People will generally tell you to go for whatever they have. I personally think that you should ignore them and get a Schroeder 1212L
Says the man telling you to buy what he has got I have listed most of the currently available 1x12 cabs on the basschat wiki so it might be worth taking a look at that. The small Schroeders have a big peak in the mids to increse percieved volume. If you like that sort of thing buy one.
Hi folks, i've got one of these old Eden WT800 amps and weirdly the minimum load is 8ohms for 800 watts, it doesn't take a sinle 4 ohm other than 4ohms a side (2 channels). So anyhow i am looking for an 8x10 (Ampeg, Ashdown etc)....anyone know of or heard where i can get an 8 ohm.....alternatively i already have an ampeg 4x10 4 ohm....if i was to say purchase another Ampeg 4ohm how would i wire it to become 8ohms....please forgive my electrical dyslexia. Thanks Bass brethren
The short answer is no. Any you wont be able to rewire one from 4 to 8 ohms. The obvious answer is to run 2 4 ohm 4x10 cabs, one to each 4 ohm stereo output, and make an 8x10 in instalments. Even more so as you already have 1 4 ohm 4x10. If you don't know how to use it, why buy such a specialist amp? Just highlights the dangers of buying amps and cabs separately without thing about how they are going to work together.

Jack Bruce also uses Hartke, but like I said on Page 1, what the audience hears is almost always a DI.

Once upon a time, bass cabs never came with tweeters. It is a fairly recent innovation and if you like old skool you really dont need them. Sparkle is a good word to describe the affect of using one.

Mark at Bass Direct will have both on demo but I doubt many bass chatters have used both in anger. Sombody did prefer the R500 to the Shuttle 6, which is more of a direct competitor than the LMII.

Budget s/h blues-rock rig that sounds good?
Interested in this not mixing driver sizes thing...why's that? Thought it was fairly uncontroversial practice? (doesn't mean it's right, I s'pose - 10 billion flies etc)
See this post There is a huge difference in frequency response and sensitivty between Ashdown ABM115 and ABM210/410 cabs. When used in this combination I am not surprised at the bad sound. -
Just get a 5 string set of your favourite strings. Why do anything else?
The thing is everytime somebody posts a cab question they get told with great authority to get a 2x10/1x15 rig and its just plain wrong. Ok all the peeps using it may be happy with the sound and if its just stage monitoring who cares - unless its a big stage you wont hear the bottom cab anyway and it will just sound better cos its closer to your ears. But if the rig is FOH as well, and in a lot of small venues it must be, I'm betting that most have no idea what it sounds like FOH.

so what does it sound like FOH then?
Mine sounds great. We usually get a couple of ladies up from the audience to do BV's. If the stage is too small I wander off into the crowd with my wireless.

Lightweight and cheap dont often go together so best keep an eye on the for sale forum. Head and cab is more flexible than a combo. And ignore all those people telling you to mix 10's and 15's - they dont know what they are talking about. If you need two cabs use two the same. -
Eubassix has just sold a very nice one - shame you didn't decide this last week.

Peavey did a lot of bi-amp gear but it never really took off - probably why they dont tend to put crossovers in their amps any more. The 1516 was a beast - it had a big brother as well, the 1820. What was wrong with the Black Widow? Hope you matched the driver and cab specs.
I tend to use just the 2x10 for most gigs, just adding the 15 when I need some extra volume. I'm sure that the talk of phase cancellation etc is correct but I still like the sound I get from this set-up. I always DI the head into the PA so what the audience hears is dependant on that anyway.
Thats cool then cos its only your sound than matters.

any advice on easyest way to learn to pop and slap?
bass_ferret replied to valentine's topic in Theory and Technique
Slap is over-rated, a busted flush and most of the time is used inappropriately "cos I can". Thats why the only place you see slap now is on you tube and the only place you hear it is in music shops and bass bashes. If you dont need it, dont bother. -
Also where in London is the best place for this sort of stuff? BTW it's got a single soapbar pickup (Bartolini).
Look at the Recommended Luthiers sticky.
My completed rig and oh God it was worth the wait! In the rack is an Ampeg SVT-4 Pro, a Lego compressor and Korg DTR 2000B tuner with cool blue LEDs. The cab is a DR BASS 2460D. It goes down to 37Hz and up to 20KHz!!! This thing sounds huge, about 1000 watts, very tight bottom end, even at high volumes. I know Robbie at RIM customs had a few 2460s for sale and i cant recommend them enough. Cheers.
love it when the rack looks bigger than the cab
It adds the low end.... the 115 in my rig sounds rubbish on it's own, the 210 sounds pretty good, but i like having the 115 in there just to add that low end rumble to it, though it would be fine without it.
No - it adds phase cancellations and unpredictable sounds. How does adding, by your own admission, a rubbish sounding cab to a pretty good sounding cab make it sound better?

Through PA or Amp? Which is better?
If you do get a bit nervous before you go on, find a quiet place, and do the 7/11 breathing technique for a minute or two, in through the nose for a count of 7 and out through the mouth for a count of 11, or thereabouts. As long as the exhale is a few seconds longer than the inhale, you'll trick you brain into suppressing the fight or flight response.
Bollocks to that - a couple of bottles of Guiness on my first gig Good luck with the gig. It might be an idea to go and see other bands at the venue to check it out like. -
Yeah it's a 4 x 10 it is a bitch to get out of the basement, when I get some cash I wanna put a 15 under it to get a full tone.
What makes you think adding a 15 will get a full tone?

bass_ferret replied to valentine's topic in Theory and Technique
Dont bother. Unless you are going to be in some sort of 80's cover band, Chilli's style or jazz funk, or are hoping to get a career playing bass in shows and stuff, you dont need it. -
Why not put it in the Basschat wiki?

Sorry but ampeg model numbers can be a bit confusing. Is your amp the B15T Portaflex 100w valve flipop combo?
