there jazz basses could be modded with available parts, such as a wd neck, pickguards etc or would they just not fit, anyone know?
Why? If they are any good dont change them. If they are cheap sh*t and you mod them you have still got cheap sh*t.
4. Do your ears ring after loud music - a sort of high pitched tone? It goes away after a while. That is hearing damage and one day it wont go away.
5. Perhaps if you made it crystal clear how much you want you may have more luck. I presume you want £720 for the head or an HD350 + £350.
6.
it's sheffield not bloody newcastle mate!
Its north of Watford!
7. Scammers dont usually own the basses they are selling - thats why its a scam. They lift the photos from a genuine action and repeat it.
8. Or and SVT come to that. The first time I tried to lift an SVT my back moved but the amp stayed firmly on the floor.
9.
Never mind the band have decided to make me feel better - I get to carry the carved from stone HH pa cabs - just like the old days eh.
They are for wimps - try Mackie active subs!
10. They were good stuff in the day like lots of jap when they stopped making crap and started making gear as good as anything from the US. Is the second one a scam using the first?
11. When I joined BassWorld as it was then everyone was using EBS gear, which was reassuring because I had just ponied up lots for an EBS rig. Now everyone is using Markbass but am I bovvered. Some things are always in fashion - Fender and Ampeg. If you are bothered about fashion, trends, fads whatever, Fender and Ampeg.
12. Looks impressive. Dont they do a sleeve to match?
13.
I think the SBV500 bass is a very cool design, discontinued now I believe. Would love to find one. Look like an interesting alternative to a Jazz to me.
Paul C used to have a room full of them
14.
The only bass now I feel requires rounds is my active fretless which needs those harmonics to really sing.
Try Status Hotwire half rounds.
15. Almost all sockets on speakers for daisychaining are wired in parallel.
16. A case is a case - get a Hiscox.
17. GAS = Gear Aquisition Syndrome before you ask
18. BUMP = Bring Up My Post. Usually used to keep adds at the top. Some of the early posters were bass players wives that were top posters but all Off Topic.
19.
Flats turned out to be a bit of an anti climax for me, just tried a set of Fender 40-100 S/S (probably not the best set to try admittedly) on a MIA Jazz and I hated them. The action and intonation went to pot and I found the difference in tension and 'stickiness' just too much to live with, to the point even fretting a note after a few minutes was starting to be painful. I've just put some old stainless rounds back on frigged about with the intonation again and killing the treble give's me more or less what I think I want tone wise, longer term I will revert back to medium nickels and experiment more with the amp settings. Hey ho nothing ventured etc.. so a nearly brand new set of flats been on 3 days and played for about 4-5 hours going very cheap if anyone wants them
Not an unusual flats experience - thats why TI Jazz Flats are so popular. I would not have tried with Fender strings because I have always found them to be sh*t - not that I have tried them for about 20 years. They used to ship their basses with rounds and a flat E string that I always thought was totally weird. You could always try halfs. They have more of a round feel in terms of tension etc but smooth, some are nearly as bright as rounds and some are nearly as dull as flats.
20. They are good VFM. They seem to have dropped the more expensive BB basses and the TRB's all have too many strings. I think there is better available elsewhere but whatever takes your fancy.
21. Three reasons. 1. Competitive price compared to Sei, GB, Zoot, Overwater etc. 2. Location - not so many custom builders oop north. Lots of people (but not all) like to use a local builder they can visit. 3. Flexibility as he will build what you like. Lots of the others offer variations on the theme of their stock basses (like my red Spitfire bases GB) but Jon will build more bespoke basses (like Doodle). There are other custom basses on basschat and there are quite a few of us with GB's, plus RM Basses and AC Guitars are actually members so are better at posting their pictures in build threads. Bernie for one is not very good at IT so is unlikely to provide a customer with a photographic build diary.
22. Like I said watch the impedence. Peavey have changed their amp ranges and most only go down to 4 ohms now when a few years ago it was 2 ohms. Because they made amps to 2 ohms they did a lot of 4 ohm cabs and 1x15 and 2x10s were available in 4 or 8 ohms. Iy you have a 2 ohm amp you should use 2x4 ohm cabs. If the amp is 4 ohm then either 1x4 ohm or 2x8 ohm cabs will do the job.
23. I should think playing a fanned fretless in tune would be imposible.
24. An interesting approach. Do the DB's come without tweeter like the GS?
25.
Nice sales patter Bassman7, or is it Mr Smart?
No Mr Smart's uername is SMART. Spooky eh. Another +1 for OBBM. He supplies most of bass chat with cables.
