1. I can guarantee this cab will take stupid watts and make stupid decibels. First cab I had where I gave up before the cab did. You can turn it down though
2. You will find lots of string factions on here. The DR, Elixir and TI Jazz Flats factions are probably the most prolific. I use Status Hotwire halfs and TI Jazz Flats, which dont sound like flats at all.
3. Considering I am not a fan of slapping I have got most of the Level 42 albums. I liked it but as others have said it was of its time. Still play them occasionally. He is a tart when it comes to gear though and will only play what is given to him. Rob and Mark are obviously happy to do this and the sales of King basses possibly justifies it - but Bernie could not afford to give him a hand full of Rumours so he stopped using GB's. Bernie possibly under estimated the selling power of his name, which does come as a surprise to me. Not sure if this makes him a nice guy or not, or just sharp? What I dont understand is why slapping is still such a big thing, like all reviews of basses say if they are any good for slapping and lots of amps still have the pre-shape to boost top and bottom and cut mids - I call it a slap switch. And there are loads of guys on here agonising cos they are bad slappers and dont get me started on all the slapping on you tube. Music shops and trade fairs are also full of slappers, and bass bashes by all accounts. But when was the last time you heard slapping on the radio or saw someone slapping on Jools (or any other contemporary music show), or at Glasto (or any other festival). The worlds slappers can't all be in Level 42 tribs or 80's cover bands.
4. Finn over on Finnbass has collated all of the best internet guides so I put a link in the wiki. It was removed by the mods.
5. Only done 1 gig with my Shuttle. So far so good. Unlike many I changed from a more expensive amp - an EBS HD350 - and I am pleased to say the Shuttle sounds as good with a bit more dirt and a bit less clean.
6.
True.....But we still pay a pros price for the custom and 'different'.
We have got proper jobs and can afford it
7. Instruments are tools for the the pro's. For us amateurs they are toys
8. Its not really a question of buying the most expensive drivers you can get but buying drivers that are the best match for the cab. When I was a lad and the only decision bass players had to make was whether to use one or two 15 inch drivers Electrovoice were the dogs danglies.
9. Well somebody must be buying the more exotic stuff or they would be out of business. Dont forget a lot of pro's are paid to use a particular brand or buy it at discount prices - its called endorsements. The other thing to remember that acts playing Wembley will probably be DI'd and the rig on stage plays no part in FOH sound. Half the time its probably only there for appearance - like Geddy Lee's washing machines. Look how many are wireless and in-eared!
10. Contrary to what was said in this thread I have never had an active bass with a trim on the preamp gain. I know some actives have this, plus also trims on mid frequency, but it is by no means universal. Is this your first active bass? If it is then you should use the tone controls carefully. The treble and bass may have a notch in the flat position. Most do but some (Musicman) do not. Set flat active basses are often no hotter than passive basses. I always start with my basses set flat and EQ on the amp to get the room sound I want. Then when I am playing I can adjust the tone for different sounds if required. Want more top, turn up the treble, want dub, boost the bass and cut the treble. You get the idea. What you must also beware of is that boosting the bass in particular, but also mid and treble, will significantly increase the output (most actives have 15 dB of cut and boost - thats a lot!). So if you boost the tone controls to alter your sound you must cut the volume to compensate.
11. Does it do it when you play without the amp?
12. Sorry Sarah - but what has high volume got to do with it? Surely that comes from the amp? Could it be that the bass is just hotter than the others and is overdriving the amp?
13.
Samson Airline wireless - eats batteries for fun.

Yeah,I thought that of mine too,the transmitters ok,but the receiver,to be frank needs to be plugged in. I swear Im keeping Duracell in research money.
Yes. And I did a search for the AC adapter and guess how many etailer that sell the wireless sell the AC to go with it?
14. This is a question of aesthetics? Which looks best?
15.
I spend 2 months hunting for a used HD350, eventually crack & stump up £750 for a new Fafner instead & the week after it arrives an HD appears.
£750 for a new Fafner? And you are moaning! RRP on an HD350 is more than that!
16. You have been shafted Sorry - could not resist
17. Samson Airline wireless - eats batteries for fun. When we do Mustang Sally we get a couple of ladies from the audiece to sing "ride Sally ride" and if its a tiny stage like last night I go and play the bass from in the audience - normally entertains the punters. Literally the very next song the receiver dies and I finish the song singing the bassline
18. Sorry but you are going to get 99 different answers. I use Status Hotwire Halfs and TI Jazz Flats.
19. And get a cattle prod in case the drummer hits a couple of rim-shots
20. Yes - and the EBS Neo 115 is a much larger cab than the 300 so the speaker may not be a good match for the cab.
21. most likely 2 pole. I think Gallien Kruger are the only amps that use 4 pole for GK speakers where the amps have a separate 50W amp for the tweeter.
22.
Somebody must have some ideas for a clean ,neutral / transparent amp ?
unfortunately neutral and transparent means expensive and I dont suppose your cab is gonna help as Hartke is not known for transparency. All the other stuff I was gonna suggest also comes in at £4-600 as well, like Genz Benz Shuttle or PJB briefcase or EA combo. Keep an eye of whats for sale SH.
23. ooh - sex! If only I was 20 years fitter!
24.
* Maybe someone can help me find one: It was a 1x15" combo, the amp flipped upside-down into the cab for storage, and it had a metal spike that screwed into the back so you could tilt it. Cleverest little combo I ever saw.
What Alex said; one of these:ampeg B15 - still availabe and very expensive. Cant see any available in the UK but last time I saw one listed buy an e-tailer it was about £1500.
25. I would have a word with Mr Goodfellow.
