1. There are lots of choices, other 1x12 Neo cabs include EBS, Genz-Benz and Mark Bass. Best thing is to find somewhere you can try them all but that means a trip to the Gallery and thats a long way from Ballymena. I'd be temped to go with the Agi to exploit the synergy between amp and cabs.
2. Well the full parametric EQ will probably be a little daunting at first but if you set the freq and Q to what works best and forget about them unless fine tuning you should be able to get the hang of it - plus you can [push in the truck] about with it in the shop first. There are some other cabs that come in 4 ohms but a lot of Peavey cabs used to come in 4 ohms cos their amps went to 2. EBS cabs are often 4 ohms but I'm not sure about any others.
3.
Well done. That looks quite promising. We'd better start planning another for those who can't make it.
+1 for that. Doing it during the school holidays may not have helped. How about sending the others that expressed an interest a PM?
4.
Actually I've just had a brilliant thought, I'll ask Alan to make me a headstock out of a scrap of wood that I can attach to the end of the headstock with a couple of large neo magnets, that will really confuse people.
I've actually seen a couple of basses with headless tuners and the strings anchored to a runt of a headstock - cant remember where though as I'm sure I did not like them.
5. Most (but not all) unlined fretless have the dots where the frets would be. You could try just putting lines there to start with - see how you get on.
6. Lots of my favourite Ox lines have already been suggested - how about Substitute. Take the bass line away and there is not much of a song. Crossroads by Cream - Jack at his best. Im a Mover - Free. Andy Fraser's bass riff in Alright Now is a little to obvious. Going Underground - Jam. Foxtons Ric never sounded better. I Was Made To Love Her - Stevie. Such a great Jamerson line Carol Kaye tried to nick it. Jack The Bear - Duke Ellingon. Jimmy Blanton changes the world of Jazz bass.
7. Respect and recigonition yes. Up there with Jamerson - you cannot be serious!
8. At least you had loads of fun getting there. I guess I was lucky having the choice of all the basses in a shop to gig with when I stared but then I did find the light at a slightly younger age. Dont ever, ever think that a bass is too good for you though.
9.
Great looking pair there. I think your photography ain't too shabby either - you certainly know how to take great photos of basses! Steve
Either that or he is too lazy to straighten his bed in the morning.

GAIN!

Too much of anything is too much.
11. Dont bother - the only people slapping now are bedroom players on you-tube, Level 42 and Flea. If you really have to then check out Larry Graham, Stanley Clarke, some bloke called Miller and Kai Ekhart who is the only guy not reliving the 80's.
12.
Just come out and say what you mean man
I am under oath to speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
13. Well done Dave. I'll be there early doors with a brace of GB's and a pile of EBS.
14. Purple Dunlop 2.0mm for me, unless I am after a different sound when I will go lighter of get out the stainless steel plec of doom!
15. Nice!
16. You have not told us the platitudes of endearing gratitude you received from Mrs Nimrod!
17. I'm confused. What times are we talking about here? If its 10 to 2 I can probably put in an appearance.
18.
Quite the opposite really as it hinders slap/pop this link should clear up the ramp ? http://garywillis.com/pages/bass/bassmanual/theramp.html
Makes sense. Bit like the old fender thumb rest or some basses that have a rail. I thought it was to stop the thumb going too deep. Makes sense but I do like to be able to dig in sometimes but I usually use a pick then anyway.
19. Looking good. Shame I cant make the bash - will it be ready by then?
20.
With so many compliments I almost wish jhferret would pop along to say it doesn't look like a proper bass (I'll send him a PM).
I did look when you first posted but it made me sick so I've not been back (cant find a green emoticon). I am actually quite partial to a spot of quilt or flame, its some of the more outlandish woods I dont like. Lop 2 strings and that ugly single cut off, stick a nice head on and it'll be a cracking bass. Is the ramp made out of another cut of the veneer or is it cut out of the top? Looks cool not having visible pups but i'm not sure what the ramp is really for - something to do with slapping? Thats so 80's. Been there, done that. I did try a couple of headless basses when they first came out (wasn't that the 80's as well - the decade taste passed by). They were OK but just didn't seem right - like making love to a woman with no head! They were supposed to eliminate dead spots caused by the head or something like that - but I've never had a bass with dead spots. With Hipshot ultralights the balance issue is not so bad either, providing of course that the correct number of tuners is used As for the single cut - whats the point? More sustain? And you are gonna slap it? Personally I've never understood guys or gals that want their basses to sustain for a week - none of the songs in the Ferrets set list need that.
21. Its a lot better than I started with.
22. Here is the thread copied from basstalk. The other thread has been pinned so perhaps those that have not done so already can post there.
23.
It's starting to look like the 18th but what happened to all those who were so keen for this to happen? Looking at the current numbers it is either not financially viable or we just do it beween 14:00 and 18:00. If the dates don't appeal then we could move it to October, November, December or later, or just forget about it.
Count me out then.
24. Just seems wrong to me having a pup that close to the bridge. The amplitude of the strings vibration will be very small there.
