1. I would if I could
2. to quote the first rule according to Alex: You can use any power ouput amp with any power handling cab. If any of these combinations makes bad sounds then turn down and/or stop cranking the bass EQ excessively or damage may occur I too would be tempted to junk the home made cab. Whether you use a combo or head and cab is a matter of personal choice and transport considerations. But with heads as tiny as some of the new Class D designs I think there are plenty of head/cab combinations that are conna be smaller than most giggable combo's - but they cost.
3. Did your cab have a crossover - if not it should probably have one.
4. Depends if its lined and where the side dots are.
5. What is it you like - the shape or the sound?
6. Here it is. Maybe not that big and long
7. There was a big big long long thread on straps a while back with loads of different and sometimes exotic suggestions. Perhaps it should be pinned.
8. Sorta jag-ish
9.
I think hamster was being a tad sarcastic there .....
Perhaps you should read the article about impedence on the basschat wiki
10. Some sort of Fender Jag?
11. Well the Warwick Rackbag was what I was thinking of - but thats a semi hard case. Having looked a bit further they all seem to be padded rack cases rather than a bag
12. Have you tried google? There are loads of soft cases for 2U out there!
13. Dont forget that backing the guitar volume is the same as reducing the input level on the amp as that is usually the first thing in the amp. Always best to keep the guitar volume up. As for vibration being transferred though the bridge - it does happen with cheaper bridges.
14.
So a distorting tube power amp can damage speakers just like a clipping solid-state power amp ?
yes. Ampeg developed the 8x10 cab because it was the only way to get enough drivers to cope with the 300 watt SVT.
15. I'm playing at the Kings Head on 4th October - come and have a listen.
16. Thats a combo with an extension cab - call it what you like. PJB has divided opinions.
17. There is a very smooth valve distortion if you turn the pre up (marked gain), light up the clip light, and turn the post (marked volume) down. There is also a master volume. Having the gain at 9 o'clock and the volume at 3 o'clock gives a nice clean sound. Having the gain at 3 o'clock and the volume at 9 o'clock gives a good tube distortion. Having both at twelve o'clock is nice and warm.
18. I have a stainless steel pick of doom! I use half round strings so no grating. It sounds like you would imagine. I dont use it often.
19.
What about all tube amplifiers? I know they don't clip or if they clip is not dangerous for speakers.
What part of
Alex Clabbers first rule applies to any amplifier driving any speaker.
did you not understand?
20.
Brighton!?!? Typical, I live in the most northwestern part of Wales!
He is the distributor - not the retailer.
21.
(snip) feeding a high power speaker with a low power amp distorting like crazy would possibly screw the speaker relatively fast.(snip)
Alex Clabbers first rule applies to any amplifier driving any speaker.
22. The Shuttle can be clean or dirty, depending on how you fiddle with the knobs. Dont think the same can be said of the LMII.
23. I have only used the neo but the 212 I had was a fabulous cab. If you want sparkle its the one to have - the proline are more old skool but lots of guys prefer that to the neo sparkle. I loved the weight.
24. You will have to give the distributors a ring - I know Sound Control had EBS in a number of their stores.
25. The Shuttle 6.0 and the LMII are not really the same - the MarkBass R500 is most like the Shuttle 6.0. Having the two knobs on the Shuttle gives you great control over the valve.
