1. The thing is - even with sound clips it still wont sound the same when its on your bass played through your rig using your fingers.
2.
Thanks for the post so far. Has anybody tried using a Gotoh bridge? Also, do shallers use stock holes?
I think someone over on bassworld used a Gotoh. There was quite a big thread covering all this. I dont think Schaller fit the standard holes. If you look at the online catalogs for allparts etc they normally say if its a direct replacement. I know Badass are which is why they are the favourite Fender upgrade bridge and Fender use them as well cos it fits the holes they are tooled up for.
3.
I've seen a sweet custom with one, built to be a P style: www.gwbasses.com bigging him up because he always has time to give me guidance on mods and stuff I'm working on.
What is going on with those bridge saddles?
4. Go for it. Try and find some guys you can get on with and watch out for guitarists and singers egos.
5. Whats the power supply like to the tent? I have done tent gigs before with generators and we had awful problems.
6. Flea is a short-arse; hence his name
7. Wasn't Homer after a new cab?
8.
Hello Rich, congrats on taking up the bass. Get a decent tutor book,a tuner, and a quiet place to practice. If you want a bit more volume before your amp arrives, try playing with the head of the bass touching a door. The vibrations from the bass will transfer to the door and be clearly heard. The best bass lesson I ever got was this;it aint what notes you play, its the ones that you leave out that are the most important. Happy playing!
To further misquote Jamerson - the funk is in the fingers. Unless you are switching from guitar and a pick comes naturally - use your fingers. And welcome.
9.
No, warwickhunt, the approach to this was well out of order. The bass is highly sought after, why wouldn't he advertise it on the one single online bass community of the UK? It's the first thing I'd do if I was looking to sell a bass like this, get it on as many forums as possible. And despite what the other guy says, we're all quite capable of looking out for ourselves.
+1 this is a new forum and just because someones first post is to sell a £4K top of the range bass is no reason to give him a hard time. If his second and third posts are also selling £4K basses then one might be entitled to question his commitment to the forum but there is nothing in the rules to stop people using it as a free e-bay. What happened to David99 by the way?
10. Does it come with the bike? Pure sex Mark!
11. I presume you mean £1000 for amp and cabs?
12. Part of the attraction of the GK is being able to use the bi-amp facility of the amp. Homer already has a GK amp.
13. I noticed when you got it that the J pup was very close to the bridge and I think you are always gonna have problems balancing the two unless you get a really hot one for the bridge. As thats not the original pup anyway I would be inclined to just change that one first. It might be worth checking the wiring as well to make sure it has all been done proper.
14. What confuses some people is you can also have a pre-amp in your active bass and some people use DI boxes with tone controls (BDDI) that are also pre-amps. I've got 3 pre-amps running - one on the bass, one on the floor and one in my amp.
15. If an instrument has a sweet spot its probably easier to find with 2 volumes. Down side is its not so easy to change your overall volume quickly on the instrument.
16. Depends if you are buying or selling
17.
Plenty of Guys Slap on a Precision..... Nice new strings...sounds great , and punchy... Check out Freddie Washington... a master at slapping on a Presicion...! As for just in 80'S bands....uumm Most guy's here will tell you..todays working Bassist needs to have all the styles up there sleeves.. You never know whats thrown at you when you turn up at a gig/show/session/dep whatever. Ok if you just do one style..and that's what you wanna do..or if thats what you known for... but that limits your options for work. Every function band in the world seems to do 'Car Wash' ..in just about every key but the original...!! Oh well Mr Miller and Co might as well hang up there boots then.... Garry
Of course you can slap a Precision - but if a newbie on here asked for recommendations for a bass for slap I doubt if anyone will suggest a P bass - other basses do it better. Probably the only bass you cant slap would be a Gibbo with a big fat bucker right at the end of the neck. Once upon a time you could not turn on the radio or watch TOTP without someone slapping and I must admit I did it myself in the 80's. I like to watch Jools and he has a very varied line up of acts - even if some of them are crap. The only slapping on the last series was Paul Simons bassist IIRC. Sure if you want to get every gig you can you need to be able to do it, even if it is only required for one song in 100.
18. £585 at the Gallery so they were charging you retail. They only get trade price from shops so had they split the difference you would have got a cheap cab and they would have made a bit of extra money. Problems are retailers get the hump if distributers sell direct (but then they should stock them!). VAT complicates matters as well as they are probably not set up for retail. All the stuff I have got from Bernie has been ex review or used for trade shows.
19. I think Steve Lewinson played on their last live gigs. Yes they did use musicians.
20.
I believe Status will still make you a B-2 (the same as the one on eBay)
Yes they will - for about 2K and 3 months wait.
21. Yes - why slap a precision. If you want to slap - get a slappers bass. Personally I think slap is a busted flush and only of use in an 80's tribute band but if you have to do it - thats what Jazz basses are for (or Alembic, GB, Status, Musicman and anyone I've left out that might be offended).
22. I have a stainless steel pick of doom for when all else fails other than that all picks shave and if you have a black bass like mine it really shows! If you break them you are either trying too hard or using the wrong picks and yes bass picks do tend to be heavier and less flexible than thin string picks.
23. Not being funny - and I've said before the you can slap in a precision - but why?
24. Carol - is that Minogue seniors name?
25. Oh fukc!
