1. Sorry mate but I for one am not going to tell you what to buy. I am going to tell you to make the effort to listen to the cabs you are interested in and buy the one you like best.
2. You beat me to it - the first law according to Alex Claber: You can use any power ouput amp with any power handling cab. If any of these combinations makes bad sounds then turn down and/or stop cranking the bass EQ excessively or damage may occur
3. Then maybe he should try another proline 4x10 to create an 8x10 by installments.
4.
Instant love! So much so that I'm now looking at possibly shifting the EBS stuff, something I would have never believed I'd be considering a short while ago.
I cant help thinking that going to Ashdown from EBS would be a backward step. Although I am not convinced your cab combination is right and I would not be surprised if the cabs sound better on their own. The HD350 is super clean and I would expect a Fafner to be more like the Ashdown.
5. Not tried all the combinations you have listed but I am very happy with my rig, and I've not connected both cabs yet!
6. The two original super-combo's were the SWR Super Redhead and the Eden Metro, and I suspect they are more than capable of holding their own against the sweeping statement that a rig would blow them away. They are both heavy as f*** though. Lightweight alternatives include the MarkBass and EBS NeoGorm of similar power.
7. Its sold by the same shops that sell the Gramma pads and is made by the same firm.
8. Peavey did two cabs, 1516 with a 15 amd two 8's, and an 1820 - leave you to work that one out. Long time ago mind but they still pop up and I saw a guy using a 1516 with an old MK 4 a few weeks ago. The Peavey cabs had a crossover and I expect the Ashdown will as well, so the usual issues of mixing drivers wont apply. Trace did a cab with a 1x15 (I think) and 4x10 to go with the AH1000. All of these are gonna be hard to find. The nearest equivalent are going to be Dr Bass or Alex Clabers cabs with a 15 and 6 inch midrage, or Accugrove if you got loads a money.
9.
Why do you need seperate power amps and preamps? Just more stuff to lug around.
Agreed. And blowing all your budget on a preamp and connecting it to the cheapest power amp and cabs you can get is not a sound plan.
10. Well ian keeps on tying to sell his EBS rig HD350 and 4x10 but I doubt he will ship - he cant even be bothered to put any effort into selling it. You should be able to pick up something quite tidy second hand for that budget. Keep your eyes peeled.
11. Mark King used to tape his thumb IIRC.
12. Yes I would definitely go along with the 2 small cabs recommendation. Its all very well going for the rig of doom but it seems to me you are not going to know where you can keep if and how much you are going to move it. And the first thing you are goona learn on the course is you dont need all that SPL! Rack tuners are overkill - just get a TU2 or DT10 or the strobo equivalent if you are feeling flush.
13. I was asking because I have a theory that Ashdowns rep for wooliness is due to their 1x15 cabs.
14. Most music shops have a board up for local bands to advertise for players - have you looked there? Also Friday Ad has a musicians wanted section.
15. There are loads of websites selling bags and stuff - just google. Some of the DJ sites have some cool bags.
16. What was the speaker config?
17. Good score.
18. Yep - all of the above and you should be the best judge of whether you need a drink. All I can add is what I said before - try and check the venue out when other bands are playing there, so you know how big the stage is, what the punters are like and whether the sound man is a twat.
19.
this has been covered before, I remember writing a lengthy post on it. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1074
And how come when you edit your posts it does not show?
20.
this has been covered before, I remember writing a lengthy post on it.
Maybe you should have put it in the wiki
21.
The 500rc is mirror chrome fronted. dependswhat its reflecting
Thank f*** for that! Thought I was going bonkers
22. This came up a few weeks ago; I still think what I said then
23.

Black

White
24.
I doubt there are many that will be able to give a real world comparison of these cabs and most of us will probably extol the virtues of the cabs that we have
Really?
25.
i got the second cab! here, i took a photo of it. Not a great photo, but hey. ashdown abm 500 rc, and two aguilar db112's.
Has the amp changed colour?
