1. I gig maybe twice a month now but used to be 3-4 times a week when I was young. Did my first paid gig aged 15. If you get a good band with no ego's and politics there is nothing better. You dont have to be sh*t hot to gig and you will always find someone at your level. Even just going to auditions or jams can teach you much more about playing with other musicians than playing in your bedroom ever will, and bass is usually an ensemble instrument.
2. Not if you use superglue If you wont change the way you play to protect your nails then you are gonna have to do something like that.
3.
Why does this whole thread make me think, the phrase "Who cares, some of you need to get out more"? Its just an instrument....an object. There are bigger things occurring in the world.
I find myself agreeing with you again Ross - must be more careful. It might have helped had they made it clear it was a piss take on the whole "relic" scene people might not have got so upset - but then maybe they thought people would have the wit to work that out for themselves.
4.
How do you know the customer wanted a Jaco Jazz? How do you know the customer wasnt some young kid without a lot of cash who wanted a beat up mexican Jazz with no scratchplate? How do you know he wasnt there in the shop taking part?
That they were comparing it to a picture of Jaco might be a clue
5. Not sure what the problem is with flats - dont you like the feel or the string tension? Halfs may be the answer like Sean says. Try the D'Addario or Elites.
6. I've said it before mate - you have a problem Nice addition to the family.
7. String tables appear to be lost.
8.
Next time someone need a definition of the word dickhead, they should be referred to this video. It sounds like the customer wanted a jaco bass so they offered to relic a mex std, not having the slightest idea how to do it or the differences between lacquer and poly finishes.
Summed it up nicely. Tossers.
9. Not lived with either but preferred the Spectors I have tried to the Warwicks that most seem to have necks like logs. I think you should get what you want not what we want, and expand your choices.
10.
Actually, has anybody come up with a system whereby you can use the phantom power coming out of a desk and into a DI to power a bass in the event of battery failure with active circuits and light up scratchplates and stuff?
EBS amps have phantom powering for basses and pedals via stereo jack leads, powered by the input and effects send.
11. People keep falling for this one and I dont understand why. Strings now are pretty much the same price they were when I started playing 27 years ago, unless you go for something exotic. Why buy cheap sh*t?
12. That Lace looks cool. Interesting place to put the jack socket.
13. Not taking exception at all - its just not an accurate description of how I play; often with a pick - the heaviest I can get. Perhaps i've not broken strings because I have never used cheap basses and cheap strings
14. I've probably only broken 2 or 3 strings in 27 years of playing. And I dont play like a wus. Since I started playing fretless i've always taken both a fretted and fretless so one can cover the other.
15. So what flats did you get and are you happy with them? Add to the basschat fountain of knowledge.
16. Played a wish bass once - it was sh*t.
17. You must have been bonkers
18. There is a bit in the wiki about flats.
19.
There was a thread where one of the Hercules twin stands collapsed damaging a bass. I can't remember who posted it and it doesn't appear in the results if you search for Hercules, might have been on BW. Anyway, I use two of the Hercules single stands and think they're great. Pete.
That was Tinman. He responded in the other thread.
20. I think some asked this only yesterday. Most use Hercules.
21. In Ear Monitor Royal National Institute for the Deaf
22. I used a Peavey T_Max (350W @ 4ohms) into a Peavey 2x10 no problem. They used to do a T-max combo with 2x10 as well. Its not exactly light though. I would still be tempted to ditch the lot and get a good GK cab. Have you got the GK fixed?
23. Depends which end of the market you are looking at. Lots of high end 2x10's are 500 watts. There is something on the wiki that explains all about ohms.
24. You may get more response if you titled the thread "Where can I get a 70s (75?) RI CIJ jazz?"
