There are other MarkBass heads - the R500 is very popular for tube warmth but dont know what the DI is like. I use a Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 that has a switchable DI pre/post (and line/mic and ground lift). Lots of amps have DI that is switchable pre/post - pretty sure my EBS was. Presume small lightweight is a given then the Eden WT260 is worth a look. There are some other Class D amps coming soon from GK and EBS.

How did you arrive at your shortlist? How did you eliminate the competition?
Can't you just use a switchable voltage one from Maplins?
The sneaky bastards dont say what current should be and the polarity of the connector. So you have to buy theirs or risk frying the thing cos you connected it the wrong way. -

I think there is a bit of crossed wires going on here. The OP and his sympathisers are not pro's like jake who do recording/pit/shows etc to put a roof over their faimilies heads and food on the table, but are trying to make a go of a band/ensemble playing original music. This can be a full time job with the old driving round the country in a beat up transit stereotype, for f*** all money but hey, they are young, free and single. The problem with this is if you dont get signed or move up the food chain gigs wise you can soon get really pissed off. And the thing is a lot of the medium sized venues are booking a lot of tribute acts rather than original bands. Even second division signed bands that were always looking for local support have lost out to this phenomena. I dont think the Legions and WMC's that I play in have ever had much of a market for originals bands.

Regulare readers will know I detest inappropriate slapping. It's largely cos bass players somehow think they have to be able to slap - it comes up on here all the time - so its a case of I spent hours learing this largely useless technique so I am gonna use it no matter how inappropriate.
It's seems the superfly has a weak eq. I took and moved all my sliders up 2 notches to run it flat!?!?!? Had a nice increase in volume.
Of course you did - what did you expect? It may not have been flat though as lots of graphics have overlapping frequency ranges.

Was it you that started the last epic on this subject Dave? Maybe it should be pinned.

Yes - its a good job I didn't include my NI number.
The Eden costs twice as much here as it does in America. If you have any friends or family there who are coming over here or friends going there on holiday, it is small enough to fit into a suitcase without much trouble.
Thats true of anything that has a voltage switch and does not require mods. You might have problems with after-sales if you buy from the US though.

Garbage In - Garbage Out. It you plug a cheap bass into an expensive amp you are gonna hear a cheap bass. There are lots of pro quality rigs for sale on here and pro quality basses as well. You only really need a couple of hundred watts to start drowing out a drummer and if the drums are mic'ed then the bass should go through the PA as well. Having more power than this is just showing off (he says with 600 watts) I would buy Ian's EBS HD350/Proline 410 for £800 and put the rest towards a bass.
-
basic is not how I would describe the superfly or little giant. They are cheap though. There is a gang of these now and in the future. Now the alternatives used by basschatters are Mark Bass, EA and Genz Benz. On the way are Epiphany and GK with EBS a bit further off.

Aguilar DB112s - come in green, tweed and brown as well as black and silver. Mark Bass are a bit yellow Genz Benz Shuttles are tiny.

+1 for the gramma pad but you sometime need to add some low end to make up for the reduced coupling with the stage. Thought there was a sticky on this and there is an article on the wiki about speaker position that can help reduce boom at some frequencies although venues that are normally affected by this kind of thing often have little choice of cab position. Any yes - the tone controls are there to tweak for room acoustics as well as your sound, which is why "your sound" should never have everything on full as it leaves no room for room acoustics. This is also why some players like to keep their EQ as flat as possible.
-
Added some of this to the wiki - hope you dont mind.
You can use any power ouput amp with any power handling cab. If any of these combinations makes bad sounds then turn down and/or stop cranking the bass EQ excessively or damage may occur. Simple.

Pity we can't have this printed at the top of the forum in BIG LETTERS. This is the simple answer to almost every amp/cab power handling question.
I've added it to the Wiki article on impedence and watts in the biggest letters I could. Hope you dont mind.
