1. You get what you pay for.
2. If thats what you want i'm sure Mr Goodfellow or Mr Shuker (there are others) will build it for you.
3. Well at least the guy selling it is not pretending its not a piece of sh*t!
4. The tortie is defo worth a shiner - white looks sh*te!
5.
TTD's 'Hardline..' album is worth checking out. Didn't he have Cass Lewis handling his low end duties, on a pink Warwick?
Yes it was Cass Lewis but I cant remember his bass being pink.
6. Alive - Tony Levin. Dead - The Ox - standing like a statue amongst the chaos bringing forth thunder from his fingers.
7. I would get the GB Spitfire that Ian is selling.
8. Not familiar with the amp but most have an input gain and an output volume control. So if you are using basses with different outputs you should adjust the input gain to suit. Might be worth getting a cheap mixer to put between the basses and the amp. I use an EBS Microbass II preamp to balance the volume of my basses but that is not a cheap option.
9. I saw Roachford supporting Terrence Trent D'Arby. You may laugh but it was an awesome gig. Used to have TTD live on VHS.
10.
I reckon that the biggest part of their problem is trade in/second hand gear...we all go looking for out of the norm and at good prices but they hold a very poor stock of s/h stuff and if you're looking to get part exchange they offer about 30% which is awful if you have bought something recently and incur a 70% loss.
Fair play for them for sorting you out - but you must remember trade price is about 50% of retail - the mark up has to pay for the shop (rent, rates, bills, wages, VAT, employers NI contribution etc). So why would they offer you the same for a trade in as they will pay for a new one?
11. Should keep you out of mischief until the SHuker is ready.
12. Why not bring it to the L&SE bash?
13. Lots of DJ's play what they want - not what the audience want. I guess had he played all the stuff in your fabulous set he would have had a full floor as well.
14.
They have internet sales as well so they should match online prices and being the UK's largest surely there buying power should easily see off most if not all competitors, I think where SC has gone wrong is the service, even if the prices are more you go back for a great service thats why I go to Electro Music.
Buying power is fine if you have the money to pay for it. I know one distributer who is royally pissed off by SC cos he gives them a massive discount because of their "buying power" yet they order like one pedal and expect the same deal.
15. Wont be surprised. You cant really expect a high street chain to price-match an internet warehouse but people do. The end result will be that internet warehouse will be the only way you can buy gear, and with no high street to undercut theywill be able to push their prices up as well.
16. Tried one - did not like it. Neck was a bit chunky and on the J/M the M pup completely overpowers the J. Preferred a Lakland Skyline.
17.
i've got a MIJ Precision you can have for £250 if you want it.
And the postage to Ohio would be?
18. Galli are one of the oldest string makers around. Not used these strings myself but the other Galli strings I've used have been tops.
19. Great - looking forward to hearing that Darkstar.
20. You can slap anything that has a gap between the neck and neck pup so yes you can - just as you can slap a 'Ray (and many have). Probably the only basses that cant be slapped are gibson style with a pup right next to the neck. Why you would want to is another matter.
21. Which ones are you bringing to the bash?
22. Yes I see what you mean. Each dark bit on one side is matched by a slight bit on t'other, which if you think about it is what you would expect from flame as the flaming is a trick of the light. Wonder how others make their non bookmatched flame maple look like bookmatched?
23. This sums up the problems with buying unseen from ebay - but OTOH you might pick up a 1960 Jazz for f*** all! Its always gonna be a gamble and really knowing what you are doing just minimises the odds.
