1.
Radiohead's problem is very different to Oasis' problem, in my opinion. Oasis wrote a staggeringly good debut, and have been trying to recapture it over and over with diminishing returns. Radiohead intentionally change direction with every new album - this means that some of their stuff might be to your taste and some might not. I can understand someone preferring The Bends to Amnesiac or Amnesiac to The Bends, but I can't imagine anyone ever saying they liked Be Here Now more than Definitely Maybe. Make sense?
Definitely, maybe.
2. Yea jazz bands do like horn friendly keys. Guess thats another gig where a 5 string really makes sense.
3. Stanley Clarke sure is funky. I guess before you go buying individual albums try a compilation. For slap there was a bloke in a band called Level 42 that was quite good. Maybe your difficulty in finding good slap bass to listen to is cos its not popular now. Bass wise you cant go wrong with a Jazz but there are a few nice J type basses for sale at the mo - including a Lakland Jerry Scheff and a GB Spitfire that is the dogs danglies.
4. Welcome. You will find CIJ is very popular with basschatters.
5. you lot is mistakin me for someone that gives a f***. all i is doin is tellin the fella that if he posts like dat it might mean e doz not get many replies and hes the one askin for help. its very easy for misunderstandings to happen on a forum like dis - like finking someone is undermining a sale when they is actually tellin other posters that was undermining the sale to butt out - wivout added complications caused by not bothering to present posts properly.
6.
You don't have to read it.* *Whew* saved myself a grammar spasm. And thus, impending doom.
You got me.
7.
I think you'll find that's a quote from a Who song ...
Spot on
8. You dont have to read it
9.
Stevie Ray Vaughan -- Little Wing (for my money, superior to Hendrix's original)
What about the Derek and the Domino's version?
10.
Now, let's hear it for Radiohead!
I really digged Radiohead. Got Pablo Honey and The Bends and then got OK Computer and wondered why. Same with Oarsis - two great albums and then ? Got high hopes for Muse.
11. Boz Burrell was a bass player
12. Makes a change for me to miss the opportunity to say 'read the sticky'!
13. Much as I love the Beatles I have to admit there have been some great covers of their songs. In addition to the obvious there is: Joe Cocker - she came in... Stevie - we can work it out Sarah Vaughan - I Want You (she's So Heavy) complete with slap bass Ella - Can't Buy Me Love Siouxsie - Dear Prudence
14. A bargain - the best i've ever had
15.
Oh my. So you need to have an A in English language to be able to post? Bass or for that matter, any instrument, is for people to be able to express themselves. I have seen 100's of spelling mistakes and punctuation errors on this site. So why now do you choose to publicly correct a new member?
If he wants people to read it - write it in english. Theres lots of guys on here from all over the place that dont have english as their main language who post legibly. I, and I suspect a lot of others, wont read something like the original post cos its too much like hard work. People can post whatever sh*t they like, I dont have to read it.
16. Joe Cockers "With a Little Help............."
17. Badass I does not fit Fender holes. Badass II does fit Fender holes but does not have through body stringing. Badass III fits Fender holes and through body stringing. I think.
18. It always amuses me when I see some kids smashing up their gear. The 'oo even did that better.
19. Ill never forget one curious incident. I took my son to see one of the new Star Wars movies and ended up sitting next to two teenage girls. They were talking about their favourite band and I was not taking much notice until one of them said she liked Live at Leeds best and the other one said she preferred Who's Next
20. Over rated means all the people that think The Who were the greatest are wrong - unless my understanding of the english language has changed. Homer is right - it is impossible to compare todays crap bands with the greats of the past.
21. Hiscox always for me. Having rolled cars twice with my gear in the back it makes sense.
22.
er, what exactly does a German neck feel like BF?
Like a Warwick. I find them a bit chunky although others obviously love em.
23.
Jeez, that entwistle guy is one rigid mofo on stage! I never really liked the who though, but he's a good bassist.
There is no need to leap about when you are bringing forth thunder from your fingers. Besides Moon and Townsend who would have noticed.
24. Most bands in the 60's covered motown songs - including The Who, Beatles, Kinks, Stones etc. I used to have all The Who's LP's but when I replaced with CD's I just go the 4 disk box set and the albums that mattered - Tommy, Live At Leeds, Who's Next and Quadrophenia. In the 60's touring was done to promote records and often lost money. After appearing at Woodstock and Isle of Wight the Who were one of the first bands to start doing stadium tours that made money (once they stopped smashing gear and hotels).
