1. They look like rotosound Piano Strings where just the core goes over the bridge - not the same as tapered.
2.
Got one thanks - just signed up. It's easy. Content looks really good. If they'd post it to the UK, I'd probably pay to subscribe. Reading it on a screen is ok, but you can't beat sitting on the sofa with a proper mag and a big cup of strong, milky tea!
And you cant read it sitting on the throne - unless you have a laptop
3. Whats your budget and are you thinking of a new custom build to your specs? A Bongo 5HH is gonna be a lot cheaper than the other options.
4. Well it does suggest the shop has re-opened. They were trading just as an e-tailer.
5.
If it turns out to be pants I will be blaming you lot!
Which is why I will never tell anybody what to buy. There is no guarantee they will like what I like.

7.
The Americans have a saying about car engines that "there ain't no substitute for cubic inches"
That was the great Caroll Shelby who threw away the 2 litre engine in an AC Ace, chucked in a 5 litre V8 instead and called it a Cobra.
8. Delivered from temptation.
9. BC Rich Zombie bit cheaper
10. Warwick Vampyre - not cheap though
11.
Love it or hate it it's an iconic bass in punk. I'm itching to get my very own, unfortunately there are no production models - only custom shops (I think) Anyone know if there's any sneaky similar basses out there?
Try google
12. nice job fitting the strings
13. I had a cab shootout at Bass Direct with my old EBS vs Genz Benz (GBE750 and NeoX112T) and Markbass/Bergantino (think is was LM2 and F1 into HT/EX112) and they all sounded pretty damn good. We did a bit of mixing and matching as well but not really an A/B. The thing that put me off the Bergs was the weight and the weight of the GBE750 put me off as well - so getting a GBE750 sound without the weight seemed like a great idea so I ordered the Shuttle. Mark would be happly to lay on a demo and A/B if you can get to Kenilworth.
14. That looks like it. I guess the closest modern bass is a Fender Jag or Lakland Decade.
15. Like others I am not convinced about MarkBass cabs, there are a lot more Basschatters using the amps rather than using the cabs, and you cant have a combo without the cabs.
16. Funny thing - discussion of this thread is still going on over on Finnbass
17. I had an ebs neo 110/112 stack - sounded pretty good despite mixing driver sizes. The 110 would run out of puff first though.
18. Theres plenty on here have stuck a Fender transfer on basses that are not Fender.
19. Think about it - the UL110 probably has the same tweeter as the UL310, although I'm not an expert on Epifani cabs.
20. The reason the tweeters are adjustable is so they can be adjusted! The reason amps have tone controls is so they can be adjusted! Within the bounds of the first rule of Alex: You can use any power ouput amp with any power handling cab. If any of these combinations makes bad sounds then turn down and/or stop cranking the bass EQ excessively or damage may occur
21. Back to the first law of Alex again: You can use any power ouput amp with any power handling cab. If any of these combinations makes bad sounds then turn down and/or stop cranking the bass EQ excessively or damage may occur
22.
I guess the sensitivity of the cab is also important (the MB is 100db/W) - or is this tosh?
No - if you have a high sensitivity cab you need less watts. I gigged happily for years with 100 watts and a sensitive cab. One of the guys who regularly plays in one of the pubs I drink in uses an old Selmer Treble and Bass 50. When I started playing there were not many amps that put out more than 200 watts and we was all gigging quite happily.
23. Looks like it - a surprise to me.
24. A good cab is a good cab, irrespective of the amp.
25. You wont regret it
