1. As a famous player (I think it was Jamerson) once said, the funk is in the fingers. You can buy all the gear that player X uses, and believe me stick around here and you will see plenty of clones, put if you dont play like they do you wont sound like they do. The Ox always sounded like the Ox no matter what he was playing, even though some people did not like his later sound it was always Ox sound.
2. My GB has a flashing LED behind the transparent cavity cover. It's a lot of money to pay for a batter check though.
3.
..snip Just noticed you're using a TD650 and 2x 2x10's. If I was looking at a more portable rig for practise, could I safely run the TD650 through 1 2x10?
Yes. If it starts making farty noises turn it down or reduce the bass eq.
4. Rosetti do seem to be taking their time getting it together
5. Well I can only assume from a lack of reply to my request that there are technical issues. As databases are my day job I thought I would mention that its a good idea to do housekeeping before the database ground to a halt. That happened with bassworld and I had to help the admin to sort it. Perhaps you should think about it now. You can start by deleting all the threads with C**t in them
6. Half rounds vary. Some are as dull as flats (Elites) and some are as bright as nickels (Galli - but cant get them any more). The Status are at the brighter end but its been so long since I dried D'addario I cant remember, but I did not stick with them. Used Dean Markley for a long long time but just could not get them and I think they dont make them now.
7.
Usually 2 cabs will sound better than 1 cab because the amp will be running at 4 ohm giving more power, in your case 300 watts rather than 200-ish watts, but the real difference is the improved tone from the extra speakers shifting more air. When you come to an extension cab try another 2x10. It will have more "punch" than a 15 but should go just as deep.
+1 Dont be convinced you "have" to get a 1x15. If you preferred a 2x10 to the 1x15 then you will probably prefer 2 2x10's to a 2x10/1x15.
8. Thats a lot more robust than most keyboard stands and looks up to the job.
9. Some basses have an XLR balanced output as well as jack. The only amp I know that does phanom power is EBS through a stereo jack lead. You would have to save a lot of batteries to pay for one.
10. My Black Spitfire with side LED's was £1800. But it was a few years ago. A lot depends on the spec and you can easy get to £5K for a Rumour with exotic woods, full LED show etc.
11. The power rating of cabs is largely irrelevant - if you start hearing farty noises back off the volume or bass boost. For technical reasons mixing cabs can produce unpredicatable results and the classic 1x15/2x10 is not always the best option; but if you like how it sounds who cares about the science.
12. If you are that bothered why not try one of the custom builders in and around london. GB, Sei and Zoot spring immediately to mind.
13. Is the scale length measured between the bridge and the nut or the total length of the string including through body and wraps round the post ?
14. I have some EBS strings on my KSD but the bottom 4 of a 5 string set. They are much brigher than my usual strings but as I usually use Status Hotwire halfs and TI JF thats not difficult. They also feel quite sharp on the fingers but I have not got any other rounds to compare them to. You can get EBS strings from Bernie Goodfellow.
15. Fascinating - just about the time I started playing bass. And you can buy a mex Fender now for the same price as a USA was 30 years ago, and an SM58 is actually cheaper now!
16. I had a DR103 but sold it. Stupid stupid stupid!
17. There are lots of ACG owners and the man himself on basschat. And over on Finnbass as well.
18. The Dobbins boys showing off their education and sh*t hot sales techniques again. Is the it? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=34166&hl=
19. Maybe you should have got a 4 string fretless Rumour
20. Your bass is good. Peavey Tour 450 is good. I gigged with Peavey for 20 odd years. Not sure if the Behringher cab has the best rep for longevity. Every Peavey rig I had was Black Widow except the last (2 2x10XF or whatever) but not sure if they still do Black Widows. I might see if I could stretch to a better cab.
21.
I wouldn't describe my Mark Bass LMII as Hi Fi whatsoever, in fact if anything it's quite old school with its VLE control. I understand the F1 has a bit more presence as standard so that would be a bit Hi Fi I guess. MB make a variety of gear for a variety of applications, hey they even have an all valve head these days! Glad you're liking the 2x10 Mr T.
And without the VLE control? I tried a few Markbass heads into Berg cabs, with EBS and Genz Benz rigs and there was not a lot of difference. The non neo Berg cabs made the most difference but we were not trying for old skool.
22. Other way round. The best ones are the SGC Nanyo.
23. And according to the interview in BGM Robbie Shakespeare now plays Markbass.
24. Its a different sound, but not lacking in bottom end. Not sure if it is a rig I would use if I was in a dub/reggae band like Rasta and Redstripe, but when I roll of the top and boost the bottom it does not sound too shabby. Like all the modern hi-fi amps like Markbass and EBS, there is a lot more going on up top, and that means you can hear it better when playing in the pubs and clubs. I have had a lot less complaints from the other guys in the band about me being too loud since I swapped my old school Peavey for the EBS rig I had before this. And if you dont like the sparkle you can turn it down with the tone controls, whereas if its not there in the first place you cant dial it in.
