1. I hope you bigged up basschat!
2. Have you checked the luthiers sticky - its quite comprehensive. Just make absolutely f***ing sure you dont cross the thread when you try and put it back on.
3. Funk is about the one. Emphasis on the first beat of the bar and on the groove. You dont need lots of notes but timing is everything. If you dont funk the music dont funk. Listen to some James Brown. A lot.
4. I usually find the simple ask of why they are not gigging normally gets rid of itinerant musicians.
5. I've got one but it does not get much use now.
6. Sorry - best I can do. I'm sure Bernie will make you one with a P pickup if you want one.
7. Not got a Ray but I have used halfs for years. Not as bright as rounds, not as dull as flats.
8. As I said on a previous thread to road to string nirvana is a long and expensive one. Whilst we can all over various degrees of advice sooner or later you will have to bite the bullet and slap some on. Best advice I can give is start with the cheapest (but not the stupidly cheap wire some places sell).
9. Not gonna argue with Alex the Guru, but it seemed intuitive to me that rear ported cabs would be more sensitive to boundary reinforcement from the wall behind than a front ported cab. Although they should not be compared most rear ported hi-fi cabs recommend being 1m from the back wall but then i've always thought it ridiculous when you read the reviews and it says you should have your speakers 1m from back and side walls - most of us dont have rooms that big
10. Probably the same one and heading for Beedster Towers.
11. I use halfs on all my basses and have no trouble sliding - not that I do it all the time mind. Best of both worlds.
12.
Bass_ferrett, I deleted your duplicate post but it looks like both have gone - care to comment again? Sorry!
I deleted the duplicate as well. I just said: Is it porn? Do bears sh*t in the woods?
13. The DB is rear ported yes? Much more sensitive to placement.
14.
Beedster hit the nail on the head--its just very hard to describe the difference.Ive flats on my Sting 53 P Bass and just love the feel and sound--Im seriously thinking of putting flats on all my basses. The only thing I prefer about rounds is sliding --it feels easier on rounds.
? Rounds are rough - flats are smooth.
15. Looks good. What is it - MIA, MIM, CIJ? Looks like a Fender go at a Lakland Duck Dunn with Darkstar!
16. That wont fix the wobbly pots
17. Yes. They have been advertising in a couple of editions of BGM. The only problem is the name on the front, having always been associated with cheap gear with wobbly pots.
18. The moulded plugs work much better. You really do get what you pay for.
19.
What are the differences? I've never used flats, or ever looked into them. I was aware of their existence, but never knew why!
Look on the wiki for everything you ever wanted to know about flats.
20.
These still come in at under a fiver, and are rated for 10000 mating cycles.
Is that with or without the viagra?
21. Dont forget that pitch was a bit variable on the recording gear used back then. The key on the record ain't necessarily the key played.
22. Dont know really. Whats it worth as an investment - f*** all. Whats it worth if it sounds and plays great - priceless. And for everything else there's Mastercard.
23. RoHS?
24.
Well done, that man! When that bass was new, 15/20 years ago, it was a top-end £500/£800 instrument. I've got two SGC BC's (a 320 and a 325 - or is that BMWs I'm thinking of?) and they're both cracking pieces of kit. At £131, I don't think you'll be disappointed ... the Hiscox case is probably worth £60 on its own! Enjoy.
It sure is. A Beedster Bargain.
