1.
Thanks-I'm so proud of owning all of these basses, but especially the Phil Lynott Mockingbird,so you will see me bragging everywhere-sorry
So thats what broke bassworld Welcome back
2. Why dont you look here?
3. Much better - tortie on sunburst looks just right.
4. Dont forget that unless they are working in a shed in the garden there are premises to pay for out of that money. Rent, rates, power, tools, plus a motor to run around in and petrol to run it. You dont think a woodstore comes ready made, the best bits of wood have to be tracked down and there is often competition for the very best bits of figured wood. I know Bernie Goodfellow is also thinking of putting his prices up - they have been the same for years.
5. Mine! There was a thread about this over on bassworld before it died. I think my Bass Collection was the lightest bass and my red GB a close second.
6.
Sei, ACG, Overwater, Shuker, doesn't get much better than those does it?
And GB, RM, Zoot and a little outfit called Status.
7. There is a bit missing Nice job - although claiming Martin is the best might flame the Shukerites.
8. With the exception of my very first bass (a framus!) all my basses have been active, so I cant really comment. My current crop dont have a bypass so I cant tell what the sound like bypassed. My Ibanez Musician and Roasdster had bypass and sounded OK passive but I never really used them bypassed - didn't see the point.
9. Just get a floor tuner - its the easy way.
10.
my friend is ordering one of these and im just wondering if anyone has had any experience with them because they look unbelievable lol any infomation is good thank you http://www.gwbasses.com/index.shtml
Never heard of them but looks cool. Why get a US custom built when the UK has lots of custom builders? I've been back to Bernie a few times for tweaks and you cant do that when it comes from the US.
11. When they first came out the pro cabs were the same as the usual cabs just with different grills etc. The tour cabs are neo lightweight jobs and may have a completely different sound to the hernia inducing pro cabs. I got rid of my Peavey rig cos I was fed up with humping all thaat weight around so maybe the tour cabs is the way to go. They are quite new mind so you may struggle to find someone thats used them.
12.
From the Squier web site "Fretless Ebonol with Inlaid White Celluloid Fretlines, 9.5” Radius (241 mm) " Plastic Ebony?? heard of it before. Photo attached doesnt look bad from this angle but it WONT polish out!! Also you can "feel" the celluliod lines when you run your finger over the board, is that normal??
Ebanol is a synthetic used by quite a few makes and is often found on graphite necks. There may be different types of generic Ebanol - some better than others. No it is not normal to be able to fell the fretlines whatever they are made of. But then again - it is a Squier.
13. you do the vibrato on fretless by rolling the fingertips up and down the string like a fiddle player. Dont bend.
14. Thats a long long way! Nevada used to be the music shop but I dont know where to eat - been a long time since I went to Pompey.
15. Still searching for the lost chord!
16. Whats the board made of? Both of mine were ebony and they marked up pretty quick.
17.
thats what i thought, but it looks as if they do need cutting. thanks bass_ferret.
They usually do. The only strings that dont need cutting is when you use through body stringing and even then they need trimming unless you want loads of wraps round the peg.
18. Should do. Long scale normally means 34 inches - any thing else is short scale and longer is extra-long. Fender Jazz are all 34" as it was Leo Fender who set the standard.
19.
Up Date......Well been playing this bass for a while (just home use) but the original strings are dead time to replace. I went with the roundwound guys, they sound a lot better. I have just taken them off to replace..and....GOSH....there is already wear on the fretboard!!! Silicone free polish nothing, always used lemon juice on rosewood boards before bit this is different and both wont shift the ...well almost groves on the D and G strings around the 5th to 10th fret HELP
Probably wont affect sound or playability. My GB has some marks already and my Ibanez Musician was well marked when I got it and I still played it for twenty odd years no problemo. But if you dont want it to mark any more and like the sound of rounds - do what I said before and use halfs.
20. Never been good at spelling
21. If only it had one less string
22.
Think thats Salmon Pink, very nice.
No such colour. Its actually called Fierst Red. Like this:
23.
Neil, you have a PM Chris
Thought you were downsizing?
24. No - its a fact of life. If it seems too good to be true - it usually is.
25.
Good ol banging Soul fills the floor everytime... ^_^ 1-nil to the Band!
It is actually summer at the moment, hard to believe I know. So make that the band win by an innings.
