Ampeg SVT-VR - now thats heavy at 88lbs. I would call 26lbs lightweight myself. I play rock and pop covers and I use a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 and 2 NeoX112T cabs. Like this: Its not dull, but then I like a bright sound; I can hear it better cos my ears are f***ed over 4K.

Quick update on my new/dodgy amp situation

But if the amp is not actually working (as in amplifying something) then will it get hot? -
Quick update on my new/dodgy amp situation

If it was damaged in transit then I would look for a loose or bad connection from the power supply. Like steve says the only bit of circuit the amp and fan are likely to have on common are the on/off switch and power supply ! -
Just had a look at the manual on the Eden website, cos I thought the balance might only work in bi-amp mode but it does do L+R as well. Very comprehensive manual. Nice one.

What he said -
Dull; Deep; Whats the difference? Like I said - you may like dull. Thats interesting info on the cabs - thanks for that. According to Edens website the WT800 is 26 lbs, or 12kg in foreign money. Have you got it in one of those cast iron rack cases

I tried an ABM rig a few years back and found it D U double L dull. But you may like dull, if dull is not compulsory for reggae and dub. Horses for courses. My experience is that when I had a Peavey 115BW and 210TX the 210 went much deeper. YMMV. I would be interested to compare the resulting cab to cabs like the Dr Bass DRB112LF, Aguillar GS112NT or a Bergantino EX112ER. I find Eden's approach confusing, very light amps and very heavy cabs. I think only their 112XLT comes in under 20KG, and the neo 210 is 49 lbs in english money.

I tried the peavey bi-amp with a TNT150 and a Combo 300 and was underwhelmed so I sold them both and got a 450watt Database combo. Ridiculously loud for a small box but it was heavy, I mean really heavy. There is a lot of lightweight gear around now but it is still quite expensive. Try as much as you can and remember that what you really want is decibels so look for cabs with a high sensitivity - usually measured in decibels at 1 watt at 1 meter, although sometimes bass extension is sacrificed to get it. Take a trip to the Bass Merchant and try some stuff out - then look for similar SH.

I was only offering an explanation. Jeez ! If it sounds good it is good, although standing a few feet in front of your rig you will probably only hear the top cab anyway. IMO.
-
Bernie has been known to stick them on with double sided tape - scratchplates that is. My red one is screwed on though but its a lot bigger than the normal ones.

Never been a big fan of Ashdown myself. You are also propogating the myth that only 15's go deep, it simply is not true. If you are intending to use both cabs full range then the usual caveats apply, mixing cabs can give unpredicatble results and you do not always get the sum of the parts. Replacing drivers is also something that should not be done without checking the compatability of the cab and drivers. But if you are happy with the sound then bollocks to the science.
-
Glad you enjoying building the new rig. Are you intending to run the rig bi-amp with the crossover on the eden? If you are then you dont need a 15 cab with a tweeter so that can save a knats chuff off the scales and price. Lightweight cabs with just a 15 are thin on the ground - the Dr Bass LF cabs that Robbie is doing spring to mind. Other than that there is Alex's compact, or choice of quite a few 12 inch cabs without tweeters.
-
I am a big fan of having 2 cabs the same; having a sh*t sound from a 1x15 and 2x10 stack, IMO, and got a much better sound IMO with 2 2x10 cabs. The volume of a cab is not the only thing that changes with frequency, phase can also be different between different cabs so at some frequencies it can cause phase cancellation, where one cab is pushing air and the other sucking, which means less volume at those frequencies.
-
And you can't use the cab with the head unless you rewire the cab. Presume its 8 ohm speakers speakers that are paired in seiries and the pairs wired in parallel. So what you need to do is rewire the pairs in parallel so you get your 2 ohms. There is some info on the basschat wiki about wiring drivers. Never understood why Ampeg dont have a 8 ohm tap. To make you buy their cabs I suppose. IIRC my old Hiwatt had 4, 8 and 16.
Many thanx one and all for the help. Only problem now is that I've cut a plucking finger by leaving a sharp knife in the washing up bowl. I was hoping that the cut wouldn't be through the skin or not quite in the place I play with. No chance I just hate cutting my hands. Blood on the strings.
Google sods law!

Where have you been - the bass of doom has been found. The Funk Machine is still missing.
-
Bernie fine tunes my GB's for me. Thats part of any decent luthiers after sales.
-
Another +1 for status hotwires. But the path to string nirvana is a long and expensive one and so much depends on personal taste. Start with the cheapest
-
Yes. The whole endorsement thing is one of the less savoury sides of the business. Mark King would be playing GB basses but Bernie would not give him a hnadful of Rumours because he would have had to charge this other customers more to cover the costs. Good or bad move from Bernies point of view I dont know. It did mean none of my money ended up in Mark King's pocket. How many King Basses has Rob Green sold and how much was paid to Mark as a result; we will probably never know.

LOL - that P pup is not original anyway -
Yes - the DR Bass Offset 4x10 is narrower and taller. Some of the tec-amp cabs are quite small as well.
-
I read on google that mixing different cabs without some sort of crossover can give unpredictable results.

Hard to say without better pic's but looks like a later one to me. The proper BC's have Gotoh tuners and have SGC embossed on the pups. As to price I've been offered £200 for my SGC one but realistically a later one will be somewhat less - so not a lot. Still probably very nice basses.
