1. Another +1 for hearing protection. Perhaps a more articulate rig would help.
2.
But the EBS Mircobass II is much better, but also cost more.

But remember that is an opinion and not fact.
Of course. It is the opinion of everybody who has used both in my opinion
3.
No... it don't work that way. The mixing desk takes a balanced input (not the low level unbalanced from your bass) and isn't designed to EQ bass anyway. The sans-amp is pretty much the industry standard.
But the EBS Mircobass II is much better, but also cost more.
4. You dont need an amp for studio work unless you have a sound you can only get that way. Most recording is just DI. know nowt about pedals except that individual pedals are usually better than multi effects unless you spend loads. Multi effects that cost the same as one decent pedal just wont be as good.
5.
...........Ferret - Surely I'm still mixing drivers? Although they're all tens it's eminence betas in the 2x10 and peavey ones in the 410, and the enclosures themselves are surely tuned differently anyway? Whatever's going on I'm enjoying the sound. The 15 never really did it for me, even by itself, was hoping it'd have a lot more lowend than it did, sounded almost more midrangey than the 210, or at least had a less 'round' sounding bottom end but without the punchier highs of the 210............
You are probably right - I was being a bit facetious. Its not the tuning frequency that matters though, but how the outputs of the two cabs are summed. Phase changes with frequency and if it changes at different frequencies for different cabs thats when you get phase cancellation and 'unpredictable' sound. When that is a function of cabs or drivers or both I dont know - thats where Alex cames in. Does disprove the big cabs go lower myth.
6.
I know that Shuker seems to be the luthier of choice on Basschat, but for me, you'll have to go a very long way indeed to beat Overwater for playability, tone and sheer quality of build.
They just make more noise
7.
..........And it sound great, I thought the 2x10 and 15 handled the low B fine, but with this new setup I've realised what I've been missing out on..........
Thats what you get for mixing drivers
8.
On another note phoned Dawn to find out they are not making anymore Smartbasses.
Thats a surprise cos when they launched they were taling about extending it to the retro-active but they stopped making them as well.
9. Stop chasing rainbows and buy the f***ing GB! You aint never gonna be satisfied if tou carry on like this, like a teenage virgin with w*** mags.
10. Get one built within a sensible travelling time so you can see it, feel it, touch it and most of all collect it. Or just get the f***ed one fixed.
11. Welcome back! This is where bassworld ended up I blame the fish
12.
....Just noticed you are Cheltenham based, do you know Aroundabout sound by any chance? The owner is selling his GB spitfire, it is absolutely stunning but it is a four string (didn'y know what you were after)...........
Sounds like an offer you cant refuse
13. You could have tried posting here
14. There are a few Overwater users on here - have you tried the search? How did you arrive at your shortlist? No GB, ACG, Status or Shuker?
15. Regret selling this one.
16. Agreed it is a great album and the Jacksons stuff from the time was great as well. Before MJ went all white Thriller is a great album as well - it is easy to forget the impact at the time and Billy Jean is a fabulous groove that sounds easy but is a bitch to get the feel right.
17. Just playing devils advocate But there is one specific feature with GK, the 50 watt tweeter amp that only works with GK cabs.
18.
GK heads + Hartke cabs work pretty well together. Clean and aggressive without being harsh or sterile.
But do they work better than GK cabs with a GK amp, or Hartke Cabs with Hartke amp?
19.
................. Due to the amount of cut and boost available on a GB preamp, most GB players will play the EBS amps pretty flat, with the character switch in and let the bass do the majority of the tone shaping..............
Not me. I know a lot of people do this but if you use the eq on the bass to get your sound you could end up with nowhere to go if you want to change it. And I never used the character (slap) switch, boosted the mids about 1K to bring out the mwah on the fretless - job done.
20.
...The ears do start to shut down to protect themselves over time which is why we all turn up as the gig goes on to maintain the 'volume adrenaline rush'
Did not work with mine
21. Sansamp Programmable BDDI or EBS Microbass II if you are using it as an excuse for GAS
22. And of course he was mixing cabs with "unpredictable" results I bet 2 2x12's would have sounded better.
23. Yes EBS does have a lot of sparkle but you dont have to use it. When you use somebody elses gear the convention is you dont f*** about with their settings and being the gentleman you are I doubt you f***ed about much. When I had the HD350/Neo212 I used the turn the bright knob all the way off and the tweeter down to 11 o'clock. Worked for me.
24. Unfortunately the belief that you need 15's and 18's to get deep bass is a common fallacy. If you get full range cabs you can always turn the treble down and the tweeters off - but if you decide at a later date you need more top you wont be able to dial it in if the cabs cant make it. 18's are not very popular these days but they do shift lots of air if the cabs are up to it but they usually are not simply because a cab large enough to make the most of an 18 woukd be too large to handle. +1 for Dan's comments about being overkill. If you need that much you should be going into a PA that can handle it and the drums mic'ed.
25. Not sure that mod'ing wont devalue the bass even more.
