1. I'm really glad I got my EBS Neo 2x12 from the bloke down the road who changed a duff speaker "just like that". I would think long and hard before I bought Epifani.
2. Hi Mods - any chance of getting this or this pinned so we dont have multiple random threads - seeing as weve got two already?
3. Hi Mods - any chance of getting this pinned so we dont have to keep bumping it?
4.
there is no replacement for displacement.
Reminds me of Carrol Shelby - there's no substitute for cubic inches The thing is with 2 cabs you have the option to use one or both. If you get one big cab you have to use it. And you aint gonna carry a 6x10 in one hand!
5. In fairness Neils own basses look a lot better than this!
6. see here
7. +1 for the DI - I dont use it myself but lots do. Less convinced about the x-over, not a lot of people run true bi-amp.
8. See here for lots more on strings.
9. There was a long and informative thread on bass talk - shame you did not ask before it was deleted.
10. Most of the UK's custom builders "own" pickups are Kent Armstrong - same as their "own" pre-amps are John East.
11. Jaco-tastic. I use status hotwire half rounds on mine.
12. I think the headstock size is an artefact of the angle the photos were taken - its a common feature of photos that are taken from above. Still don't mean it's a 66 mind. The bit I like is it looks brand new - possible if its been in a case under someones bed for 40 years, but there is no hard case! No bids - I wonder why.
13. Depends how you define best. I used mine with 2 x 4 ohm 210's to get full beans.
14. My GB's. I had a 1980 Ibanez Musician fretless that I loved playing but it just got too heavy for my poor old back so I paid a visit to Bernie Goodfellow GB Guitars who is quite local and said I wanted a four string fretless Spitfire with a neck exactly the same as the Ibanez. Game on. I dont dig basses that want to be furniture so fancy woods were out, although Bernie could not resist using a fancy bit of maple for the neck. Thought long and hard about the colour but in the end decided it had to be black with chrome, standard Spitfire build (GB Pups, GB Active, Schaller 200 Bridge and Hipshot Ultralights). Its made from swamp ash so is nice and light. I did consider a Status Retro in black but I wanted an in-between neck and Status only did P or J. One extra was some rather fetching blue LED's as playing fretless on a blacked out stage can be a bitch. Like most builders Bernie has a formula and models that he likes to use as a starting point (the Rumour shape is inspired by the silhouette of a naked woman with a comfortable bottom sitting down). Of course you can vary considerably from the standard build but it can cost more and if it is particularly time consuming he might decide not to take it on because it means making all the other customers wait longer for their babies. But I wanted something different with frets so I had a Spitfire based P bass made. Swamp Ash again in fiesta red with a snot green plate. 69 P Pup, EBS Active, Hipshot Ultra and Hipshot Model A strung through. Looks and sounds very different.
15. I used a T-Max for years and it was a very good amp. Unlike most hybrid amps it had a pre and post volume control on the valve channel so you could get just the right amount of drive. Peavey also have a solid reputation for reliability unlike Ampeg.
16. You could always get something like this made, there are lots that will.

18. Here is my custom take on the P bass. I love it.
19. When I started playing the shop I used did not have a bass player on the staff so I used to try everything out for them, even using basses for gigs. This was late 70's/Early 80's. I have to say that the fenders were universally pants and a lot of the musicman basses were nearly as bad (this was after Leo sold it to do G&L). The best basses in the shop were Ibanez (think Musician) by a country mile - thats why I bought them. They even had a Wal Pro II with a bent neck!
20.
Another thought -- it would be interesting to compare this bass with Mike's Shuker (see Build Diary nearby) when they both arrive. They're both transparent blue with matching headstock, flame maple top, birdseye board and Nordstrands. Maybe we can stage some sort of Anglo American heavyweight custom title bout. And in the blue corner ... and in the other blue corner ... I'll get my people to have a word with Mike's people. Cheers Mark
And in the black corner we can have my GB's.
21. Robert Palmer - Pressure Drop Bass by some bloke called Kenny Gradney and some bloke called James Jamerson.
22. You want to hear a p bass in action. Anything by James Jamerson. All Who albums before Quadrophenia (Tommy, Who's Next, most played with Frankenstien). All the classic Stax/Atlantic stuff played by the Duckster (Sam and Dave, Otis, Arethea etc) Enough to get you started.
23.
thank you to everyone.....somebody knows where i can listen some sample about flatwound string on bass guitar? or some musician that's sure use this kind of strings??? Thanks!
Anything played by James Jamerson!
24. James Jamerson Thunder Fingers Andy Fraser - still only a teenager when Free recorded All Right Now and Mr Big Jimmy Blanton - as everyone else is chosing guys I've never heard of Bruce Foxton
25. The most famous exponent of bi-amping was the Ox. He started off using Marshall and Hiwatt valve amps with one set having the bass turned up full and another set with the treble turned up full. The full history of the Ox's search for sonic nirvana via bi and even tri amping should be available on the internet somewhere on a Who website. Ashdown used to make a range of cabs with horn loaded bass cabs for John. I tried it myself with two Peavey bass combo's which had built in crossovers but it did not work very well. There always used to be Peavy pre-amps with built in crossovers but I've not looked recently.
