1. I have not seen a figure quoted for impedence of the cabs or the amp. Maybe the cabs are 12 ohms or the amp goes down two 3 8ohm cabs but not 2 ohms. Still not sure of the cab sizes but where can I try one?

  2. Im not familiar with the ESP range so cant really say much about them. What I do know is everyone is raving about the Squire VM range. Other than that the budget Ibanez are pretty damn good. Its a job to really say without knowing what you are into and where you are, and deciding what to buy based on what you have read on the internet is not always the best idea.

What have your local shops got that you can try?

  3.
Here ya go. I think it would look great with a bright white paint job... not so sure with the off white... guess you'd have to lay them out together for a better idea. We both know though, that to be honest, hardware colour are the last thing on your list!
Thats a hipshot model A. Was thinking maybe gold but they dont do the aluminium bridge in gold.

  4.
I agree - the media have an awful lot to answer for reference this current financial situation. Still it's an easy story for them every day and they have got what they wanted nobody buying bugger all and the country in a mild state of panic!

    Rant over.
+1 the issue is confidence, or lack of, and that comes from the media ;)
Well the fingerboard I have chosen worked well on Gabbie so it should look good with my Rumour at it has black american walnut facings too - we will see soon enough.
Yes, as Bernie said to me when we was talking about it; you pay, you say. Its gonna seriously add to the build time cos he has to build another neck. Rumours take loads longer to build than Spitfires like mine that are basically 3 bits of wood cos all the bits have to be glued together.

  5.
Obviously you attribute more influence to my opinion than I do. I didn't mean for it to be malicious so I apologise to jhsteel. Hutton, how about you spend as much effort openly criticising other members who make gratuitiously sexist or antagonistic posts for example?
Who? Me? Thats not what you said when you erroneously accused me of undermining sales threads!
Have another bump jhsteel BTW, hope it sells soon. I actually looked at my rig over the weekend and started wondering whether I could do with another one...
You know it makes sense.

  6.
Cross post time go!

In all fairness its not the most obvious cross post. I want!

  7. There are lots of options for powering pedals. What you need to know is the polarity and the voltage. Most pedals have the DC input marked with a symbol that tells you what this is, but some dont so the only way you can be sure is to get their supply. That is usually marked so once you have that, if you have enough pedals to justify it, you can get a power supply to do the lot.

  8.
The Ampeg 8x10 design works so well because each pair of 10 inch speakers is in its own sealed space i.e. 4 lots of 2x10's.
If you remove the grille you will see these 'compartments'. I've always felt that this had a lot to do with why they sound so good,
especially as the speakers themselves are nothing special-for some reason it just works when you get 8 of them in that cabinet!
So maybe not quite the same as stacking 2 cabinets with 4x10's in?
Thats why I said it depends on the cabs. Some Ampeg 4x10's are built the same way as the 8x10's. Not all 8x10's are built like Ampegs.

  9. Look good. Ampeg did a similar amp with 4 presets a few years ago but nobody bought them. The LED's on the input volume worked as a VU meter when you were playing as well. Did not have all the other bits mind.

  10.
Good move on not touching the black Spitfire! Hmm... you have gone for the colour / neck scheme I was talking about with Bernie only two days ago! Did you see the two tone silver bridges that he has got. They look the business and would look fantastic on a white bass... I'm looking forward to seeing that one. Hell, I'm looking forward to seeing them all.
No did not see the 2 tone bridges. I will probably go for the lightweight Hipshot A and thru body stringing. I dont think you need the high mass bridge with string thru. Was thinking black hardware but not so sure now I have thought about it a bit more.
Yeah, the single coils certainly offer a different sound to the humbuckers... I know you aren't a slap guy but they really perform. The lowfi option on the switch is a nice option. Whether I'll stick with it... well, I've got a few gigs to try it out on first so we'll see!
Just thinking of different sound options but as I cant slap wont slap I might be better off sticking with the buckers. Its gonna have a Rumour curcuit, the black one is the old circuit, and having frets its gonna sound different as well. Bernie is going to try and find a very light alder body instead of swamp ash.

  11.
My rig used to consist of a 1x15 and 4x10.After reading the threads that lemmywinks mentioned i tried 2 4x10's and the results were very good indeed.I get a lot more clarity at the bottom end and very nice midrange bark using the 2 410's.Just for interests sake would running 2x 410's be the same as 1 8x10 ?? It's just got me thinking is all.
It obviously depends on the cabs but I have always thought of 2 4x10's as an 8x10 in installments :P

Glad someone has benefitted from me banging on about mixing cabs ;)

  12. Yes. USA made basses that go for a lot less than equivalent vintage Fender and Gibson unfortunately. There have been a few come up so it might be worth doing a search on "For Sale" to see what they went for.

  13. Spent a while laying out fingerboards and painted bodies (sounds dirty). We both decided the black one played and sounded too good to f*** about fretting it so I am keeping it fretless and have ordered another fretted Spitfire. Its gonna be burnt white (like old english white on old jags) with an ebony FB. It was that or sunburst and lizard wood but I think the other combination looked better.

Thinking about single coils though after what Russ has been saying.

Had a look at the fingerboard debate and I prefer the original, sorry.

And finally, Bernie has some fat bastard tee's on order.

  14.
Ditto. I am a Beck vigin, which is a surprise really considering my age and musical influences over the years. I thought he was amazing. Ive never seen so much feel in a player. Not overawed by the bass player. All that great gear didn't sound very clever IMO. I came to the conclusion that the dirty old sod must be shagging her. :brow:
Dirty lucky old sod ;)
